With less than a week to go, we’re still struggling to decide on a name for baby boy #3. Older brothers are [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_u]Noah[/name_u]. Last name is similar to [name_m]Miller[/name_m]. Here are some possibilities.
[name_u]Elias[/name_u] (nn [name_m]Eli[/name_m]): I’d say this is the frontrunner. DH actually doesn’t love [name_u]Elias[/name_u], but he really likes [name_m]Eli[/name_m], so he’s down with it if he’s called [name_m]Eli[/name_m] most of the time. Any thoughts on middle names? I like [name_u]Elias[/name_u] Ames.
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]: I want to love this, but feel kind of ‘meh’ about it.
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]: An intriguing option to me, though I think I might need to see how it feels to call a baby this before I know if it’s viable. I don’t love names that end with the –er sound with our last name, but [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] doesn’t bother me as much as some others. One problem is that I really don’t like [name_m]Art[/name_m] or [name_m]Artie[/name_m]. I saw that [name_u]Ari[/name_u] was suggested as a nickname in a post from years ago, which on its own is a name I really like, so wondering about thoughts on that or other potential nicknames.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]: DH really likes potential nicknames [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. I think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is cute for a little boy, but not great for an adult, and really dislike Ted.
[name_m]Nash[/name_m]: DH isn’t super excited about this one, but seems open to it.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and any other suggestions for first (and middle) names.
[name_u]Elias[/name_u]: [name_u]Elias[/name_u] is a little on the more popular side, but that being said, having big brother [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_u]Noah[/name_u], I think this will fit right in so nicely. [name_m]Eli[/name_m] is such a cute nickname, and a name that I love myself. I love E names. I really think [name_u]Elias[/name_u] Ames is cute, as well. Again, fitting so nicely with big brothers.
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]: [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] is more a little out there in my opinion. It’s not popular like big brothers names, but it’s not too out there that it’s not recognized. Again, [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is fairly new too, so why not [name_m]Conrad[/name_m]. [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] Ames still sounds good to me.
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]: [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is a family name for my DH’s family, so I love it for that. I think [name_m]Artie[/name_m] is super cute, but i’ve gotten so used to hearing it lately, from a coworker. I really think it would make a cute comeback. [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] Ames isn’t the best to me, but it works. [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_u]Everett[/name_u] work really good together for sibling set.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]: I have loved [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] since Holes. [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] are such cute nicknames. I love [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] for when he is little, and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] for older/adult nn. I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] Ames is really cute too. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], [name_u]Noah[/name_u] and [name_u]Everett[/name_u], I really like that as well!
[name_m]Nash[/name_m]: [name_m]Nash[/name_m] is really cute. Idk if the double initials would bug you with [name_u]Noah[/name_u] and [name_m]Nash[/name_m], but to me they’re super cute together. [name_m]Nash[/name_m] isn’t super popular, but not super out there. I think it falls in line with [name_u]Everett[/name_u] a little bit. I really also like all three names together. [name_m]Nash[/name_m] Ames is okay, but not my favorite, if you want to use that middle name again.
[name_u]Elias[/name_u] (nn [name_m]Eli[/name_m]): [name_m]Eli[/name_m] seems to becoming very popular. It’s not really my style, but I definitely see the appeal. If this if your frontrunner, then go for it. But me personally, since you already have a little boy with a name beginning in E, I would probably search for a name that begins with a different letter.
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]: Hey, if you don’t love it, you don’t love it. Throw this one out!
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]: I can see why you’d be unsure of how this would sound on a baby, but I think it could work. It’s cute, but will definitely age well. And [name_u]Ari[/name_u] is a really sweet nickname. This one might be my favorite when it comes to all 3 names together.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]: This is my DH and I’s favorite boy name… so I’m definitely bias.
[name_m]Nash[/name_m]: Again with the same letter name. You already have [name_u]Noah[/name_u], so I would personally try to stay away from same letter name. Obviously that’s just my opinion, not like it wouldn’t work if you did go with this!
[name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is my favorite combo with [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] in close second.
[name_u]Elias[/name_u], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] & [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] are the best in my opinion. Such great names!
On [name_u]Elias[/name_u] “[name_m]Eli[/name_m]” - I love this, but if your partner’s not sold on [name_u]Elias[/name_u] you might consider [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] “[name_m]Eli[/name_m]”? I love both options!
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] is a great nickname for [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], very cool I think it’s gorgeous.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - if you’re not into [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], why not just use [name_u]Theo[/name_u]? It seems like your main problem is with Ted, and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] on an adult. [name_m]Just[/name_m] use [name_u]Theo[/name_u] instead if you like that better.
Congratulations! My favourites are [name_u]Elias[/name_u] which I have on my own list paired with [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] but I really like [name_u]Elias[/name_u] Ames too. I love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] too and like [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] for NNs [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] could be for when he is younger and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] for when he gets older. I like [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] from your list too with maybe the nickname [name_m]Art[/name_m]. As your other sons name starts with a E I don’t know if your the same but this might put my off [name_u]Elias[/name_u] quite abit as it would be E E and then N.I would be leaning towards [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. Good luck! I love your choices in names
What a great mix of names to decide from. A nice mix of new and classic. Boy number 3 is going to have a great name no matter which one you decide on.
[name_u]Elias[/name_u] - I’m with your husband on this. I love [name_m]Eli[/name_m], but not [name_u]Elias[/name_u]. I like [name_u]Elias[/name_u], but I like [name_m]Eli[/name_m] more.
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - This is one of the come back kids. I know a little [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and I think this name is adorable. It’s not just an old man name any longer. Sweet and I like the nn you mentioned - [name_u]Ari[/name_u].
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] - I think this fits nicely with your two older boys but to me this sounds like a stiff name. [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] sounds fun and [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], to me, sounds like all business. [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] reminds me of [name_u]Tyson[/name_u], and [name_u]Tyson[/name_u] has a cool nn.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - This is becoming a popular name and with good reason. It’s great with a fun nn in [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. If popularity is an issue you might want to shy away for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], but it’s great.
[name_m]Nash[/name_m] - [name_m]Nash[/name_m] is a cool name. It’s hip and fun but not weird.
Personally, I prefer [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] or [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is an ok nickname in youth, switching to [name_u]Theo[/name_u] as an adult. [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is just an all-around great name. I love the NN [name_m]Art[/name_m].
Thank you everyone for the amazing, thoughtful feedback! This has been really helpful. I think we’ve narrowed it down to [name_u]Elias[/name_u], [name_m]Eli[/name_m], or [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. DH is pushing for just [name_m]Eli[/name_m], but really likes [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] as well. The popularity factor isn’t necessarily a deal breaker for me, but I do like that [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] would be less common. Ultimately, our love for [name_u]Noah[/name_u] won out over my concerns about popularity ([name_u]Everett[/name_u] was a bit more unique back in 2011) and I could see the same happening with [name_m]Eli[/name_m].
Any suggestions for middle names to go with [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]? I should add that our other sons are [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_m]Benedict[/name_m].
