What do you think? Personally, I think it’s a fad that will die down. Most Pokemon names came from human names so really they’re just weird spelling variations, or unfamiliar names being made popular.

Pokemon has been popular since it was animated in the 90’s, so there’s probably already been children named after the characters before the recent PokeGo explosion. I really don’t find this to be any different from people naming their kids [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] or [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f], or after any other pop culture figure that’s gained fad popularity during a certain time period.
Luckily most of the names people are choosing are the relatively normal ones. Save Eevee, all the names on that list look just like regular baby names, so there’s a possibility the parents just picked it because they liked it, not because they wanted to name their kid after [name_u]Ash[/name_u] Ketchum.
It’s just like PP said, babies being named after GoT characters for example. Although their names are more wearable (I’d rather be [name_f]Daenerys[/name_f] or Cersei than Pikachu or Snorlax), it’s pretty much the same. I’d say the names in that article are the ‘safe’ ones though, no Pikachus just yet.
