Parker & Novalee combos

Me and my boyfriend (mostly me, he doesn’t really care which one) are trying to decide between [name]Parker[/name] and Novalee, and a middle name! I have decided that I want a middle name from [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name], and these are the ones I’ve tried out so far! If you have any other harry potter names suggestions, i’d be happy to hear them!

what do you think of the combos, which ones are the good and the bad?

[name]Parker[/name] [name]Hermione[/name]
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Lily[/name]
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Minerva[/name]

Novalee [name]Hermione[/name]
Novalee Alecto
Novalee Tonks
Novalee Nymphadora
Novalee [name]Arabella[/name]
Novalee [name]Minerva[/name]
Novalee [name]Rowena[/name]

[name]Parker[/name] [name]Lily[/name] is just working for me for some reason! I’m usually not big on unisex names for girls, but this combo is really pretty.

[name]Parker[/name] [name]Hermione[/name]: This is nice too, [name]Hermione[/name] is a gorgeous name.
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Lily[/name]: [name]LOVE[/name]
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Arabella[/name]: Like it, but not as much as the first two.
[name]Parker[/name] [name]Minerva[/name]: [name]Minerva[/name] is lovely, but not enough to balance [name]Parker[/name] for me.

Novalee [name]Hermione[/name]: The double ee ending doesnt sound right to me.
Novalee Alecto: Not feeling this either, sorry! It runs together weird when I say it.
Novalee Tonks: Tonks? Sorry, I’ve never read or seen [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name], so this may not be the best thread for me, haha
Novalee Nymphadora: I know Nymphadora is a saint name and I guess its in HP too, but something about a girl having nymph- in her middle name strikes me as mean.
Novalee [name]Arabella[/name]: a little overly frilled for me.
Novalee [name]Minerva[/name]: Flow is off for me…
Novalee [name]Rowena[/name]: Best of the Novalee combos for me. [name]Rowena[/name] is sweet.

I much prefer [name]Nova[/name] to Novalee. [name]Nova[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] is pretty.

I only hear Novelty when I see Novalee, and [name]Parker[/name] is all boy to me, sorry. So I would suggest other gorgeous HP names. [name]Rowena[/name], [name]Minerva[/name], [name]Hermione[/name], [name]Bellatrix[/name], [name]Andromeda[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Ginevra[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Millicent[/name], [name]Bethany[/name], [name]Cassiopeia[/name], [name]Melania[/name], [name]Ursula[/name], [name]Violetta[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Susan[/name], [name]Betty[/name], [name]Lavender[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name], [name]Greta[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Magenta[/name], [name]Apolline[/name], [name]Gabrielle[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Kendra[/name], [name]Petunia[/name], [name]Marietta[/name], [name]Elena[/name], [name]Arabella[/name], Perenelle, [name]Miranda[/name], [name]Astoria[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Wilhelmina[/name], [name]Isla[/name], [name]Olive[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Angelina[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Luna[/name], [name]Augusta[/name], [name]Artemisia[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Griselda[/name], [name]Natalie[/name], [name]Araminta[/name], [name]Galatea[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Mirabella[/name], [name]Petrova[/name], [name]Lucretia[/name], [name]Molly[/name], [name]Elsie[/name], [name]Orla[/name], [name]Rowena[/name], [name]Helena[/name], Rosmerta, [name]Ariel[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Veronica[/name], [name]Alicia[/name], [name]Pomona[/name], [name]Patricia[/name], [name]Lucinda[/name], [name]Cassandra[/name], [name]Mallory[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Septima[/name], [name]Katrina[/name], [name]Celestina[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Kelly[/name], [name]Honoria[/name], [name]Prudence[/name], [name]Verity[/name], [name]Violet[/name]

Out of these I think [name]Petrova[/name] sounds closest to [name]Parker[/name] and [name]Nova[/name].
Or just [name]Nova[/name].

Hmmmm. I’d advise against really obvious HP tributes (like Tonks) since your daughter may not love the series, or at least being named after it, as you do. I think something subtle is in order here.

From your list, I think [name]Parker[/name] [name]Lily[/name] and [name]Parker[/name] [name]Arabella[/name] are the best combinations–something that does have that HP reference, but in a liveable way, since your daughter would presumably go through 80+ years of life with the name. For the HP reference, I prefer [name]Parker[/name] [name]Lily[/name], since [name]Lily[/name] is a heroic character and [name]Arabella[/name] was a minor character / squib.

As far as all the HP names on your list go, I think [name]Hermione[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Arabella[/name], and [name]Rowena[/name] are the most useable of them; [name]Hermione[/name] and [name]Lily[/name] were admirable characters as well, which is not as true of [name]Arabella[/name] or [name]Rowena[/name]. (They were not bad, but neither were they particularly heroic.) [name]Hermione[/name] is a very obvious tribute name–the kind of name where a child would be asked repeatedly whether she was named after the character–while [name]Lily[/name] is more subtle… thus, I prefer [name]Lily[/name].

[name]Minerva[/name], Alecto, and Tonks are too harsh-sounding–Tonks was her last name in the books, I think–and Nymphadora will unavoidably get nymphomaniac jokes for the rest of her life… there is a reason these names are only in books and, at that, a fantasy series.

FYI, Novalee is the name of a character in “Where the Heart Is”–a teenage girl who gets pregnant and abandoned in rural Oklahoma, gives birth in a Wal-Mart, but overcomes everything in the end–and I’ve never heard it anywhere else, so that is my main association with the name. I’m not sure if you chose it for this reference, but since it’s a movie that plays on cable semi-regularly and an unusual name, I think a lot of people will have that association as well. (Also, the reason the author chose Novalee for the character was to emphasize her rural/uneducated background; it was a name that was supposed to sound like she was born in a Kentucky trailer park, which was the character’s background. Authors have the luxury of picking names to deliberately evoke those images, without worrying about the effect it might have on a real person, which is what both Billie Letts, the author of that book, and J.K. Rowling did.) I’m not necessarily against the name Novalee, and she was certainly a sweet and likeable character, but I think you should know what will occur to other people when they hear it.

Thanks for all the help so far.
Considering - novalee isn’t from “where the heart is”. I had never even heard of that book before posting about the name here. i’m not a big reader, but i think I either have to read that book or find out more about it before using novalee. Was Novalee the mother or child?? i’m going to be a young mum, and i don’t want to make it extra hard for my child by using a name that screams trailer park, but I rally love novalee and parker…

I prefer Novalee to [name]Parker[/name], but there are many female HP names you can use as a MN, but I’ll choose some characters that aren’t too popular/ So here are a few suggestions;

Novalee [name]Lavender[/name]
Novalee [name]Ariana[/name]
Novalee [name]Alice[/name]
Novalee [name]Daphne[/name]
Novalee [name]Poppy[/name]
Novalee [name]Molly[/name]
Novalee [name]Rowena[/name]
Novalee [name]Fleur[/name]
Novalee [name]Rose[/name]
Novalee [name]Victoire[/name]
Novalee [name]Katie[/name]
Novalee [name]Hannah[/name]
Novalee [name]Gabrielle[/name]
Novalee [name]Marietta[/name]

I hope these help, and good luck!

Novalee is very trendy in my country ([name]Sweden[/name]), with a lot of spelling variations, the most common one is probably Novalie (like [name]Nathalie[/name]). [name]Do[/name] you like it? Maybe it would remove any connotations to the book? I like [name]Parker[/name] [name]Lily[/name] even though [name]Parker[/name] isn’t my style. I like @bethlow’s suggestion of Novalee [name]Fleur[/name], very pretty! I also like Novalee [name]Arabella[/name] and Novalee [name]Minerva[/name]. Good luck!

Novalee was the mother’s name. [name]Americus[/name] was the daughter’s name. I think it is pretty, and maybe some people will link it back to the movie. Novalee was a nice person in the book, she is a good namesake. She made bad decisions but was able to pull through. (I read the book a few years ago) I say keep with the more simple harry potter names like lily, luna, lavender, daphne, hannah and some others like other posters have said. [name]Hermione[/name] was an admirable character but right now it is too much for a little girl. [name]Parker[/name] is okay, but it isn’t my style.
And don’t use nymphadora, in the book she hated her name and went by tonks.

My favorite names from harry potter:
[name]Cassandra[/name]
[name]Millicent[/name]
[name]Rowena[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Sybill[/name]
[name]Romilda[/name] (probably won’t work though)
[name]Rita[/name] (she was annoying but pretty name)

Congratulations on your daughter!

If you want a very honest opinion, I don’t care for either of these names. [name]Parker[/name] is all boy to me, and Novalee does sound a little down-market. [name]Piper[/name] and [name]Harper[/name] aren’t my style, but they are similar to [name]Parker[/name] and much more feminine.

[name]Piper[/name] [name]Lily[/name]
[name]Piper[/name] [name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Harper[/name] [name]Lily[/name]
[name]Harper[/name] [name]Arabella[/name]

What do you think? Good luck!

Novalee Nation was the mother; [name]Americus[/name] Nation was her daughter. In the movie, Novalee was played by [name]Natalie[/name] Portman and, really, she was quite a sweet and sympathetic character who overcame a lot, became a good mother, and got a happy ending. Watch the movie if you have time; it’s heartwarming. I do think the names in the book were chosen for their “rural” sound though. (Novalee names her daughter [name]Americus[/name] because she wants “a strong name”; her ex-boyfriend and the father is [name]Willie[/name] [name]Jack[/name] Pickens; and there’s another character, played by [name]Ashley[/name] [name]Judd[/name], who names all five of her children after desserts–Brownie, Praline, etc. The author was definitely having fun with names!)

I don’t think Novalee is a bad choice–it’s not my style, but it has a pretty sound–I just think you might want to see the movie before you pick it. I do like some of the other poster’s suggestions of [name]Nova[/name] or Novalie. For some reason, -lie seems more elegant than -lee to me. No idea why! Also, if you like Novalee, [name]Natalie[/name] has a very similar sound.

Much prefer Novalee to [name]Parker[/name] as it reminds me of a boy.

For middle names I would suggest more unique & rare names.

I don’t like [name]Parker[/name] for a girl. (I don’t like it for a boy either, but it’s even worse on a girl)

Novalee is very cute

Also, I’m a huge HP nerd so I can understand wanting that connection.

From your list I like Novalee [name]Rowena[/name] the best, but Novalee [name]Minerva[/name] is also great.

I enjoyed that way too much. And there are hundreds more, those are just the ones I liked!
