I agree with you, your husband and his friends have clearly lost their minds and not thinking about how a person has to wear a name thats hard to spell and pronounce and is just plain made up.
You could meet him half way with a real name- [name_u]Zion[/name_u] pronounced " Zy-on"
Whats bad about this name is its a made up word and spelling- it sort of breaks all of my name rules.
I definitely think Xynon should be scrapped in favor of a compromise name. He seems to like it because it sounds cool and because it’s unique, so I think finding a unique name with similar sounds that you can both get on board with is a good place to start.
Seconding (thirding?) the suggestions of [name_m]Zorion[/name_m], [name_m]Xander[/name_m]/[name_m]Zander[/name_m], and [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u].
Also:
[name_u]Zion[/name_u] - are you religious/spiritual at all? this one has a very deep meaning in addition to being a cool place name
[name_m]Zafar[/name_m] - egdy and exotic
[name_m]Zahn[/name_m] - very sci-fi, as [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] [name_m]Zahn[/name_m] was the author of many [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars novels
Zenith - means the highest point, plus has the cool nickname [name_u]Zen[/name_u]
[name_m]Zephaniah[/name_m] - or the short version, Zephan, if he likes a sleeker vibe
[name_m]Zane[/name_m] - another author name, this one does [name_m]Wild[/name_m] [name_u]West[/name_u] novels
[name_m]Zebulon[/name_m] - Biblical name, also [name_m]Zebulon[/name_m] [name_m]Pike[/name_m] of [name_m]Pike[/name_m]'s [name_m]Peak[/name_m]
[name_m]Xanthos[/name_m] - another name for [name_m]Apollo[/name_m], the sun god
[name_m]Xerxes[/name_m] - ancient Persian name meaning “hero of heroes”
Or if it’s the edgy sci-fi feeling that he likes, what about:
Stark - from Farscape…and Iron [name_m]Man[/name_m]!
[name_u]Korben[/name_u] (or [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] / [name_u]Corban[/name_u]) - main character of the kookily awesome movie Fifth Element
Riddick - since you once liked [name_m]Ryker[/name_m]. [name_m]Vin[/name_m] [name_m]Diesel[/name_m], anyone?
[name_u]Dash[/name_u] - smuggler in [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars, could also be a nickname for the increasingly popular [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]
Ender - from the [name_m]Orson[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] [name_m]Card[/name_m] series which will soon be a movie
Deckard - main character of [name_m]Blade[/name_m] Runner
[name_u]Cloud[/name_u] - Final [name_f]Fantasy[/name_f]…you could also do Sephiroth if you’re feeling brave! I think a little Seph would be strangely swoonworthy
Elric - [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_m]Alphonse[/name_m], from Full Metal Alchemist
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m] - from the DragonAge video games. Not exactly sci-fi, but still “cool”
Lestat - again not exactly sci-fi, but pretty hardcore
Riku - from Kingdom Hearts. Also contains [name_m]Axel[/name_m] and Ansem.
[name_m]Dante[/name_m] - from Devil [name_f]May[/name_f] Cry (and the [name_f]Divine[/name_f] Comedy of course)
Arronax - Professor from a [name_u]Jules[/name_u] [name_u]Verne[/name_u] classic, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Also includes [name_m]Nemo[/name_m], the fabulously enigmatic captain
Vash - as in Vash the Stampede from Trigun
[name_m]Azriel[/name_m] - Powerful, ambitious character in His Dark Materials who wants to re-engineer the Garden of [name_u]Eden[/name_u] to prevent original sin
[name_m]Roland[/name_m] - the gunslinger from [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] [name_m]King[/name_m]'s infamous Dark [name_m]Tower[/name_m] novels
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m] - if husband is an X-Men fan, you can’t go wrong with this nod to Magneto, whose full name is apparently [name_m]Erik[/name_m] [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] Lensherr. And while we’re on the topic, [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] could be a good option too.
[name_u]Constantine[/name_u] - Although the historical reference is cool, this one is for the demon-hunter
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps somewhat! Let us know what you guys end up choosing! (And I have to admit, I’m praying it’s not Xynon)
Xynon is terrible. If I met a Xynon, I would be seriously judging his parents. I’m not really a fan of any of the names on your list, but they’re all wayyy better than Xynon (save Xevon…)
Maybe try [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]?
Xynon is terrible. I think it’s ridiculous for one partner to push a name the other partner hates. You both need to agree. You’re both going to have to find some middle ground. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Ryder[/name_m]?
@sleepysessha i love some of your suggestions! might have a look at your suggestions myself- its a very rare day to get me excited about boy names- must have been looking in the wrong place
Put your foot down, you couldn’t allow your baby to be named Xynon, it would be cruel to do that and his friends sound very immature if they are egging him on.
[name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_m]Zane[/name_m] are very nice.
Haha I know where you are coming from! My partner would probably love that name if I suggested it, he seems to be obsessed with [name_u]Blaize[/name_u] at the moment…God help me. When I first saw the name I said it in my head as ZY [name_f]NON[/name_f] like you later said it should be said so I don’t think that would be much of a problem especially since there are a lot of [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]'s and the like roaming around…well in Australia there are anyway. My name is [name_f]Darlene[/name_f] and it’s practically unheard of here so I always get questions on it and asked to repeat it, sometimes it’s a pain in the butt but my mum still loves the name and so does my partner so I guess it just grows on the kid. To be honest I don’t actually think it is that bad of a name and I do like some of the alternative names you suggested…also I think it’s a great idea to use it as a middle name if the Mr will put up with it lol. My boyfriend also loves all the ‘Z’ sounding names and thus far he likes the sound of [name_u]Seth[/name_u], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] ([name_m]Zeke[/name_m]), [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] and [name_m]Zephaniah[/name_m] (Zeph for short) and I think they are all okay so see what your man thinks about them lol. The other suggested names are nice too! Good luck!!
[name_u]Zion[/name_u] might be a good compromise if you like the name as well. It a place name in the Matrix series if your partner is looking for a Sci-fi connection to the name. Good luck!
Xynon is pretty horrible. It sounds like a pharmaceutical drug. Try to get him on board with [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]. It is not too popular because everyone (like 90% of English speaking people) use the pronunciation (eg-ZAY-vyer), but (ZAV-ee-air) and (ZAY-vyer) are every bit as, if not more so, legitimate. Besides that, it’s a wonderful, manly, and human name. Not from planet Gyrvox or something : )
I try not to be negative regarding people name choices…but since you don’t like it…I’m going to be on your side and say Xynon is awful. Definitely put your foot down on this.
I would be tempted to tell him that when he carries and births a son by himself, he can name him Xynon. Until that day, you both need to agree!
I agree with some of the other posters, [name_u]Zion[/name_u] might be a good compromise, if you like it. You also might set him down with a baby name book and tell him to make a list. There are plenty of unique names out there that are actually wearable and that you both may like. I would tell him that Xynon is absolutely off the table.
I hate to laugh at your situation, but it is so similar to my husband loving [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] nn [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] and [name_m]Uriah[/name_m] of all names (this reminds me of urine/urinal - yeah, ew). All the while I’m at the other end of the spectrum with the soft sounds, i.e., [name_u]Corban[/name_u]/[name_u]Corbin[/name_u], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]/[name_m]Tobiah[/name_m], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]… and reading other comments, it must just be one of those “guy things”.
But, never fear! You’ve come for help! And there is much inspiration here! I don’t have any suggestions of my own, but my favorite for you would definitely be [name_m]Xander[/name_m], then Zephan, [name_m]Zafar[/name_m], and [name_m]Zahn[/name_m] (like [name_m]John[/name_m], only much cooler!).
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] your man will stop thinking only of himself at this precious time with you and baby - a baby who is a person and should be respected as one. Tell him to stop trying to be cooler than his guy friends and grow up; that’s not what life is all about. You certainly have a right to stand up and be the mother you know you should be to your son. Kudos for doing just that. Let him see that baby’s face and reality will hit him hard. And if you absolutely go with the Xerox name, a couple years down the road, he’ll be tired of explaining it and pronouncing it and genuinely lovin’ [name_m]Ryker[/name_m] all over again- I guarantee it (guys always go back to names they love and then “hate”).
P.S. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t go with [name_m]Damien[/name_m] - it’s always like the go-to name around where I live.
I’ve known men named Zalman, Zenon, Zoltan and Zombor. They sound like real names to me. They sound very eastern european–all these dudes were from eastern/central europe–but real. Any of those would be preferable to Xynon.
