I was browsing through mid-century names, and [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] ranked in the top 100 quite a few times! I’ve taken a recent liking to [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] (its datedness doesn’t bother me, it’ll be hip in 20-30 years), but I’m not a fan of [name_f]Patty[/name_f] or [name_f]Trish[/name_f]. However, this nickname is spunky, almost never heard nowadays, and still easy to pronounce/spell.
I have an aunt with this name whose probably in her late 50s . She goes by [name_f]Tricia[/name_f] (tree-sha) which I think I prefer. One other great aunt (probably late 70s) who goes by [name_u]Pat[/name_u] which I kind of like for a little girl. Meanwhile I know two more Patricias who are closer to my age by a couple decades and both go by [name_f]Tricia[/name_f] ([name_f]Trisha[/name_f]). [name_u]Haven[/name_u]’t met any little ones with the name so I think you’re right that it could turn around and make a comeback.
That being said, I think nn [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] makes the name seem even older than I picture it (between my two aunts’ ages). And patsy itself is not a great word so I would probably not use it as the primary nickname ([name_u]Pat[/name_u] being occasionally called [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] in childhood might be fine I think).
I believe [name_u]George[/name_u] [name_m]Washington[/name_m]’s stepdaughter [name_f]Martha[/name_f] was called [name_u]Patsy[/name_u], so that was the first thing that came to mind. Honestly, though, I personally am just not a fan of the sound, and it feels very frumpy to me. But who knows? Maybe it will feel fresh and cute in 20 years or so!
I like [name_u]Patsy[/name_u]. Have you considered [name_u]Patrice[/name_u] as a full name? Seems a little fresher, but I don’t mind [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] at all!
I have an aunt [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] (that is her full name). I do like [name_u]Patrice[/name_u] but not [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]. A friend whose name is [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] goes by [name_f]Trish[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] aunt would be in her late 80’s, so it is a vintage name as far as I am concerned. I do like [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] as a name. I have occasionally heard of [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] as a boys name nn for [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] mainly in books. So the name seems to have an interesting history.
Neither [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] or [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] are quite my style, but this is actually really fun & unexpected. I definitely think that [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] is nicer than [name_u]Pat[/name_u], [name_f]Patty[/name_f] or [name_f]Trish[/name_f]. What do you think of [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tess[/name_f]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] nn [name_u]Pip[/name_u]? They’re both stretches, but other cuter ideas.
[name_u]Patsy[/name_u] is really sweet! [name_u]Tris[/name_u] is also another nickname that works.
I feel like I need to add that I sometimes read [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] as pasty.
My grandmother’s name is [name_f]Patricia[/name_f], called [name_u]Patsy[/name_u] when she was a little girl (now goes by [name_u]Pat[/name_u]). I actually kind of like it. It’s not a name I would use personally, but I would love to meet a little girl with this as her name!
My middle name is [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]. I hate it lol. [name_f]My[/name_f] boyfriend calls me patty mayonnaise. I tho j the nick name trish is AWFUL. But I know a girl name patsy and she’s so cool and I love that nickname. I would just use patsy and skip [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] all together
