Pearl to honor a Margaret... does it work?

I’d love to use [name]Margaret[/name] as a mn to honor my husband’s grandmother. I’d prefer to use the actual name itself as I’ve always though using nicknames (like [name]Meg[/name], [name]Mae[/name], or [name]Margo[/name]) that the honoree never actually went by is kind of a weaker way of honoring them. Problem is [name]Margaret[/name] doesn’t go perfectly with all of our choices. The meaning of [name]Margaret[/name] is [name]Pearl[/name], so I thought using [name]Pearl[/name] as the middle name could maybe work… or do you think that’s also drifting too far from the name itself?

Examples:
[name]Darcy[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] works better than [name]Darcy[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]

[name]Summer[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] works better than [name]Summer[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]

(These aren’t necessarily top names, but ones we’ve always liked). Many more on our list share the [name]Margaret[/name] problem!

[name]Pearl[/name] would be a fabulous way to honor [name]Margaret[/name]. It isn’t a stretch at all. [name]Pearl[/name] is so beautiful, great choice!

Most people probably will not see the connection and you will have to tell them. But does it matter if other people see the connection if YOU are the one honoring the person? I personally like [name]Pearly[/name] better than [name]Margaret[/name]. I am different however that I think using a variation of the name is better than using the name itself. My son is [name]Liam[/name] in honor of my dad who is [name]William[/name]. My son has his own identity but my dad knows it was to honor him so best of both worlds.

I like it! I would warn you away from a noun first name though; [name]Summer[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] sounds a bit silly. I like [name]Summer[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] better.

If you relate it to her than you’re honoring her & it works. It isn’t something that people would “get” upon hearing the middle, for that [name]Margot[/name] might work better. I think using the name itself is the only way to go if you want everyone to make the connection otherwise just use what honors her in your heart

[name]Pearl[/name] is a perfectly fine way to honor [name]Margaret[/name]. I think [name]Darcy[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] would be lovely!

I think [name]Pearl[/name] is a great way to honor a [name]Margaret[/name]! I love [name]Darcy[/name] [name]Pearl[/name].

If I honour my grandmother [name]Margaret[/name], I will likely use [name]Pearl[/name] instead, so definitely go for it!

I didn’t get the connection before you said it, but I think it’s a good way to honor a [name]Margaret[/name]. Although I actually think [name]Darcy[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] sounds decent, [name]Darcy[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is [name]DIVINE[/name]. I love seeing [name]Darcy[/name] used for girls, as it’s on my list, but people always tell me that it’s only for boys.

I think it depends on the situation. If [name]Margaret[/name] has passed and you are doing it to remind yourself then [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Greta[/name] , [name]Margot[/name], even [name]Megan[/name] are a great choice. If [name]Margaret[/name] is still alive and you want to make her happy my giving her a namesake it may still work especially if [name]Margaret[/name] has known that her name means pearl and likes the association. If [name]Margaret[/name] is alive and does not know the meaning of her name, she may not feel so honored.

what a nice way to honor [name]Margaret[/name]! But honestly i don’t like [name]Pearl[/name]. i love [name]Margot[/name]. i think [name]Margot[/name] is also one of the good ways to honor her. you know, it was a NM of [name]Margeret[/name].

Yes it does.

I would consider naming a daughter [name]Pearl[/name] after myself!
