I have a love/hate relationship right now with [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. I love the gemstone association (hello, [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and Opal!), I think it has a fairly pleasant sound, and I like the short, sweet “bounce” I feel when I say it. It also seems not really popular, but not so far out, either.
But…my partner grew up with parents who watched “The [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] Hillbillies”. And there was a character named [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] who was, shall we say, clearly delusional about her appeal. Frumpy, dumpy, yodeling, in frilly, ugly dresses, man crazy, ignorant…ugh. And every time I mention [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], he twangs some ignorant “Pearl [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] Pearl” song and I get so frustrated.
So is there any way to salvage [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] with my partner, or is she doomed to live in my heart only?
Oh wow, I think of Pearl in a completely different way! I went to school with a girl names Pearl for years. She was so compact, focused, quiet, and studious. She wore quaint glasses and she always arrived early for calculus. Her clothes weren’t fancy, but they were always tidy and practical.
I’m not sure this story will help, but I think if Pearl as being much more refined! Intelligent and quaint. Quiet and bold.
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is such a gorgeous name -elegant, bright and sweet
Maybe have a conversation with your husband about how much you like the name - ask him of he could look beyond the association? Let him know that it is one you’d possibly like to consider, so perhaps he could take it more seriously
I absolutely love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] and do not have any associations aside from pearls. [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is such a beautiful elegant name it’s lovely and such a shame your partner has a negative association.
I think maybe have a conversation to see if he can move past the association but sometimes associations are so strong we can’t move past them. If this is the case for him then I would choose another name.
I absolutely love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]! It’s one of my favorite girl names. It has such a beautiful sound to it. Like you said, it fits right in there with [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Opal[/name_f] without being overused. It’s short and sweet while still being classic and timeless.
I don’t know the [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] Hillbillies show or association so that doesn’t come to mind at all. I would hope that he would start to associate it more with your little baby instead of the show as you use it more and more frequently.
Well you could switch the name to [name_f]Pearla[/name_f] or [name_u]Pearlie[/name_u], [name_f]Perlita[/name_f] or Perele
[name_u]Or[/name_u] you can do a variation on [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_f]Margalit[/name_f] is ranking higher with me lately.
This post is from long ago but for those joining later [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] was a character in [name_m]Little[/name_m] Fires Everywhere and she was lovely
