Pelopia - yes/no?

I have always loved the name Pelopia. I would love to use it but in Greek mythology (it’s origin) Pelopia has a very tragic and traumatic existence which is quite a turn off.

Whilst it sounds similar to [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], I still much prefer Pelopia - possibly [name_f]Pia[/name_f] as a nn.

Would like some opinions whether you think this name is actually usuable for a girl or best left as a guilty pleasure.

I think it may raise a few eyebrows but if you’re worried about the background I wouldn’t do it.

Some other name ideas similar sounding
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]
Xanthippe

Penninah- means precious stone.
[name_f]Parthenia[/name_f]
[name_u]Praxis[/name_u]
[name_f]Pallas[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

I have nothing against “out there” names, but I don’t personally like this one. I find it a little harsh sounding and unflattering (never like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] either, if that’s any consolation)… Sorry

I’d have to say no. It reminds me of tilapia. [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] or [name_f]Pelagia[/name_f] maybe?

I have never heard of Pelopia, so I’d assume the background would not be a problem. The problem would probably be the unflattering sound of the name. Honestly, if you love it, then you can definitely use it. I would recommend going with something like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] or [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], though.

Thank you for the feedback - I appreciate it all. I’m not a huge fan of really ‘out there’ names on children but I still like Pelopia and might hang onto it for a future pet of some kind maybe.

I’ve never heard this name before, but I have to say I dislike the sound of Pelopia–I agree that it sounds like tilapia or reminds me of a disease name.

Sorry, I’m also not a fan of it. But I do very much like [name_f]Pia[/name_f], all on it’s own.

I think it’s usable. In terms of the myth, yes, it’s tragic, but it’s hard to find one that isn’t. I don’t think it’s very well known either, so it wouldn’t be a huge problem. It has quite a pleasant sound (far, far better than [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], which I find very unattractive), it’s fun to say.

[name_f]Pia[/name_f] is beautiful so I would just use that as the full name.
