Hey, so my name is [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], but I don’t want to use that as an author both because of the already super-popular [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] Stiefvater and because I’ve always thought my name felt too cutesy and immature. I’d like to keep using my last name, which is two syllables and starts with an M (sorry, I’m not comfortable telling you the whole thing), if I can. I was considering using something like [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], where [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] could be a nickname, but I’m also open to using a completely different name if you all think that would be a better idea. Thank you all for your help!
Is [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] your full name? If not, I’m sure your full name is totally fine. And if it is, you could always go for a further nickname of that that feels more mature: [name_f]Meg[/name_f], [name_f]Mag[/name_f]…or something like other nicknames for names like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (the most common name that [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] would be a nickname for, I think) like [name_f]Peggy[/name_f], [name_f]Peg[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Marge[/name_f], [name_f]Madge[/name_f]…
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] is pretty! Other than my ideas, I would say try to find a name that has some meaning to you (maybe a family member’s name, like a grandma or an aunt, or your middle name! or just a name you’ve always loved and wished you could have, or a favorite character from your favorite story growing up, orrrr something with a meaning that says a lot about you?). Anyway, I wish you luck in finding a name and in your writing!
I totally understand pen names and all that, but I also wanted to add that just because one author is getting really popular, it doesn’t mean their name is off limits. It is your name too. :3 But hey, no shame no judgements, thought I’d put my two cents in. <3 Hope I helped!
I think [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] M— is a good option because you could continue to be called [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and wouldn’t have to get used to a completely new name. I also like the suggestion of [name_f]Meg[/name_f]. But, there’s nothing wrong with [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], either!
I also think [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] M could work and you could do [name_f]Meg[/name_f] as a nn.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]!
Others could be:
[name_f]Margaery[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]
[name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]
Yep, go with [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
