Penelope - Penny

I have really grown in love with the name [name]Penelope[/name], especially with the NN [name]Penny[/name]. So I have some questions for you berries

  1. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Penelope[/name] is a better choice with NN [name]Penny[/name] or just [name]Penny[/name] by itself?

2)Would she get teasing because of the movie [name]Penelope[/name] about the girl with the pig nose?

3)Does it fit with my other girls names?

  1. What do you picture a [name]Penelope[/name]/[name]Penny[/name] to be (ie looks, career, would her name hold her back)

  2. What would you pair it with?

Thanks

I think [name]Penelope[/name] nn [name]Penny[/name] is much better than just [name]Penny[/name], personally. [name]Penny[/name] has always seemed really cutesy to me, and I would much prefer having the fuller [name]Penelope[/name] to fall back on, mainly because all its other nns are so appealing to me–particularly [name]Poppy[/name] and [name]Lola[/name], but [name]Nell[/name], [name]Ella[/name]/[name]Elle[/name], [name]Pippa[/name], [name]Posey[/name], etc., could all be options.

I never even heard of the movie, haha, but I’m not a movie person, so I couldn’t say if she would get teased, but I would doubt it. I would associate it to The Odyssey’s [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Cruz[/name], and LOST’s [name]Penelope[/name] before I would even think of a girl with a pig nose.

It definitely fits in with your list. I immediately assume she would be like LOST’s [name]Penelope[/name]–elegant, a bit regal, pretty, kind, good, lovely, who cares more about the people she loves than the money her dad has, with a lovely, lilting British accent. At least, I think it was a British accent, lol. It’s been a while since I saw that show. I can see her going into business or literature/book publishing, for some reason.

I have seriously considered [name]Leila[/name] [name]Penelope[/name]/[name]Leila[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Skye[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Kate[/name] in the past, so those are my first thoughts, along with [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Jane[/name], since I know someone with a daughter by that name.

I love the name [name]Penny[/name] but I think [name]Penelope[/name] with its four syllables sounds a little too much to me. It makes sense for a princess or an heiress, but for your average girl I think its a little over the top.

  1. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Penelope[/name] is a better choice with NN [name]Penny[/name] or just [name]Penny[/name] by itself?
I think [name]Penelope[/name] nn [name]Penny[/name] is the better choice because it will give her more options. She might like having a more serious/longer name on paper and who knows, maybe as an adult will want to go by the full name.
2)Would she get teasing because of the movie [name]Penelope[/name] about the girl with the pig nose?
I don’t think this movie was popular enough and I doubt it will be a classic anyone will remember years from now. Plus no kids in her class would see it until maybe high school if at all.
3)Does it fit with my other girls names?
I think it goes w your girl list- most of them are longer names w cute nn options and not too popular, but nothing crazy either
  2. What do you picture a [name]Penelope[/name]/[name]Penny[/name] to be (ie looks, career, would her name hold her back)
When I imagine a [name]Penelope[/name] I think the name is pretty neutral because it’s kind of hard to have a really clear image. For some reason I picture someone who is college age and artistic with light brown hair- no idea why! I’ve never known a [name]Penelope[/name].
  3. What would you pair it with?
    [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Jane[/name], [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Jean[/name], [name]Penelope[/name] [name]May[/name], [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Jude[/name], I feel like I’m gravitating towards shorter and simpler names for [name]Penelope[/name]. If you go for just [name]Penny[/name] I would probably go for something longer and flowerier like [name]Penny[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] or [name]Penny[/name] [name]Wilhelmina[/name].

I dont care for [name]Penelope[/name] (I think Im in the minority) but the name and nn [name]Penny[/name] and [name]Poppy[/name] dont evoke a very attractive girl to me even though [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Cruz[/name] is quite beautiful. I imagine [name]Penelope[/name] from Criminal Minds when I try and think of a real life [name]Penelope[/name]. I like her character, I can see a [name]Penelope[/name] being smart and kind but something about it seems dorky, ditzy and awkward instead of quirky, cute and confident. It also feels a bit trendy in a nameberry way (if that makes sense) like a flash in the pan type popular name.

I would pair it with something simple or considered classically beautiful if I were going to use it in case my daughter didnt like it.

Oh I hate to be the bad guy but I think [name]Penny[/name] is really unfortunate! I really don’t like it on a human baby (I once named my cat [name]Penny[/name], when I was 6). That said, I only half like [name]Penelope[/name] (prefer [name]Persephone[/name]); but I looove all the fun names that come from [name]Penelope[/name] so that actually makes me like it more. NNs: [name]Lola[/name], [name]Nola[/name], [name]Penn[/name] (love it), [name]Nellie[/name], etc. It’s rare to have a name with so many nn’s so that makes [name]Penelope[/name] a real gem.

I love [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Penny[/name], other [name]Penelope[/name] nicknames and the movie [name]Penelope[/name]. It’s a fantastic choice!

[name]Penelope[/name] is adorable. It’s no longer a top favorite of mine, but I still really like it. I also like most of the nicknames: [name]Penny[/name], [name]Poppy[/name], [name]Nell[/name]

  1. Definitely go with [name]Penelope[/name]. [name]Penny[/name] is cute and friendly, [name]Penelope[/name] is more sophisticated and would presumably work on any woman.
  2. If she gets teased, I doubt it will be a lingering thing. She probably won’t, though. [name]Penelope[/name] wasn’t that big of a movie.
  3. I think it fits in pretty well with your girls list. Your boys list is a bit more eclectic, though.
  4. I kind of picture someone with this name as having a job/career that would put them in general contact with the public, as well as being someone that people would look up to, like a teacher or even the wife of a famous politician.
  5. I would probably go with something fairly simple, like [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Jane[/name].

Thanks everyone! I am glad that most everyone likes [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Penny[/name]. I agree that I should go with [name]Penelope[/name] NN [name]Penny[/name] The movie has always been the first thing I thought of when I heard the name [name]Penelope[/name], but now that image is fading for me

@ashthedreamer - that really makes me laugh that I have fallen for yet another LOST name without every watching that show, I guess I should have Lol

@annie85 - I don’t care if my boys and girls list match that much as long as the girls’ names match the girls’ names and the boys’ names match the boy’s names. I would not want one sister to be jealous of her other sister’s name, but I doubt any of my boys, would be jealous that their name is not [name]Penelope[/name].
