Penelope - Too much?

My husband totally threw me yesterday when he suggested [name]Penelope[/name] for our baby girl. He normally likes names I consider plain so this was very unexpected. I have never given much thought to it but kind-of like it. I like the nickname possibilites of [name]Poppy[/name] and [name]Pippa[/name]. I’m just wondering if it’s too much name for a little girl. We were thinking [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Kate[/name]. Thoughts?

I think it’s lovely. [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Kate[/name] is a great name.

Not too much at all! I love [name]Penelope[/name]. It’s in my top three names for the future, and [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Kate[/name] is darling. nn [name]Poppy[/name] is super cute. I also really like nn [name]Nell[/name] and [name]Nellie[/name]. I’m undecided about the nn [name]Penny[/name], but that one is cute too.

I love the name [name]Penelope[/name], and [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Kate[/name] is fantastic! It’s a great combo

I dont think it’s too much but personally I think [name]Penelope[/name] sounds flighty

I think [name]Penelope[/name] is beautiful! My mother was nearly named [name]Penelope[/name] {she was named [name]Heather[/name] instead}, and I love it! [name]Poppy[/name] and [name]Pippa[/name] are lovely nicknames

[name]Penelope[/name] seems to be coming back! My husband even likes it, and the only other names he likes are [name]Emily[/name] and [name]Kathleen[/name], so go figure! A friend of mine named her baby [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Anne[/name] in [name]November[/name]. I think [name]Penelope[/name] is adorable, though I have seen some negative reactions to it. I’m not sure why, although I do think that as it becomes more familiar, move people will like it. Cute nn possibilities, though my friend calls her [name]Penelope[/name] by her full name!

I really like it. And [name]Poppy[/name] is adorable!

[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Kate[/name] is a gorgeous name, and I agree that [name]Poppy[/name] and [name]Pippa[/name] are cute nicknames. However, I love the idea of [name]Nelle[/name]/[name]Nellie[/name], [name]Penny[/name] and [name]Lola[/name] as nicknames too, either way you have some gorgeous options that would suit any type of girl.

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Kate[/name]! And your nickname choices are the cutest!

I love [name]Penelope[/name]. I know a [name]Penelope[/name] and her nick name is [name]Lola[/name]

Great name, not too much at all!

I think it’s a great name. My husband surprised me when he said he liked this name too. We considered using it as a first name for our 4th daughter, but I decided that I didn’t like how it sounds with our last name.

Definitely not too much. [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Kate[/name] is great, but I like the nn [name]Penny[/name].

I don’t love [name]Penelope[/name]–it actually seems a bit bland to me as a FN–but I adore its nicknames! [name]Pippa[/name] and [name]Poppy[/name] are just adorable. I also like [name]Pepper[/name], [name]Lola[/name], [name]Ella[/name], and even [name]Nell[/name]. [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Kate[/name] is really cute!

My 7 year old is [name]Penelope[/name] “[name]Penny[/name]” - I definitely don’t think it is TOO much of a name, but she does go by her nickname almost 90% of the time. I have tried my best to use my girls full names because I don’t wan them to feel like they can’t transition to their “full name” someday if they choose. I have known people this happened to before-- they became an adult and their nickname “[name]Jenny[/name]” let’s say just stuck… they had trouble calling themselves [name]Jennifer[/name] even though they kinda desired to be a little more formal as they grew older. [name]Penelope[/name] is just so long though that I do lean on her nn often. She loves her name though (I’ve asked her!) and she does introduce herself as [name]Penelope[/name].

I find the name is gaining alot of popularity, but rarely anyone (at least here on NB) says they will use [name]Penny[/name] as a nn, so that makes me feel better!

[name]Penelope[/name] if fine on a little girl and she can surely grow into it! I also like to think [name]Penny[/name] would make a good nn.
