[name]Do[/name] you guys think [name]Penelope[/name] will become super duper popular now that [name]Kourtney[/name] K. named her new daughter that? It was a possibility for us but now there is just no way. Not in the same year anyway.
It was already rising in the charts. I’m sure it will get a bit of a boost but it didn’t skyrocket when [name]Tina[/name] [name]Fey[/name] used it.
hmmm…I’m not sure. [name]Mason[/name] is super popular but it already was. [name]Penelope[/name] might take a little longer to take off. I think you’ll be ok to use it!
[name]Even[/name] before [name]Tina[/name] [name]Fey[/name] used it I think it was gaining speed. This name reminds me of [name]Olivia[/name] stylistically.
I think it stands out because it has so many nicknames with so many different vibes.
I can see it making a nice jump.
[name]Penelope[/name] was 169 in 2010.
I don’t think it’ll be top 10 material, but I can see it reaching as far as top 50. Especially if they nickname her [name]Nell[/name]/[name]Nelly[/name]/[name]Lolo[/name]/[name]Lola[/name].
I wouldn’t use it. I liked [name]Harper[/name] but took it off my list as soon as the Beckhams used it. [name]Kourtney[/name] has great taste in names. I like [name]Mason[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name]. [name]Glad[/name] she didn’t stick to the Ks like her mother did, [name]Kourtney[/name] and [name]Khloe[/name] should both be spelled with Cs in my opinion.
I am distraught! [name]Penelope[/name] was our girl name!!! We’ve had some fertility issues or I’d probably already have a [name]Penelope[/name]! secondtimearound I don’t think you are crazy for striking it from the list: it’s completely off ours now & it was our #1 girls name. I texted my fiance at 2am when I read what she named her baby. He was just as pissed! I am happy for her baby that it gets such a great name but I am sad that I won’t be able to use it now without people muttering “Kardashian”. My fiance won’t even consider it in the middle spot anymore. I was hesitant to love a name in the Top 500 & this just confirms that I need to go further outside the box if I’m going to feel this way, haha. I [name]DO[/name] think popularity is going to skyrocket. She might not make the top 10 but I bet the jump in popularity will be significant. She’s been on the rise for the past 12 years. Oh, well! Congrats, [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Scotland[/name], you were well named.
I’m not happy about it, either. This was the name we agreed on a few years ago, the only name we can still agree on, and what we’ve been calling our unborn baby since finding out she’s a girl. However, my fiance has spent a significant amount of time today trying to convince me that we can still use it. I’m not so sure. (I actually cried a little bit about it today, like I was mourning a name. Hormones, what can I say? lol) It’s really the only name we both love, it flows well with the middle and last name, and isn’t common where we live at all.
I’m not as familiar with naming trends, especially what happens when a name is used by a well known person, so do you all think it is now unusable? [name]Penelope[/name] has been on a steady climb, and I’m ok with using a name in the Top 100, but I’m not sure I’d want to use something in Top 50 territory.
I also am not at all ok with naming my child something that is mostly associated with a Kardashian. My fiance’s counter argument to this was that it is more tied to [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Cruz[/name] and the Kardashians won’t even have a show in a couple of years. I’m not sure I agree with that, though.
Yes, I think it will become more popular. I know it is already on a rise in the charts but this will definitely give it a boost!
I definitely think we’ll see [name]Penelope[/name] in at least the lower half of the Top 100. With [name]Mason[/name] jumping ten places to #2 (almost unheard of on the boys’ list, and I fully expect him to be #1 next year), I think it’s safe to say that [name]Kourtney[/name] K. has become a trendsetter in this regard.
Damn Kardashians! [name]Penelope[/name] is a lovely name … that shouldn’t curb your decision to use it But I understand, and I definitely think because it’s a nice name and it’s a popular celebrity, the name will rise in the charts.
I’m pretty sure I’m still going to use it, now that rational me has come back. It’s not like a close friend or relative used it. Admittedly, if I wasn’t already so attached to it, I might be looking for another name. I’m going to try to push aside the potential for a huge rise in popularity, simply because the only other names that were on our maybe list are already more popular than [name]Penelope[/name]. My fiance has vetoed any and all relatively obscure names, so anything else we might agree on isn’t going to be safe from popularity either.
I actually think I’d regret not using it. When it comes down to it, I don’t think I should let some person I don’t even know ruin the name I love. Our daughter has been [name]Penelope[/name] for the past 3 months, and unless I get an overwhelming feeling that the name doesn’t suit her, she’s going to stay [name]Penelope[/name].
It was also our top name, and though i shed a tear yesterday when I found out, we are still going to use it. Though I think the name will get more popular, it was already on the rise and a trendy name before [name]Kourtney[/name] used it. When she named [name]Mason[/name], it was already a top 30 name, so going to top 2 isn’t exactly a crazy jump, and I don’t think [name]Penelope[/name] will ever be in the top 10 names.
And, after thinking about it, I am not sure when you say the name, people will immediately think of the Kardashians. I actually always think of [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Cruz[/name], and I don’t think that association will change.
Lastly, I am glad it is not a bigger “real” celebrity who used [name]Penelope[/name] (like angelina jolie), because eventually this obsession with them will end…and in 5 years when our babies are toddlers, they will not be the “hot family” that they are today.
Maybe this is all me trying to convince myself to use the name, but I think if you love a name, and had already planned on using it, you should not change it.
I completely agree, marn209! I’m glad it’s not a major celebrity, too. I think the Kardashians will fade into oblivion within the next 5 years, at least most of them ([name]Kim[/name] might stay around). I also don’t think [name]Penelope[/name] will ever be a Top 10 name. It may very well crack the Top 50 or so, but I don’t think it will go much higher than that, unless a really popular TV show comes along or something. It doesn’t have the same appeal as [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Ava[/name], [name]Isabella[/name], etc. Only 2 people that I’ve said the name to actually liked it. The rest have said, “Oh, well [name]Penny[/name] is nice.” That is probably due to where I live, though. Popular names here are [name]Lily[/name], [name]Emma[/name], [name]Ava[/name], [name]Brooklyn[/name], and anything else that ends with -n.
Maybe we are both in denial, just trying to convince ourselves to use it! I hate that she used it, and I really wish it never rose so high in the first place, but I love the name anyway.
I agree with pp, [name]Mason[/name] was already heading for the top of the chart when [name]Kourtney[/name] used it. [name]Penelope[/name] is trending up, but I doubt it will break the top 100 any time soon.
It’s a lovely name, don’t give up on it!
