What does everyone think of the name [name]Perdita[/name]? I like it a lot. The one problem I have is I pronounce it per-[name]DEE[/name]-tah, and I know a lot of people pronounce it per-[name]DI[/name]-tah. [name]Do[/name] you think that would be a problem? Is there a right or a wrong way to pronounce it?

It means lost, and that kind of does it for me. perDEEta would be the way to say it, at least in Spanish or Italian or Latin. I also can’t shake the 101 Dalmatians association, even though the Shakespearean one is there too.
I know it’s a Shakespearean name, but it’s all “101 Dalmatians” to me. I would pronounce it [name]Per[/name]-dee-tuh on sight. The Shakespearean name is pronounced [name]PER[/name]-dit-uh I’m pretty sure, so you might get people saying that.
I really have no problems with the meaning. It is just a meaning after all, and though I do love names with pretty meanings, it wouldn’t really bother me if the meaning was somewhat melancholy.
I don’t care for it, mostly due to the similarity to the word “perdition” (aka hell).
The meaning isn’t a much of an issue for me as the dog thing the other posters pointed out. I know around 4 families who had Dalmatians named this when they had small children. Disney movies have really stood the test of time so chances are your child would be aware of this name, as would her peers. It is a pretty name though, so if you still love it then I think it’s usable. [name]Just[/name] maybe don’t call her [name]Perdi[/name]…
I don’t really think the movie is that bad of a connotation. My family are all animal lovers, so I have no real problem with it. I was thinking I would probably use the nickname [name]Dita[/name].
101 Dalmations, all the way! I can’t picture it on a child myself. Would you consider the nn [name]Perdy[/name]? That makes me think of purty, kind of the hick way of saying pretty. [name]Dita[/name] makes me think, isn’t there some goth celebrity thats kinda scary looking named [name]Dita[/name] [name]Von[/name] Something?
I knew a [name]Perdita[/name] in high school and she was so cute and sassy, so it has a positive association for me. She pronounced it per-[name]DEE[/name]-tah. I’m not familiar enough with 101 Dalmations to recognize the association, and name meaning has never been high on our list of important factors when choosing a name, so I’m totally on board with this name. I like [name]Perdita[/name]. The meaning doesn’t bother me either – [name]Mary[/name] means bitter and [name]Cameron[/name] means crooked nose, and tons of people name their kids those names! I instinctively pronounce it [name]Per[/name]-[name]DEE[/name]-tuh, never heard of the [name]PER[/name]-dit-uh or [name]Per[/name]-[name]DI[/name]-tuh pronunciations.
[name]Dita[/name] [name]Von[/name] Teese? She’s a burlesque dancer among other things.
My cousin’s wife is named [name]Perdita[/name], and she’s English. She pronounces her name with the accent on the first syllable [name]PER[/name]-dit-uh. I don’t know, it’s an interesting name but I don’t like the fact that it reminds me of spotted dogs, or a lost soul.
There is a very pretty Burlesque dancer named [name]Dita[/name] [name]Von[/name] Teese.
My best friend’s little sis is [name]Perdita[/name]. They’re Latino and pronounce it per-[name]DEE[/name]-tuh. Her name nn is Diti “dee-tee” but she gets called [name]Dita[/name] and [name]Perdy[/name] also.
I strongly dislike it. I too think of “perdition.”
