As I’ve posted before, my husband and I have been circling around names like [name_m]Alistair[/name_m], [name_u]Tristan[/name_u], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] for a few months now and haven’t been able to get anything to stick. I’ve always been interested in [name_m]Peregrin/name_m, but it’s a mouthful and I’ve never seen anyone with the name. (This is totally random, but I googled a singer-songwriter to see the names of his children and lo and behold, one of them is named [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m]! So that emboldened me a little bit)
Things I like about it: My older son is [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. A C.S. [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] name + a Tolkien name is pretty cool although I am far from a LOTR fangirl. I love the meaning of “traveler, wanderer”, that it’s a saint’s name, and that it was the name of the first English baby born off the Mayflower. Cool connections. I’ve heard a little bit on name forums that it’s considered kind of ridiculous in the UK, but I live in the Midwest. So not a huge concern. I think it would read more hipster here. I also love the huge variety of nicknames. He likely will NOT be [name_m]Pip[/name_m]/[name_m]Pippin[/name_m] because the family dog is named [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. I really like just [name_m]Per[/name_m]/[name_m]Pere[/name_m] or [name_f]Rin[/name_f]/[name_u]Ren[/name_u], but I also like that he could potentially use [name_u]Perry[/name_u] or [name_m]Penn[/name_m] if he ended up not being a huge fan of his name as an adult.

I’m leaning towards [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m], the LOTR spelling plus I think it’s bit easier for people, at least in my area, to pronounce. My mom is going to struggle a little either way, I’m sure. We like “[name_u]West[/name_u]” for a middle name, partially because we spent the last five years in [name_u]Colorado[/name_u] and it reminds us of that. We also like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] or possibly [name_u]Kit[/name_u] in the middle spot but are open to suggestions, especially one syllable. Our surname is two syllables, [name_m]German[/name_m], and starts with a K!
I know it’s a somewhat polarizing name so please keep it sweet. I’m in my third tri!
I think [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] would be a great choice. [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u], even more so - it complements the other name, and provides a slightly more ‘normal’ option too. [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] & [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] is a cool sibset, and I love the CS [name_m]Lewi[/name_m] + JRR Tolkien thing! Yes, a quirky name, but it lends interest to life I like the meaning too.
I probably slightly prefer [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] - in the UK you’d find people would pronounce it like [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] anyway (because of the bird of prey I guess), though I know that the name [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] is often/properly pronounced EEN at the end, which you don’t get with [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] . . . but there’s not much in it. The e maybe makes it look more complete??
Favourite nickname - well, I’m warming up to [name_u]Peri[/name_u] / [name_u]Perry[/name_u], actually. [name_u]Reggie[/name_u] would work, too. Not keen on [name_u]Ren[/name_u]/[name_f]Rin[/name_f], personally, feels insubstantial and feminine to me, but obviously that’s a personal opinion.
I’m currently bouncing around [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]/[name_m]Peregrin[/name_m], too (though I’m not expecting). It’s at a middle spot at the moment ([name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], [name_u]Misha[/name_u] [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]), but I’m thinking of promoting it to a first. I also adore [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]!
Anyway, back to the matter at hand - I haven’t decided between [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] or [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] just yet, though I’m quickly warming up to the second. I think the lack of an ‘e’ on the end makes it seem more final, maybe? I’m not too sure.
If I were to have a little [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], I think I’d use the nickname Eren ([name_m]Aaron[/name_m]), though [name_u]Percy[/name_u] is also a possibility for me (I like [name_m]Perseus[/name_m] ‘[name_u]Percy[/name_u]’, though I probably won’t use it myself). As for middles, I really like all three of your suggestions, especially [name_u]Kit[/name_u] (I love [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] ‘[name_u]Kit[/name_u]’) and the meaning [name_u]West[/name_u] has to you. Personally, I like:
- [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]
- [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Altair[/name_m]
- [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_m]Lysander[/name_m]
Good luck!
Oh I looooove this combo! I like that you’re not going the [name_m]Pip[/name_m]/[name_m]Pippin[/name_m] route, which I think would be a bit too Tolkien! I think [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_u]West[/name_u] is just gorgeous, but I also really like [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u]! I like both spellings equally and I think in the US they would be pronounced the same.
Constructive thoughts on the name [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] itself?
I like it! It might be a tad out-there, but it’s also not unheard of either.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] or [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]?
I prefer [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], but if you think [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] might be easier, then I’d stick with that one.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any middle name suggestions?
I love [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_u]West[/name_u]. It’s what made me click on the thread in the first place. [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is also really nice.
What’s your favorite nickname for [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m]?
I like [name_f]Rin[/name_f], but I feel like [name_u]Perry[/name_u] might be default/the more intuitive out of all the nicknames.
All I can say is wow…so strange to see this name combo on the forum. Why? I just so happen to have a [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_u]West[/name_u]. So, of course, I think it’s just gorgeous.
Wow! That’s crazy! I never expected to hear of another [name_m]Peregrin[/name_m] [name_u]West[/name_u]!!! [name_f]Happy[/name_f] to see all the positive feedback here though! Another few months to totally commit, but this is the first name I’ve been excited about for our [name_f]September[/name_f] baby.
