I read a news story about a British star (I think a singer, but maybe an actress) named [name]Perrie[/name]. DH and I think it’s pretty cute, but I’m wondering what other people think of a little girl named [name]Perrie[/name]?
[name]Perry[/name] is a male name and a surname to me. What about [name]Perry[/name] as nickname?
[name]Esperanza[/name], [name]Juniper[/name], [name]Perdita[/name], [name]Peridot[/name], [name]Permelia[/name], [name]Temperance[/name], and [name]Persephone[/name] all work as full names for [name]Perry[/name].
I have heard of that singer! I was surprised when I first heard her name. But she is such a cute girl I have a positive reaction to the name. I don’t like [name]Perry[/name] though…I think the -ie feminizes the name.
I am very against boys’ names on girls, so I feel a little hypocritical here, but I really like the sound of that name on a girl! It does feel more like a nickname, but I think that’s because of the “ie” at the end. If it were [name]Perry[/name], it would seem more like a full name, although I see pp’s point that it makes it more masculine. But I kind of think if you’re going for that name, go for it with [name]Perry[/name] and own it.
It reminds me of the platypus on [name]Phineas[/name] and Ferb… and it does sound more masculine
[name]Perrie[/name] Edwards?
I didn’t really like [name]Peri[/name]/[name]Perry[/name]/[name]Perrie[/name] on a girl before I came across her, and what little I know of her hasn’t really impressed me, so I can’t say I’m a huge fan. I think something like [name]Persephone[/name] nn [name]Peri[/name]/[name]Perrie[/name] is pretty cute, though. Although I do prefer Sephie and [name]Posy[/name] as nns for [name]Persephone[/name], personally.
i don’t have exclusively male associations with it, although i think the spelling [name]Peri[/name] is a little more clearly feminine. i know girls named Perel or [name]Pearl[/name] who use [name]Peri[/name] as a nickname, and i’ve seen it on it’s own in books. it’s cute, and it doesn’t have an overly masculine sound, even if people do primarily end up calling it male.
Usually i’m not into “unisex” names AT ALL, but this one doesn’t seem as crazy to me - maybe because i experience it as a female name independent of the male name (it’s not a feminization to me, it’s a girl name in its own right).
if you’re interested, it works as nickname for a bunch of longer ones:
[name]Pearl[/name]/[name]Perla[/name]
[name]Perrine[/name]
[name]Petronella[/name]
[name]Persis[/name]
…there are prob others i’m not coming up with now.
Looks like Perrier water
I like [name]Perry[/name] for boys or girls, but moreso for boys. It’s means pear tree so it’s fine for either gender
All my mommy brain can think of is Periwinkle “[name]Peri[/name]” on [name]Blue[/name]'s Clue’s. He’s a boy, but I agree that it could easily work with either gender.
[name]Perry[/name] is a boys name to me all the way. It was my mother’s surname, and my brothers middle. He’s called [name]Perry[/name] all the time. I suppose if I hadn’t grown up around a boy named [name]Perry[/name], I might think differently. But it’s masculine to me. I guess [name]Perrie[/name] is a more feminine variation, but I don’t care for it either. Sorry!

Nms, but I grew up with a female [name]Perry[/name]. No one thought it was weird at all. If you like it, go for it!
I think [name]Perrie[/name] on a girl is adorable!
I agree with a lot of you in not liking Boys names on girls… but something just feels different about [name]Perrie[/name]/[name]Peri[/name]. I agree that it’s very nick-namey, but I dislike all the full-name options. The cartoon associations don’t really bother us. Our kids are both huge [name]Phineas[/name] and Ferb fans, they think the name is the best option yet. lol Hubby and I really like it and have added it to the short list! Now we just need a middle for it. I think [name]Peri[/name] [name]Madison[/name] has a nice flow to it, but I’m looking for other options.
Another thing I just realized after seeing this forum a 2nd time was that I immediately though of [name]Katy[/name] [name]Perry[/name]. So if you don’t like that association, you might want to rethink the name…
For some reason I hear [name]Prairie[/name] when [name]Perrie[/name] is said quickly
I don’t really like it for a girl or a boy…
When I think of this name, it conjures up two images: (1) a suave, classy male singer ([name]Perry[/name] [name]Como[/name]) or a large, booming-voiced lawyer who always gets the bad guy in the end (TV’s [name]Perry[/name] [name]Mason[/name]). I can’t imagine it on a girl no matter what way you spell it.
When I entered the thread it seems I was thinking the same as a lot of other berries.
I think it’s cute, but I’d use it as a nn not as a full first name.
[name]Peregrine[/name]
Periwinkle
[name]Persephone[/name]
Perrier
Perica
Perenella
[name]Perpetua[/name]
[name]Perlita[/name]
This is my mom’s first name and she absolutely hates it. Her whole life she’s gone by her middle name instead.
It was probably [name]Perrie[/name] Edwards or [name]Katy[/name] [name]Perry[/name]…
