Persephone?

Thoughts on [name]Persephone[/name]?

I really do adore this name … for some reason I have loads of weird but nice associations with it - a lovely shade of pink, parasols at the beach, blossoms etc. I don’t get any images in my head with any other names, just this one

But I don’t know if it would ever be usable. I’m all for quirky names, but I’m not sure if a daughter of mine would want to bear a name that so many people might mispronounce - do you think the inevitable [per-seh-fone] pronunciation renders it unusable? I only saw two Persephones in the Telegraph birth announcements, one in 2006 and one in 2009.

I’d probably use the nicknames Sephie, Peppa/[name]Pepper[/name], [name]Poppy[/name] and [name]Penny[/name]…
I love the way it would sound in a sibset with my top favourites too - [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Persephone[/name] <3

Also, any middle name ideas? I quite like the idea of Persephone Elisabeth and Persephone Clara May off the top of my head, but I’m definitely open to suggestions.

I love [name]Persephone[/name]! I think that once you say it once, people will catch on quickly as to how it’s said and the ending is so close to [name]Penelope[/name], that I doubt many people will have too many spelling issues. I think it’s sweet, unique and exotic.

As for middles, I think your [name]Persephone[/name] [name]Elisabeth[/name] is right on point. I think she really needs something classical and traditional in the middle to balance everything out. [name]Persephone[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Persephone[/name] [name]Claire[/name] both spring to mind.

I love [name]Persephone[/name] too! A great goddess name

I love [name]Persephone[/name]. If people know how to pronounce [name]Penelope[/name], they shouldn’t have trouble pronouncing [name]Persephone[/name].

I actually really like the idea of a little [name]Persephone[/name]. If [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] can work, why not [name]Persephone[/name]?

love [name]Persephone[/name], dh doesn’t :frowning: I would use it in a heartbeat.

That’s quite true about [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name], completely forgot about those! [name]Hermione[/name]'s pronunciation is well-known now to … so yeah, [name]Persephone[/name] does fit in there  [name]Glad[/name] to see it’s more usable than I though!
