This name keeps coming back to me, and I love it (it always reminds me of a dream by the seaside, if that makes any sense?). I just wanted to hear some thoughts. Also, how do you pronounce it?
Reminds me a bit too much of [name]Perseus[/name] … son of [name]Zeus[/name] … and thus feels masculine to me.
Have you ever read [name]Anne[/name]'s House of Dreams? It’s part of the [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables series. In it, an old sea captain tells a tale of a woman named [name]Persis[/name] [name]Leigh[/name], “the schoolmaster’s bride,” who was thought to be lost at sea on her way to her new home. After several suspenseful days, the schoolmaster dreamed that she was still alive; soon afterward she arrived and they (of course) lived happily ever after.
It’s a rather pretty name. I pronounce it with “per” as in “perfect” and “sis” as in “sister,” accent on the first syllable.
Yes, I have. In fact, as a child I LOVED the entire [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables series. And if I’m not mistaken, that’s also what [name]Leslie[/name] named her daughter?
My thoughts exactly.
I have a gggreat grandmother named this and it’s growing on me. But I can’t use due to surname. I think it works fine for a girl and you could use [name]Isis[/name] as a nn.
[name]Love[/name] it because of this, and because it’s from the Bible, and because no one has ever heard it usually… Would love to see someone use it and not be afraid of negativity.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Persis[/name] because of [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables! I’m still not brave enough to use it, but I would absolutely love to meet a little [name]Persis[/name]! I like the pp suggestion of using [name]Isis[/name] for a nn!
I love [name]Persis[/name]! It’s a gorgeous name. I first heard of it in [name]Anne[/name]'s House of Dreams as well. I would love to meet a little girl named [name]Persis[/name]! I’d use it myself, but my last name is [name]Moss[/name] - too many s’s, do you think?
I don’t want to be the weird one here, but does no one else make the connection to a certain male body part? Maybe it’s just me but I can’t get over that…
I think it’s ugly, sorry.
I think it’s cute! A very strong name for a little one. The great thing about it is it’s not too far out there, but a little [name]Persis[/name] is not likely to ever meet another person that shares her name. Yes, it’s similar to [name]Perseus[/name], but that name has always sounded a bit girly to me so I think it works. Personally I’d feel sorry for a boy named [name]Perseus[/name] these days. As far as it sounding too close to a male body part, I think that’s ridiculous. It begins and ends with the same letters. That’s as far as the likeness goes. Penis never would have entered my mind had I not read a previous post.
Maybe it’s an age - no, more likely gender - issue, but for me the first thought is usually…
I thought it was her that both put it on the modern naming scene and kept it a “one-person” name. (I hate when names get “claimed” that way.)
My 94 year-old neighbor is named [name]Persis[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and is called PJ. I absolutely love it.
[name]Unique[/name] but not weird and I NEVER think of a male body part or a man when I hear it!
I thought I liked it, until I said it out loud, asking my husband if he liked it. All I can here is “PURSES.” As in, “Did [name]Persis[/name] lose her purse?” …I really wanted to like it.
I love that name:) its so beautiful. It’s one of my absolute favorite names, and it was introduced to me by [name]Anne[/name] of green gables.
I agree with the post about the male body part. That was what I first thought that came to my mind when i saw the name. I can just imagine the boys in junior high having a field day with that name.
When spoken aloud, alas, it’s homonymous with purses. But it’s beautiful-- a cool, slightly masculine name along the line of [name]Hollis[/name] or [name]Maris[/name].
I [name]Love[/name] [name]Persis[/name].
If the similarity to ‘purses’ is too much, Perseis is also lovely.
I have the ‘purses’ problem with long time love Sophus which sounds like ‘sofas’
^^
I know it’s been mentioned, but I love [name]Persis[/name] because of the [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables series. I think it’s a great name.
