I don’t think [name]Flo[/name] is inevitable with [name]Flora[/name]. People will only call her what you call her. They are not going to give her a nickname if you don’t use it. Her friends might call her [name]Flo[/name] in high school, but she will be old enough to stop them by that time if she doesn’t like it. I feel [name]Florence[/name] demands the nickname [name]Flo[/name] much more strongly just because it’s a longer name which is not as comfortable to say. [name]Flora[/name] is cute and I would not think to call her [name]Flo[/name].

[name]One[/name] idea: could you use [name]Florence[/name] nn [name]Flora[/name]? Then when you meet with [name]Nora[/name] you can call her [name]Florence[/name] if [name]Flora[/name] seems an issue?
I don’t think [name]Flo[/name] is a nn I would have thought of to be honest. I would be most likely to call her [name]Petal[/name] (as a verbal only nn) .

We don’t like the name [name]Florence[/name], it just sounds too old lady like. It’s also a city name and I’m not a fan of place names…

[name]Petal[/name] is actually cute, but I doubt my fiance’ would agree to that, he isn’t a fan of “unique” names, which is why I’m surprised he likes [name]Luna[/name]. He even prefers it over [name]Flora[/name], but he does like [name]Flora[/name].

I would assume people would shorten [name]Flora[/name] to [name]Florie[/name], not [name]Flo[/name]. I can see a [name]Florence[/name] being shortened to [name]Flo[/name] because it’s a longer name, but if people shorten [name]Flora[/name], I think it would be to [name]Florie[/name].

I prefer [name]Flora[/name] over [name]Luna[/name].

I love [name]Flora[/name]! I’m surprised by all the worry about [name]Flo[/name] on this site, it seems so comical thanks to [name]Flo[/name] from the Progressive commercials, and so old-lady at the same time. Sort of frumpy. So I don’t really see why people would naturally TRY and use that nn, since most people seem to not like it. I think [name]Flora[/name] is lovely, and I prefer it to [name]Luna[/name] a million times over. I love [name]Luna[/name], but I pretty much adore [name]Flora[/name]. Maybe you could use the French variant, [name]Fleur[/name], to distinguish her from [name]Nora[/name] if you ever need to?

Good luck!

Well it’s good to know a lot you wouldn’t have thought to use [name]Flo[/name] with [name]Flora[/name]

[name]Flora[/name] is basically tied with [name]Luna[/name] at this point. They’ll probably be our top two names.

As a massive [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] fan I love [name]Luna[/name], but I think [name]Flora[/name] is very cute too. I’d be absolutely mortified if someone tried to child my child [name]Flo[/name], but I really don’t think that [name]Flora[/name] needs a nickname. As for the [name]Nora[/name]/[name]Flora[/name] issue, my name rhymes with my cousin’s and we’re the same age, but we’ve always just been [name]Marisa[/name] and [name]Melissa[/name] so I seriously doubt it’ll be a problem.

I like [name]Flora[/name] and [name]Luna[/name] equally, which is a lot, and find it too hard to choose between them! I remember meeting a [name]Flora[/name] in college, a real hippie chick, and thinking, wow, love that name! And [name]Luna[/name] is just all around cool. I’m really surprised at how popular [name]Luna[/name] is and how underutilised [name]Flora[/name] is. I think with [name]Nora[/name]/[name]Cora[/name]/[name]Dora[/name] all on the rise, eventually [name]Flora[/name] should start picking up as well, especially since it’s way prettier and neater than the rest of them  . Oh, and I think I’d call a [name]Flora[/name] just plain [name]Flor[/name] before calling her [name]Flo[/name].

I’d go with [name]Flora[/name]. I don’t think anyone would downgrade [name]Flora[/name] to “[name]Flo[/name]” when [name]Flora[/name] is so much prettier and is not a long or cumbersome name.

You could always do [name]Flossie[/name], which is so cute and vintage. But if you don’t want nn then just never call her by a nickname and I think most people would follow your lead. I always look to the parents for how they call their child, if they use a full name I’ll use the full name, if they use a nn then I’ll use the nn they use.

I like both names equally - hard one! Go with the one you like best, call her by the full name if you want, but ultimately it will be up to her if she wants to go by [name]Flo[/name] or something else.

I like both, but for different reasons. I think [name]Flora[/name] is classic and charming, while [name]Luna[/name] is quirky and a little mystical. So for me it would depend on what kind of first impression I’d want my child’s name to convey.

I wouldn’t worry about the [name]Flo[/name] factor - [name]Flora[/name] is already a shorter name so people probably won’t feel the need to shorten it.

I’m fine with that, like if in High School, her friends call her [name]Flo[/name]. I just don’t want her to be influenced when she’s little, but from the sounds of it, that shouldn’t be a problem. The tricky part is deciding between [name]Luna[/name] and [name]Flora[/name]…

Oh, and we’re not a fan of nicknames, she’ll just be [name]Flora[/name] if we name her [name]Flora[/name]. No flo, flor, or florie. [name]Petal[/name] is cute, but if I did call her that, it would be when she’s a baby or in some phrase like “My little petal” kind of like how my parents called me “honey bee” so it wouldn’t be an actual nickname, more of a term of endearment.

Same with [name]Luna[/name], [name]Luna[/name] would just be [name]Luna[/name], no [name]Lu[/name] or [name]Lulu[/name]…

The names are short enough that I find a nn a little unnecessary.

Go with [name]Flora[/name]! It’s a classic name. I don’t know if [name]Luna[/name] would age well.

[name]Flora[/name]! [name]Love[/name] it so much. [name]Luna[/name] is cute, but it feels a lot less timeless and flexible than [name]Flora[/name], which I think can be both playful and elegant. ([name]Luna[/name] is more fully playful, to me.)

I said [name]Flora[/name] but I like [name]Luna[/name] too

Now I’m curious… what kind of girl do you imagine with the name [name]Luna[/name]? [name]Flora[/name]?

To me both names give me the image of a cute little girl who is kind of shy, quiet, artsy, musical… so I’m curious as to what the different impressions would be between [name]Luna[/name] and [name]Flora[/name].

I didn’t vote because: [name]Flora[/name] is my middle name, and I have always disliked it. I feel it’s stodgy next to my more
"pretty"names.
I can not vote for [name]Luna[/name], I dislike it, and to me it’s a pets name. (have met many dogs named luna) case in point:[name]Manon[/name] (a kids cartoon on treehouse tv) has a cat named [name]Luna[/name], and [name]Sailor[/name] moons cat was also luna
