We welcomed our third child last month, a little sister for [name_m]Peter[/name_m] and [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f].
After much ado, we named her [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] Darling.
[name_f]Antonia[/name_f] is a name we have loved for years - it’s a family name for me and it also honours my husband’s heritage. I love that it’s both sweet and strong, playful yet smart. We actually considered it when I was pregnant with [name_f]Eugenie[/name_f], but when she was born, we knew [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] just did not fit. This little girl, however, is an [name_f]Antonia[/name_f]. Everyone who’s met her thinks her name suits her to a T!
Darling is a very special name for us. [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Pan[/name_m] is my husband’s and my favourite childhood book, and I almost cried when I found this out at one of our first dates. Darling is also quite similar to my mother-in-law’s maiden name.
Our nickname for her was going to be the oh-so-simple [name_f]Annie[/name_f], but we’re also calling her [name_u]Tony[/name_u], [name_f]Antoinette[/name_f], [name_f]Nia[/name_f] and Toto. Her brother’s pet name for her is Toto [name_m]Bean[/name_m], which I think is too cute.
Other names on our list were [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Magda[/name_f], [name_f]Tilda[/name_f], [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] and [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], but [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] trumps them all for us. We love the connection to [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] of Padua and [name_m]Anton[/name_m] Chekhov, beside other things. Had she been a boy, her name would have been [name_u]Robin[/name_u].
[name_f]Antonia[/name_f] is such a sweet and easy baby and everyone loves her. Thanks Nameberry for helping us choose her name!
