Philip or Phillip?

Which spelling do you prefer? [name]Philip[/name] or [name]Phillip[/name]? [name]One[/name] L or two?

I’ve taken quite a liking to this name, I think it fits nicely with my boys names, but not at all with my girls. (Notably [name]Alessandra[/name] and [name]Elena[/name])
[name]Nathaniel[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Eric[/name], [name]Leo[/name], [name]Lucas[/name], [name]Philip[/name].

After much thought about it, I think I would use one L. However, I like both spellings, so it’s a hard choice.

I like one L better

Actually I think [name]Philip[/name] with one L could fit with [name]Alessandra[/name] and [name]Elena[/name]. It has a little more flavor that way. [name]Phillip[/name] sounds squarer to me.

The original, classic spelling had but one L. ([name]Phil[/name]+hippos, philippos, lover of horses.)

I love [name]Phillip[/name] with two Ls, because I think it looks complete and like more of a strong-standing name. Plus I carry over the L sound in the name, so it works best for me.

I’m a one L person, I emphasise the -lip bit more on the two Ls.

I like [name]Philip[/name] with one because it looks more sleek and streamlined to me.

Definitely one l.

Definitely one L, traditional and avoids being surname-esque.

Prefer the one L. It is a nice, strong name.

I prefer the [name]Phillip[/name] spelling, with two Ls. It looks more complete and solid to me.

I prefer the one L spelling. It looks more balanced somehow.

It’s a handsome name either way.

I don’t know, whichever is the more classic is the one I would use…but I sure love the name and would totally use it if it worked with our last name.

[name]Philip[/name] with one L, definitely.

I read this once and I though it was quite amusing - if you consider the Greek elements in the name, [name]Phillip[/name] (the two L’s) looks like you are anglicising not [name]Phil[/name]-hippos (horse-lover) but [name]Phil[/name]-lipos (fat-lover).

I prefer “[name]Philip[/name]” because of the connection to Dickens’ Great Expectations. You can call him “pip” for short, which is a very cute nickname.

I prefer [name]Philip[/name], if only because of all those similar-looking letters. [name]Philip[/name] with the ili can look a bit like a block of the same, makes my eyes glaze a bit – [name]Phillip[/name] with illi makes me think “philllllllllllip” in my head.

I prefer [name]Philip[/name] as well.

[name]Philip[/name] looks more modern to me for some reason, I prefer it this way.

Definitely one L.
I love [name]Nathaniel[/name] and [name]Henry[/name], as well.
