We recently found out we’re pregnant with our second baby. It’s still too early to actually know the gender, but I have a girl feeling this time around, so we’ve been thinking about girl names. We’ve narrowed it down to [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f]. [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Thora[/name_f], and [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] are our runners up.
I’m not looking for suggestions, really, although I certainly don’t mind suggestions, especially for good middle names! I’m more interested in what you think of the names [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u]? Hate? Meh? [name_m]General[/name_m] vibes?
I like [name_f]Leona[/name_f] a lot! [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is cute too. I think you’ll have a winner either way, but my personal preference is [name_f]Leona[/name_f]
With [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], your other names could make good middles: [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Thora[/name_f] for example sounds so strong. [name_f]Leona[/name_f] might be good with a one syllable middle, like [name_f]Leona[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f].
Thanks for the feedback!! I keep going back and forth between the two. It’s funny, [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is a name that I only really love when I’m pregnant. It was never on my list till I had my first, when it was one of my top choices for a girl, then I kind of went off it for a while till I got pregnant again, and now I love it again! Hormones are weird! [name_f]Leona[/name_f] has grown on me more and more the last few months though. I’ve kind of been thinking about [name_f]Leona[/name_f] Eve…I agree, a 1 syllable middle sounds good!
Both are great names - [name_f]Leona[/name_f] & [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] are easily my favorites out of your list. I’d probably choose [name_f]Leona[/name_f], but it’s definitely a close call.
I like both of these names! I would say that I do prefer [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] by quite a bit! I think something like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f] would be really cute!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]! [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is cute, but I’m not really a fan because I think it sounds too nickname-like for an adult or anyone other than a child. [name_f]Leona[/name_f] is unique and sounds lovely. Also love [name_f]Thea[/name_f] <3 .
I know a number of slightly older young ladies with the name [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] (it was hugely popular in my area in Australia) and 10-15 yrs ago) and there middle name always seem to be rose so I’ll suggest phoebe rose works hehe. It’s a very pretty name
I love [name_f]Leona[/name_f], simple and strong yet feminine! What about [name_f]Leona[/name_f] Elodie/ [name_f]Leona[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] has been on my list as well! I think it’s super feminine and works well for a little girl as well as an adult. [name_f]Leona[/name_f] sounds more old fashioned to me, but it doesn’t mean it’s not beautiful. I just prefer phoebe.
I like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] a lot! We’re also thinking about [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] which is similar! I like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f] too. You’ve touched on both of our concerns though—I worry [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] sounds a bit…young? Nicknamey? But I also worry [name_f]Leona[/name_f] is still a bit grandma. Names are hard!!!
I really love [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]! [name_u]Bright[/name_u] and bubbly! [name_f]Leona[/name_f] has a strong and classy vibe so I don’t think you can go wrong
I prefer [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]. It’s cute and a tad quirky, familiar yet not too commonly used. [name_f]Leona[/name_f] doesn’t appeal to me, although I couldn’t tell you why. [name_m]Just[/name_m] personal preference I suppose.
[name_f]My[/name_f] absolute top pick of your choices is [name_f]Thea[/name_f] though, although if it doesn’t feel right in the first name position then I think [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f] is absolutely beautiful. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is lovely too.
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is a nice name! It always makes me think of the character from friends but I like that character so it’s a positive association. You just might get a lot of Friends references with it.
[name_f]Leona[/name_f] is also pretty. I only think of the singer [name_f]Leona[/name_f] [name_m]Lewis[/name_m]. She wasn’t super popular for super long though so people might not make that association as much.
I think I prefer [name_f]Leona[/name_f] to [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]!
I really like both Leona and Phoebe! I think they make great sister names too, if another baby girl was in your future. Whichever one you choose will be lovely!
Phoebe doesn’t sound childish or nicknamey to me at all, maybe because I know an adult Phoebe and I think of it as a Bible name.
I’ve never met a real Leona but I love the look and sound and strong lion meaning.
Thank you all so much for the opinions and suggestions! This is super helpful!! I agree entirely with all the [name_f]Thea[/name_f] love, it’s definitely on our emergency list in case [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f] don’t seem right on the day of! It’s important to have extra options!
[name_f]Leona[/name_f] is a sweet and powerful name! I adore it!
[name_f]Leona[/name_f] [name_f]Theadora[/name_f], maybe? [name_u]Or[/name_u] just [name_f]Theodora[/name_f].
Leona sounds very elegant imo and Phoebe just sounds so fun! Phoebe is on my own list so obviously I love it!! Leona I’m a little more on the fence about, it doesn’t really spark my interest in a positive or negative way really.
Just saw that you’re worried about Phoebe sounding too young! I know what you mean as someone whose name also ends in the ‘bee’ sound and often feel like I won’t suit my name when I’m a lot older! However, think of Phoebe in friends! She’s an adult and she suits it really well, so I don’t think people actually think about it that hard. (have you ever looked at someone over 50 and thought their name seemed too young?)
I love [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]! It’s adorable for a little girl yet strong and sophisticated as she grows up. It also has some really cool meanings (bright, shining, radiant), with a botanical and lunar tie-in (bird and goddess of the moon), and both literary and biblical connections, too! How can you go wrong?! I know it’s fairly popular in places like Australia and the UK, but here in the states is totally underrated and uncommon still.
