Phoenix

Could you pull [name]Phoenix[/name] off for a girls name?

You know what? I love this as a boys name, but why not as a girl’s name? It starts like [name]Phoebe[/name], then adds the cool x ending. I love it!

[name]Mel[/name] B of the spice girls thought so, isnt that her oldest daughters name

I know a girl named [name]Phoenix[/name]…she totally suits her name! gorgeous, smart and easy going…

What would be a good middle name? What about [name]Zenobia[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name]? I can’t think of any amazing middle names for [name]Phoenix[/name], it would have to be very feminine.

I remember a comment a movie reviewer made about Eragon. He thought the villain’s name, Galbatorix, was funny because, in Latin, an -ix ending is like -ess. I recognized that they were trying to emulate ancient Gaulish, not Latin, names, where -ix was a male ending.

I think of [name]Phoenix[/name] as a boy’s name, but it’s not sufficiently established as such that using it on a girl is unreasonable.

Checking the SSA database… whoa, it’s more common than I thought, for both genders. In 2009, there was almost one girl [name]Phoenix[/name] for every two boys (#720/398 babies vs. #367/814 babies).

Hmmm, I don’t like how common it is then. I don’t want this name to turn out to be the “next big thing” or even the top 100.
