Pick apart my names

Let’s try a different tactic in order to get this list narrowed down! Please completely nit pick faults with our list to put me off using them and maybe pick your top 3 options?

Here’s the list. My fiancé gets an unusual middle name and spunky nickname, I then get a frilly, more traditional first. [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] is a second middle name (my surname)

  • Amelie Sonnet Quinn “Ami/MiMi/Melie”
  • Arabella Poet Quinn “Ara”
  • Aria Primrose Quinn “Ari”
  • Aurora Posy Quinn “Rory”
  • Eleanor Birdie Quinn “Nori/Noor/Lennie”
  • Elena Primrose Quinn “Lennie”
  • Eloise Meadow Quinn “Lou”
  • Freya Nightingale Quinn “Frey/Rey”
  • Genevieve Lyra Quinn “Vivi/Neve/Ginny”
  • Hazel Ophelia Quinn “Zel”
  • Lucia Primrose Quinn “Lu/Chi”
  • Matilda Posy Quinn “Mattie”
  • Penelope Lyra Quinn “Nell”
  • Rosa Nightingale Quinn “Ro”
  • Rosalie Sonnet Quinn “Ro”
  • Violet Ophelia Quinn “Vi”

Amelie [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] are beautiful. [name_f]My[/name_f] only concern w/ [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is that it doesn’t roll off the tongue super well, and that [name_u]Ami[/name_u] seems dated.
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]—it’s lovely if somewhat fussy
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] is a super cute name. I’ve just never gotten behind the [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] sound or vibe.
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], and [name_f]Violet[/name_f]—not a fan of these.
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]—[name_u]Mattie[/name_u] is sooooo cute! [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] is actually stunning.

Rosa Nighingale—beautiful
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Sonnet[/name_f]—lovely flow
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Sunday[/name_f]—[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] is fun and quirky.

I think I’m going to go with the [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] combo just because I love [name_u]Mattie[/name_u] so well.
How about [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Blossom[/name_f]?

Amelie — trendy and somewhat twee, clearly inspired by the movie. It’s alright.
Arabella — too twee and frilly
Aurora — hard to say, twee, and frilly
Eleanor — I am in the minority when I say I completely dislike this name. It’s grumpy and old-sounding to my ears (great namesake, though )
Elena — it’s ok. I think of Elena Kagen (so obviously this name will not set her back). Nothing sparkles about it and it starts with “uh.”
Matilda — trendy, but literary; ends with “duh.” Still cute.
Penelope — this is a polarizing name! I’ve never liked it (do like the Greek mythology, though!). Ends in “pee,” but Penny and Nell are potential nns. Tina Fey named her daughter Penelope, so that’s a good sign for you bc she’s great.
Violet — this is the the cilantro of names. Some people say they think of “violent” when they hear/see it. I don’t. I love Violet and thinks it’s gorgeous. It’s daring and strong. Slightly antique, but again, I love this name.
Aria — trendy GOT name. Basically “air,” and asking “are ya?”
Eloise — like this name, don’t like “wheeze” sound. Prefer Louisa
Freya — cool goddess name, but “frayed” pants is my biggest image here. Trendy.
Hazel — it’s alright, kinda old sounding. Something about it is slightly allergic to me lol or maybe just dizzying. Not my fav.
Lucia — hmmm, prefer Lucy.
Rosa — prefer Rose (great namesake, though!).
Rosalie— unwieldy sound, kinda floats into space in the end. Prefer Rose or Rosemary.
Tallulah — way too frilly, though I do like the nn “Tally.”

:leaves::star2:Favorite from this list is definitely Violet Ophelia Quinn! :leaves::star2:

Matilda is my second fav!

The only ones I LOVE are [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Maple[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] ([name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_f]Maple[/name_f] is precious!!!) and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. The others don’t quite hit the mark for me…

Amelie [name_f]Otter[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] lacks the elegance of your other names
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] feels a bit tongue twistery to me

Arabella [name_u]Lyric[/name_u] has a lot of l sounds

I find [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Maple[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] a little tricky to say. I go to say [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] which is why i like [name_u]Fable[/name_u] best. The same goes with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Maple[/name_f]

Elena [name_u]Story[/name_u] is a little choppy

Matilda [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] feels a bit mismatched to me

Penelope [name_f]Zora[/name_f] is a bit harsh and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Poem[/name_f] is a bit cheesy

Violet [name_f]Acacia[/name_f] is very floral/planty

Tallulah [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] is a bit much - a little cutesy

Freya [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u] isnt as exciting as your other names

Rosa [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u] is okay but it lacks the elegance of your other names

This was hard as your list is so lovely

My top 3 picks would be…

Amelie [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]

Combos that almost made the list were [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]! You have too many great combos! :slightly_smiling_face:

I like :
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]- I love the book character! Lots of nickname potential
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]- Absolutely beautiful! Very popular though.
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]- lovely, character in a book. I hear “wheeze” though.
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]- classic and dignified
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]- gorgeous and strong
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]- so cute!
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] - ahh, I love this one!
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]- beautiful!

I’m not a fan of:
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]- Both are hard to pronounce for me.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]- this reminds me of male anatomy or the word elope
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] - I don’t like the sound of this one
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]/ [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]- I prefer just [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

Now on to the combos:

Top 3:

Matilda [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] :heart_eyes:/ [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]

Nitpicking!:

  • Amelie nn [name_u]Ami[/name_u] - No to [name_u]Ami[/name_u] as a nickname - it just ruins the loveliness of [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. Makes it seem plain.
  • Elena - kinda boring next to your other choices
  • Aria - too popular
  • Too weird/unfortunate of middle names - [name_f]Otter[/name_f], [name_u]Story[/name_u], [name_u]Poet[/name_u], [name_f]Sonnet[/name_f].

My faves are [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] nn [name_u]Mattie[/name_u], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] nn [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] nn [name_u]Lou[/name_u]. They have the cutest nickname options!

I love that the first middle names are a bit daring. [name_u]Fable[/name_u] and [name_f]Sonnet[/name_f] are awesome!

My favorites combinations are:

Violet Orphelia [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. [name_f]Vi[/name_f] is adorable!
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Frey[/name_m]!

I dislike [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], but love [name_f]Lyra[/name_f].

Otter and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] are not pleasing to me.

I know someone named Freylis ([name_m]Frey[/name_m]-liss). If [name_f]Freya[/name_f] is too popular for you, Freylis is equally beautiful.

i love the name [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] ! I am from the UK and a teenager, and know 2 people (14 and 10) called this, so it definitely works. i have no idea what @voughtlori means by it not rolling off the tongue, as i have always thought its a name that rolls off the tongue incredibly well. ‘ami’ is a little dated i agree, and its not a name that ‘needs’ a nickname. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Sonnet[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Otter[/name_f] are my favourties in that order. Out of the rest, i think my favourite first is [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] followed by [name_f]Freya[/name_f]

i don’t know what you mean by your comment on ‘arab’ but i hope it wasn’t anything unsavory. my first thought is the song by arctic monkeys

oh okay good : )

I agree, [name_u]Ami[/name_u] isn’t my favourite but I can’t think of anything else that works. [name_f]My[/name_f] other half likes [name_u]Ami[/name_u] too. The only other name I could think of was [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] which he also likes. I know an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] but I think it might be too much of a stretch with [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]?

Millie?

I really like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]!

Lots of good names there - only a couple I don’t like - [name_f]Otter[/name_f], just seems odd and unappealing to me, and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], too frilly (and, sorry, sounds silly to me). I do love your creative nns eg Ze for [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] (though I’m not a great fan of [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] this is nice).

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] versions are [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Fable[/name_u] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Sonnet[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]. These flow best and are gorgeously quirky but still very usable. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] version is [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_u]Story[/name_u] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] - evocative and flows well. [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u] is interesting though too, and my 2nd choice with [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].

Based on how much I love the first name, how well the combo works, and how much I like the nn, I like these from the next group:
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] (love [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f])
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] (love [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_f]Posey[/name_f] is gorgeous in the middle)
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_f]Lu[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_f]Ro[/name_f] (though I like [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] more)

My all up favourites are Penelope/Nell and Lucia/Lu and Matilda Sonnet or Fable/Mattie.

Amelie
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is pretty, much prefer the nn [name_f]Elle[/name_f] though.

Amelie [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] - I dont really like this one, [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is elegant and dainty while [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] feels quite loud.
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f] - This is pretty, but it doesnt shine, you know?
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Otter[/name_f] - Again, [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is very elegant while [name_f]Otter[/name_f]… is not. I do like [name_f]Otter[/name_f], but not with the very feminine [name_f]Amelie[/name_f].
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u] - Reminds me of [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u] and sparring. ‘[name_u]Sparrow[/name_u]’ has such a sharp and precise sound, and I dont really like it in general.
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Fable[/name_u] - I like this one, it’s fine!
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Sonnet[/name_f] - I do like this one as well.

Matilda
'Waltzing [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], Waltzing [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], you’ll come a-Waltzing [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], with me.
That’s all I think of, not a bad name, but the song is about a man who lives in the bush with his swag, he then gets in trouble with the law because he stole & killed a sheep… so an interesting association.

Matilda [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] - Feels like two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle that dont quite fit, theres just something off about this combo.
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_u]Sparrow[/name_u] - Not much to say really, it’s fine.
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_u]Story[/name_u] - I like this one best, flows quite well. However (and this is me nitpicking, lol) There is the story about a girl named Matilda, it does sort of sound like you are referencing a book, “You know, that [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] story!”

Aurora [name_f]Posy[/name_f] - [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is pretty on paper, but its really weird to say in real life. It is a nice combo though.
I dont have anything to nitpick about the others, they are all fine!

Top Three
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u] (:heart_eyes::heart_eyes:)
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Sonnet[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]

What about [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]? That sounds nice and like the protagonist of a children’s book!
