My husband has a taste in names that I can’t quantify. I don’t think he really has a style of names and it’s been impossible for me to find anything for him to even consider.
He came up with our daughter’s name ([name_f]Agatha[/name_f]) out of the blue. He wasn’t keen on [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] as a middle name but I talked him into it and he loves it, now.
The only name he LOVES is [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f]. I love it, too, but people have pointed out that it sounds like “disaster” and he won’t consent to any other middle names and I’m not sure if I can saddle a child with that. We use our daughter’s full name a lot and I’m sure we would do the same for a second child, too.
Some names he says “aren’t terrible” are:
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] (nickname [name_f]Kat[/name_f], not [name_f]Kate[/name_f]/[name_f]Katie[/name_f])
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] ([name_f]Elle[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f])
He also loves [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] (as do I) but it’s too close to [name_f]Agatha[/name_f].
I am very, very set on not using a top 100 name, especially due to the uniqueness of our daughter’s name. Can anyone recommend suggestions for names outside the top 100 that I can suggest to him?
If it helps, he said these names were “okay” in the past when we were naming our first daughter:
I don’t think of disaster with [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] either. I think it’s usable. I like [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] from your maybe list.
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] (I think [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] would be OK in the middle with [name_f]Agatha[/name_f])
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f]
I quite like [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] - I don’t think is sounds like disaster, but now you’ve pointed it out, visually it reminds me of disaster (sorry) - that said, I don’t think I would have noticed if you hadn’t mentioned the word disaster, so I’m not sure if it’s something to worry about. [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] or [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] could be alternatives maybe?
I’m so happy to see that somebody used [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] in real life! Such a cool name honestly. I’ve really grown to like [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] as well recently, but I agree it’s definitely too close to [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] to be used. Maybe as a middle tho…?
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] is wonderful and definitely doesn’t remind me of “disaster”! I think [name_f]Delia[/name_f] hits that same sweet spot of being classic, familiar but very underused, just like [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] does.
From your husband’s list I love [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] and [name_f]Helena[/name_f] with [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], imo they all share that similar vibe I just described.
Some other suggestions for you (sorry for repeats):
I think [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] and [name_f]Eveline[/name_f] sound beautiful together. Not so much with [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] and [name_f]Delia[/name_f], and [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] doesn’t flow nicely…I’m afraid it is a disaster…LOL!
[name_m]Will[/name_m] she be called [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] or [name_f]Delia[/name_f]? Either way I think you’re overthinking it.
I really like both [name_f]Delia[/name_f] and [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] for you. The suggestion of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is great too. [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] would be lovely, but I think [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] works.
If you truly find [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] to be unusable, and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] doesn’t suit your fancy, perhaps something like [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Enid[/name_f], [name_f]Eunice[/name_f] (I don’t know where all these “E” names are coming from, sorry!), or [name_f]Vera[/name_f] might work. I love [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], but [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] seem to be a little off-kilter.
I don’t see/hear a problem with [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f]. Alternatively, I think [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] would be lovely.
I can definitely sympathize—my husband is totally impossible when it comes to names. He makes fun of everything I suggest!
I love that [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] was his idea, though. And the combo of [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] is gorgeous. You should go with it!
I think you’re over thinking it… [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] didn’t make me think of “disaster”
If he wants to keep the middle… what about:
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilah[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolores[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f]
If you both love [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f], then you should definitely use it! [name_f]Aster[/name_f] is a beautiful name, and [name_f]Delia[/name_f] is the perfect sister name for [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]. The disaster thing didn’t strike me at all - it’s not as though it were [name_m]Des[/name_m] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] or something. Otherwise [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] or [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f] would be good alternatives.
Hey guys! Thank you so much for all the input. After a lot of you giving positive feedback about [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Aster[/name_f], we’re considering it again. We’re also considering [name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] as a potential alternate and [name_f]Inez[/name_f]/[name_f]Ines[/name_f] as a potential name as an international version of [name_f]Agnes[/name_f].
