Pierre Benjamin? Boy due in about 6 weeks! OMG

What do you think? My top two choices for first name are [name]Pierre[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name]. I like [name]Pierre[/name] a bit more but hubby likes [name]Hugo[/name] a bit more. In the end its my choice as I am pregnant, no? [name]Pierre[/name] is better than [name]Hugo[/name] with the surname and sibset.

[name]Benjamin[/name] is my only brother’s first name. I think it is a nice neutral balance for [name]Pierre[/name] which is pretty French. our 2 kids are not named after any family members. I like my brother a lot though and his name too. My HUbby also likes my brother a lot so I think he might like this idea.

If [name]Hugo[/name], I like MN such as [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Pierre[/name] or [name]Zachary[/name]. Also love [name]Xavier[/name] as a FN or MN but not the english pronunciation with the AY sound. I dont love it enough to ‘politely’ explain all day that people must pronounce it in French

I prefer [name]Pierre[/name] to [name]Hugo[/name] and think [name]Pierre[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] sounds good.

I love [name]Pierre[/name], so that gets my vote. [name]Pierre[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] is a fantastic combo!

I prefer [name]Hugo[/name] over [name]Pierre[/name]. While I have an affinity for French names, there’s no reason to give French names to kids who are American and there is a English equivalent, [name]Peter[/name] in this instance. [name]Hugo[/name] [name]Xavier[/name] sounds nice. And this coming from a French person. And I used to know this American person named [name]Pierre[/name], and I have to say, it never caught on very well with his fellow Americans.

I prefer [name]Hugo[/name] to [name]Pierre[/name] because [name]Pierre[/name] is dated, if you are French then I think either is fine, if youre American I say go with [name]Hugo[/name]. Also, [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Pierre[/name] flows better imo.

thanks for all your comments. i’m half american+canadian (i do have some french blood in me, hubby does not) and live in vancouver but i would love to live in montreal which might happen (or france, i lived there for a year but it is hard to go back and live with your whole family) i would also love to live in the US and was thinking of it before college graduation and having the kid(s) but then the 2008 recession happened so i dont think we will live there with the instability of the job market and healthcare (maybe not for everyone, but i dont want to take any risks and we dont have any opportunities). so the kids would not likely live in the US growing up, but possibly English [name]Canada[/name]… but i do get that its very French even for English [name]Canada[/name] (i’ve never met anyone in an English area bearing the name) or if he moved to the US later… not sure what the reaction would be in other English speaking nations (UK,AU,NZ) i’m definitely not a fan of [name]Peter[/name] at all, but [name]Piero[/name] (the italian version) appeals to me however hubby said ppl will think we just made it up by adding an O to [name]Pierre[/name]. PLus then i heard about [name]Pierrot[/name], apparently a famous clown?
anyways i appreciate the comments from everyone. My French-Canadian friend said [name]Pierre[/name] is a total old man name but it is still being used in [name]France[/name] and [name]Quebec[/name] for babies and I just think it sounds very cool whenever i talk to a coworker with that name or something (i work in a canadian call centre) also it sounds fabulous with our last name.

i know [name]Hugo[/name] sounds more of the moment/up and coming so it might be easier for everyone if we go with that

i also 100% love [name]Louis[/name] but is it terrible with our last name? last name is Luu…

Like you, I do not care for [name]Peter[/name] but do love many of the variations. I think [name]Pierce[/name] has come out as my top favorite variation that is accessible in English. I recently did a lot of searching for variants of [name]Peter[/name]. This thread might be useful to you as there are dozens of versions of [name]Peter[/name].

[name]Hugo[/name] is definitely “of the moment” and very handsome name. I don’t love it for some reason, I think it’s just too harsh for me but I would still think it was pretty awesome to meet a [name]Hugo[/name].

Oh dear, I would not do [name]Louis[/name] Luu.

[name]Pierrot[/name] is a famous clown in commedia dell’arte Pierrot - Wikipedia but it’s actually semi-popular. It makes me think of the film “[name]Pierrot[/name] le fou” I know its not fair but I really do think [name]Pierre[/name] and its derivatives seemed silly on babies that arent french. I also agree with your friend [name]Pierre[/name] is an old mans name, Im always surprised when I meet one who isnt at least 30, my mental image is that theyre all over 50 lol.

I think [name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Xavier[/name] are adorable though and encourage you to use them!

Please be fair. You needed some help to get that way.

BTW, I prefer [name]Pierre[/name] to [name]Hugo[/name].

I also went to [name]Pierce[/name] first when I saw these 2 names. (I’ve also seen it spelled [name]Pearce[/name]. I prefer the other spelling, though.) If you’d rather use one of the 2 you mentioned, I would use [name]Pierre[/name].

I like [name]Louis[/name], and I don’t care what the last name is. [name]Louis[/name] Luu… sounds nice to me. If that’s the name you like, then go gor it.
