[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_m]Dickinson[/name_m] is still going strong at the age of 74, she tends to the family as she always has done and will not hear of “slowing down!”
[name_f]Bess[/name_f] and [name_m]Richard[/name_m] Bothwell welcomed a fifth child into their family, a daughter called [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], and [name_f]Bess[/name_f] has enjoyed her continued success as a writer. Her new novel “To Last a Lifetime” is set to be published soon.
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_m]Dickinson[/name_m] did not remarry after the death of [name_u]Jack[/name_u]. She and [name_u]Florence[/name_u] continue to live on the farm.Violet, their eldest daughter has left to work as a kitchen maid in a house in a nearby town.
The farm finally seems to be back on the straight and narrow. [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] miraculously recovered from cephalitis and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] gave birth to another daughter, [name_u]Ruby[/name_u].
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] was able to give [name_m]Fred[/name_m] two children, [name_m]Frank[/name_m] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and they had a few happy years before she eventually succumbed to her tuberculosis. The children have moved into the farm to live with [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and his family, [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_u]Florence[/name_u]. [name_m]Fred[/name_m] sends them what money he can each month.
The Fleury bakery business is thriving and so is the family. [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] had three more children, [name_f]Hortense[/name_f] who is known as Sissi, [name_f]Maude[/name_f] and [name_m]Roland[/name_m], and they complete their family of seven!

It was a decade full of tragedy for the Tugwell’s. It saw the passing of [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and the family matriarch, [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] had recovered from whooping cough but later died from cephalitis and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] died from consumption. [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], unable to cope with the new responsibilities as head of the family, left the family lodgings. He eventually found work as a carpenter using the skills he had picked up from watching his maternal grandfather at work. He now lives in the same village as his fiancée [name_f]Cora[/name_f], the daughter of a coal miner. They hope to marry soon. At the time of her death from old age, [name_f]Mary[/name_f] Tugwell was looking after her grandson [name_u]Sidney[/name_u]. With Arthur’s leave and the death of both of their parents, [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] Tugwell, the only remaining daughter has taken up laundry as a means to earn a living. She is now Sidney’s legal guardian and hopes her new business venture will provide them enough money to pay the rent. [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] however, at age 13, has decided to leave school. He is currently looking for apprenticeship positions or some type of work to help his sister and keep the family afloat.
[name_u]John[/name_u] Renshaw Sr recovered from his pneumonia and there was happy news for [name_u]John[/name_u] Renshaw [name_m]Jr[/name_m] as his father offered him a place in the family business. They now work alongside each other as business partners. [name_u]John[/name_u] [name_m]Jr[/name_m] also married the middle class daughter of an accountant, [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] Baynes, and she gave birth to two sons, [name_u]John[/name_u] III and [name_u]Wallace[/name_u]. The other marriage this decade was [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] to the young politician [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Lennox[/name_u].
Once again, Marsham and Sons greengrocers is continuing to thrive. Now that they are older, [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] has been showing [name_u]Robert[/name_u] and [name_u]George[/name_u] the ins and outs of the business ready for when they can take it over. Also this decade, [name_f]Alice[/name_f] became engaged to doctor [name_u]Edward[/name_u] Smithson. They are eagerly awaiting the wedding.

For the Auld side of the family, there was sadness when grandmother [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] Auld died from pneumonia.
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_m]Lyles[/name_m] added four more children to their family, [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], [name_u]John[/name_u] and [name_f]Muriel[/name_f].
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] Auld graduated university and is now a successful architect, currently working on the designs for a new department store. He married [name_f]Trudy[/name_f] [name_u]March[/name_u] and they have two daughters, [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
It was happier news for [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] Auld after the death of [name_u]Edward[/name_u] last decade. She is engaged to Dr [name_u]Henry[/name_u] [name_m]Carrick[/name_m], a respected physician who works at the largest voluntary hospital in the city. Once they marry, she and [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] plan to move in with him. For now they will continue to live with Lucy’s father-in-law, [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] Auld.
Finally, [name_u]Rose[/name_u] Hardcastle gave birth to a son and then a daughter. [name_u]Charles[/name_u] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f], for now, complete their family.

It was a slightly more optimistic decade for the [name_m]Pyke[/name_m] family. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_u]Francis[/name_u] had three children, [name_m]Alfred[/name_m], [name_u]Henry[/name_u] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], although [name_u]Francis[/name_u] is currently sick with pneumonia.
[name_u]Walter[/name_u] moved to the next village, known for its coal mines. Despite being a notoriously physically hard job to do, he knew he needed to make a living. He signed up and is now a coal miner. He is also currently engaged to the daughter of his boss, [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] Dawkins so things aren’t all bad!
[name_m]Ernest[/name_m] knew he needed to make a living too. He travelled for days until he reached a town with a large shipping port. He found lodgings there and eventually got a job as a dock worker, unloading the containers from the large ships. Like his brother, he too got engaged this decade. His fiancé is [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] [name_m]Randall[/name_m], the daughter of a sailor.
