🎠 pip's return! gender neutral full name?

okay so! hello! it’s been a while!

this paragraph is a ramble but gives backstory, you don't have to read it

i am going by pip irl for about 50% of what i do (school + friends, but not home, choir, or climbing) and i’m still a teenager so i feel like pip is okay for me at the moment, but i want a more full version of it that’s still gender neutral for more formal things when i’m older. pip was originally what i picked because it was bestowed upon me by the teenberries and all of my friends when i first told them said that pip suited me so well, so this is pretty much set in stone. my given name also starts with p but is a bit feminine for me and just doesn’t feel right which is why i’m changing it.

gender neutral names that can be long for pip is kind of a hard ask, and a name i’ve already vetoed is peregrine, it’s so not me that i thought i’d clear that first. i also was considering pipaluk but i’m not greenlandic and also it’s not the same i sound which doesn’t really matter i suppose, but mostly the origins was the conflict for this. i also was worried it would read as feminine.

aside from that, i don’t really have any ideas but i’d like to keep the p first initial because i love my initials.

physical + personality description, very rambly

i’m a white teenager from the usa. i’m about 5’3", with short curly dark brown hair, shoulder length if i stretch the curls but it’s a lot shorter curly - think 3a when styled. i have broad shoulders for my size. i also have green eyes with a brown ring (i promise they’re not hazel, it’s straight up different colors). the only piercings i have are normal ear piercings. i’m generally wearing something more feminine, but i love masc outfits too, i just don’t have much in terms of that. i love bright colors and sometimes i’ll wear my own handmade garments, at the moment always crochet, the dress my mom and i made when i was six doesn’t fit anymore.

i’m generally described as bubbly and energetic until i’m not. i consider myself more introverted (i can’t go out with friends more than one day in a row without feeling exhausted) however people who don’t know me well will see me as more extroverted because i tend to be loud (once i’m comfortable) and i know lots of people. my favorite color is purple. i sing in a choir, play guitar, and i am learning viola at school. i played alto sax last year at school and i’m taking it again next year. i consider myself to be a music nerd, as does my strings teacher (highest compliment, she loves me). music theory is an interest of mine, and i am also a climber, not competitive, just for fun (v4-5 bouldering, 5.11a top rope). i have two dogs named jellybean and burger, and i named jellybean when we got her when i was seven. i’m also borderline a part of stage crew at school, i don’t really work shows (busy schedule) but i do lighting hangs and i’ll usher for shows when i have time.

@wishmay said to say i have a good sense of humor but this is debatable.

i am so sorry for forcing you to read all of that

and just a heads up, i am not great about responding to each message (it scares me) but i will read them all for sure!

[name_m]Piano[/name_m]: since you’re a music nerd.

[name_f]Piaget[/name_f]: it has an interesting sound! (it would be too tied to the educational theorist for me, though).

[name_m]Or[/name_m], how about [name_m]Jupiter[/name_m] (if you want something a bit more out there) or [name_f]Juniper[/name_f] (for something a bit more mainstream)? ETA: sorry, just realised you want to keep the P initial!

don’t worry about it lol
i will admit i could see myself maybe as a juniper or jupiter and i’m so sad about the initial thing! i will definitely keep them in the back of my mind though just in case :heart_hands:

I feel like [name_m]Pip[/name_m] is one of those names that just works as a nickname for anything! Especially anything that already starts with a P! (Including your birth name, which is a great jumping off point. :two_hearts:)

The first thing that came to mind is [name_f]Padget[/name_f] / [name_f]Paget[/name_f]! So lively and full of vim. Perfectly gender-neutral, too.

More ideas…
[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] (a good ol’ classic)
[name_m]Pippin[/name_m] (and another good ol’ classic)
[name_m]Phoenix[/name_m]
[name_m]Prosper[/name_m]
[name_m]Pacey[/name_m]
[name_m]Perry[/name_m]

[name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear you’ve found a nickname that works for you! (and zero pressure to reply to this comment - whatever makes you comfortable)

For [name_m]Pip[/name_m], I think most P names could work, but I’ll suggest:

[name_m]Parker[/name_m]
[name_f]Pascale[/name_f]
[name_f]Presley[/name_f]
Pemberly
[name_f]Peridot[/name_f]
[name_m]Purcell[/name_m]
[name_m]Pruitt[/name_m]
[name_m]Perrin[/name_m]
[name_m]Percy[/name_m] / [name_m]Percie[/name_m] / [name_m]Percey[/name_m]

This is contrary, but I’m of the opinion that you should use [name_m]Pip[/name_m] as a full name, if there isn’t any name that is obviously enough connected to [name_m]Pip[/name_m], and you actually like enough to use maybe 10-20% of the time. I wonder if giving yourself a more elaborate middle name would help you feel more balanced with [name_m]Pip[/name_m] as you’ll have the big formal name to pull out on special occasions. It likely would be easier to explain to people that “I changed my name to Pip”, than something like “I changed my name to [name_m]Phoenix[/name_m], but I exclusively go by Pip”.

I agree with Katie’s suggestion to just use [name_m]Pip[/name_m]! It even has the literary connection of [name_m]Pip[/name_m] in Great Expectations, so I wouldn’t be weirded out by hearing it.

[name_f]Pepper[/name_f]? [name_m]Or[/name_m], if the PP initials aren’t essential, [name_f]Ripley[/name_f]?
