Just trying to expand my pool of names, wondering if you could “sell” a name (or two) that you love and think doesn’t get the attention it deserves.
Mine at the moment would be Ursula. Little Mermaid did her a dirty, because it’s actually (well, imo) a really satisfying word to say; it has dark and light elements; it’s bookish and clever but cheerful and slightly naive, it can also give off worldly and international on a certain person; and Ursie/Urs/Oosh is as sweet as Elsie/Els/insert quirky nn etc in my mind. Plus you have Bear as a term of endearment.
I have inserted Cordélie in my list one week ago. I find it as beautiful as a poem, it reminds me of a Medieval ballad. It is delicately [name_m]French[/name_m].
Ooh, I love this idea! There’s a lot, so I’ll just do two for the girls, and two for the boys! They’re all names that I both love and think could be appealing to plenty of others on NB.
Cosmina has a lot of potential, I think It has the sweetest nicknames, from Cosy to Mina to Coco, a beautiful meaning, and it’s really easy to pronounce! It kind of reminds me of Cosette and Wilhelmina mixed together, and both are rather loved on nameberry!
I’m always surprised that I never see Nephele on here, since Greek girl names are pretty popular! I think it sounds really gorgeous, and you could either get the more vintage-sounding Neffie/Effie as a nickname, the darling Nell, or the cool Ellie.
For the boys, Sorin comes to mind first - Soren is really popular on here, so I could see this one having the same appeal - plus, the “sun” meaning is super sweet
Rosen feels really on trend, with the cool nickname Ro and the -en ending. It reminds me of Ronan, but with a more unisex feel which I know is also appreciated by a lot of users. And the two different connections to nature that it has are a lovely bonus!
I really like these names @tallemaja - and hadn’t consciously known any of them, except [name_m]Rosen[/name_m]. [name_f]Cosmina[/name_f] is such a delightful name, I like it better than [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] because it gives “Mina”. Need to think more about [name_f]Nephele[/name_f]. [name_m]Sorin[/name_m] is easier in a way than [name_m]Soren[/name_m] - more straightforward to say and seems more obviously masc. Thanks!
I do think it’s very much [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] [name_f]Presley[/name_f] for most (and the new movie didn’t help, I imagine) but she’s so attractive! i think she fits in line with the “L” heavy names that are so trendy i adore the stretchy nickname [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] for her, and [name_f]Prisca[/name_f] is so attractive <3 she’s very purpley and springlike!
It has so many great characteristics!
-A sweet meaning, “little [name_f]Diana[/name_f]”
-A floral connection, it’s a type of lily, also known as the flax lily and the blueberry lily
-Cute nicknames like [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Nella[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_m]Dell[/name_m], [name_f]Della[/name_f], & [name_f]Lily[/name_f]!
Definitely agree with [name_f]Ursula[/name_f]! I immediately think of [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid. But when I think of the name itself it has a lot of qualities I like actually.
Mine would be [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. A lot of people think of it as an old lady name or if you’re my husband you think of the whale from Spongebob. But it’s such a beautiful name! It has the whole gem thing going on similar to [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] or [name_f]Emerald[/name_f]. It has a vintage feel which is very in these days. It isn’t overdone or overly popular. It has such a sing song feel to it! I love it.
I was going to say [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] but you already put it perfectly, so I’ll just second your comment! (it’s on my list for next baby if she’s a girl and I love your nn idea of [name_f]Lilla[/name_f]! I’ve always liked Pria also.)
I 100% agree with [name_f]Ursula[/name_f] , she’s so pretty and I wish I could use it in the future but the little mermaid relation is too strong for me…
[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] - I feel like a lot of people consider this name to be too strong or a tongue twister to pronounce but she is amazing to me. I like the spelling, pronunciation, the flower is super pretty and great nickname potential… what’s not to love!
[name_f]Artemis[/name_f] - This is another that I think can be a hit or miss for most. But great nickname potential as well!
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] - [name_m]Can[/name_m] be considered a bit dated but I think it’s more of a classic name that ages gracefully.
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f] - UGH!!! This is actually my car’s name and I adore it. I also like [name_f]Mona[/name_f] .
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] - [name_f]Vintage[/name_f] chic. Heavily tied to the video game series but I don’t think that’s a bad thing.
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] -
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] -
[name_f]Jolene[/name_f] - so timeless and pretty!
ok, I am definitely biased on this one because it’s my nieces name but
[name_f]Morticia[/name_f], I am not going to lie, I was slightly surprised when her name was announced but now that she is almost 8 months old she fits her name. it’s not really that gothic to me now because my niece (who we affectionately call Tish) is full of sunshine and rainbows and is one of the happiest babies I know. [name_f]Morticia[/name_f] needs more love
I (finally) watched the remake of [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_m]Green[/name_m] Gables (Anne with an E) the other day - and there’s a classmate [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] nn [name_f]Prissy[/name_f] which made me see the name in a new light!
[name_f]Mitzi[/name_f]- cutesy vintage nicknames for girls are big right now and I’m surprised this hasn’t caught on more. With that zippy z she has an extra bit of sass but still feels accessible.
it really is, their other choices were [name_f]Piper[/name_f] and [name_f]Electra[/name_f], I thought they were going to go with [name_f]Electra[/name_f] and my grandma thought that they were going to go with [name_f]Piper[/name_f]. it kind of started a mini war in the family when they chose [name_f]Morticia[/name_f]
Fab list! I’m a big [name_f]Jolene[/name_f] fan too - both because of the song and because I love slightly harsh or unsettling names, same reason I’m drawn to [name_f]Esther[/name_f].
Family wars (lol)! I prefer [name_f]Morticia[/name_f] to [name_f]Electra[/name_f], hope OK to say. Would have picked [name_f]Piper[/name_f] of the tree but [name_f]Morticia[/name_f] is clearly going to stand out and it’ll age well.
