[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!
As a lot of you know, [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] has been my favourite name for essentially all of my time on Nameberry, but Iāve been struggling to find the perfect sister for her.
[name_f]My[/name_f] best ideas are [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] & [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] āJill & Kateā, and [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Teresa[/name_f] āJill & Tessā. However, Iām really looking for some fresh ideas.
Soā¦ pitch me your favourite sister (one name) for [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] in this post, and tell me why you chose it!
Some criteria to consider (you donāt have to, but just some things I thought of)
Width of letters; e.g. [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] has quite condensed letters, whereas a name like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] has quite large letters in comparison.
Syllables
Similar vibe
Potential for nickname (E.g. [name_f]Jill[/name_f] & [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Jill[/name_f] & Tess)
Looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with!
i absolutely love [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], and am so happy to see that someone else does too! i think her perfect sister isā¦
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f]
she has that same timelessness of [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], and has been gathering dust as well. with the rise of [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], however, i think she has a fighting chance! [name_u]Rae[/name_u] makes the sweetest nickname; i should know (itās my middle name), and itās oh so cottagecore and gentle with the meaning āeweā.
I really like [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]! Itās unexpected but still fits in with popular names of today.
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgette[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgette[/name_f] has the same sort of vintage vibes that [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] has. It isnāt overly used but isnāt so old that you only picture it as a grandma. [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] or [name_f]Etta[/name_f] would make very cute nicknames for it. The J and G have similar sounds that they pair well nicely but the rest of the names are different so they donāt feel matchy.
Over time, you have really helped me see the beauty in [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f]!
I am going to pitchā¦ [name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
She is as spunky, sweet and as timeless as Jill; an underused classic ready for revival. In my eyes, she is visually appealing and rounded (like your example of Emma) which balances out the tall, condensed letters of [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]. They have the same amount of syllables, leading to a pleasing sound when said together.
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f] has a host of nicknames to choose from. Here are my favourites and whyā¦ [name_u]Roe[/name_u] - Choppy, short and cool like your example of [name_f]Kate[/name_f] while being intuitive and versatile (Ro, [name_f]Row[/name_f], Rose). [name_f]Jill[/name_f] & [name_u]Roe[/name_u] are crisp and lovely! [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] - Hear me out on this one! Sheās retro, spunky, has been garnering dust for quite the while now. This means sheās ready for revival! [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u] gives me the same 80s, sweet-girl vibe that [name_f]Jill[/name_f] does. [name_f]Jill[/name_f] & [name_u]Ronnie[/name_u]: a dynamic duo!
Some others include [name_u]Moe[/name_u], [name_f]Mona[/name_f], [name_f]Nona[/name_f], [name_f]Rainey[/name_f], [name_u]Romy[/name_u] or [name_u]Rome[/name_u].
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f] is drawing on the driveway with chalk, blowing bubbles, watering a rainbow of flowers - everything [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] conjures as well! [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] & [name_f]Ramona[/name_f]: I think Iād melt if I met sisters with these names.
I feel like the perfect sister for [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] would beā¦
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]
I love how timeless [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] feels and I feel like she matches Jillianās spunk and sweetness. For nicknames I like [name_f]Nattie[/name_f] or [name_u]Tallie[/name_u] with [name_f]Jill[/name_f]!
I like [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] (and Jill) a lot, and I think you already have 2 perfect sisters for her in [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Teresa[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tess[/name_f]!
Iāll offer you another option with [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] nn [name_f]Beth[/name_f].
Both names give me a similar feeling of being established names, not necessarily tied to any one time period (but both sharing a similar trajectory in terms of their use over time). They are names that you can take seriously, but which both sound sweet on a little girl. They are smart and capable names, sounding fresh and crisp, but with an undertone of warmth as well, especially once you consider [name_f]Jill[/name_f] and [name_f]Beth[/name_f].
[name_f]Jill[/name_f] has that wonderful storybook quality of a perfect nickname, and [name_f]Beth[/name_f] matches almost as well. Of course, you could consider [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Beth[/name_f], but [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] feels much more in sync with [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] than the regal, classic [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
Without looking at the extra criteria, Iām going to go withā¦
[name_f]Lois[/name_f]!
It gives me similar vibes as [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]:
āslightly-dated-but-in-a-cute-and-cool-wayā
classic but with spark
strong but sweet, feminine but not frilly
a hint of the storybook/fairy-tale about them but still grounded
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Lois[/name_f] / [name_f]Lois[/name_f] and [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] sound pleasing to me, and I like the nickname potential of [name_f]Lolo[/name_f], [name_f]Lissy[/name_f], [name_u]Issy[/name_u], [name_f]Lola[/name_f]?
Sorryā¦ just realised you asked for one only so from my list Iām going to pick [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. [name_f]Jill[/name_f] & [name_f]Sally[/name_f] are absolutely perfect in terms of vibe match, imo. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] would be a very close second and I like the cutesy matching initials.
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] is sweet, classic, sensible, a bit shy. Purposefully unfashionable - I wouldnāt pair her with a trendy name or anything flashy.
I think the ideal sister for [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] would thus be [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]. Sensible, a bit dusty, three syllables long, with the potential for a nursery rhyme nickname (Tabby). Much like [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]. Theyāre also both 7 letters long and share a short i sound.
Jillian is awesome! And I love your ideas so far. I think the perfect sister isā¦
Harriet
I feel like Harriet fits all of your criteria. She has 3 syllables like Jillian, she has a spunky, cottagecore vibe, and she could be Hattie (I adore Jill and Hattie). Honestly, I donāt have too many other reasons besides her meeting the things you listed, but Jillian and Harriet just sound like sisters to me.

[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Francine[/name_f] (Fran, Frannie)
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] (Claud)
[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] (Dottie, Dora)
This is fun! [name_f]My[/name_f] contenders, with your criteria in mind, were [name_f]Serena[/name_f], [name_u]Ariel[/name_u], [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u], [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] and [name_u]Sierra[/name_u]. Based on your ideas of [name_f]Teresa[/name_f] and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] I narrowed them down to [name_f]Serena[/name_f], [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] and [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] to share more of that bordering classic name feel. I like [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] with [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], but I donāt find her to have an obvious nickname so Iāll eliminate her for that reason. That leaves
I do slightly prefer [name_f]Serena[/name_f] here as I feel it has more elegance where as [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] is a little more country, and [name_f]Rena[/name_f] is such a fun, vintage nickname to compliment [name_f]Jill[/name_f].
