Placenta Previa?

At my 20 week scan I was told I have complete placenta previa (placenta covering cervix). I have a follow up ultrasound in a couple of days but our doctor told us that a complete is unlikely to move much. This means I will likely have a c-section at 37 weeks if everything goes well up until that point. I’ve read a forum where most of the women had bleeds starting at 28 weeks, some maybe later…but then I also read that only about 5% of women actually bleed with previa. I’ve been told to chill with any lifting, strenuous activity, and to stay in bed as much as possible, but that just isn’t realistic with a 17 month old running around…

Has anyone else had a complete or partial previa? I’m hoping that there’s some chance the placenta moved up and away from my cervix but I’m also preparing myself in case it hasn’t.

One of my dearest friends with her current pregnancy also discovered at her 20 week scan, however hers was partial. A couple months later luckily it has moved enough that a cesarean will no longer be necessary. Good luck. It is very difficult to rest with a toddler but take care of yourself and baby as much as possible. It must be a worry for you.

My sister had this with her daughter. They did put her on partial bedrest bc she bled some. But her baby was completely fine and her placenta did move (even though the dr was convinced it would not move) so she gave birth naturally.

I had partial with my first - it moved enough for me to give birth naturally. It’s crazy how little out of the way it needs to be. We’re talking 2-3 cm. A lot can happen in 20 weeks - don’t give up hope just yet. Take good care of you, which ultimately means taking good care of babe!

When I went for my 20 week scan with my 1st they said I had placenta privia and that it looked like it was covering the cervical OS. Like you I read up on the Internet and there seemed to be a lot of stories of bleeds, etc and it freaked me out.
My midwifes didn’t say I needed to take it especially easy but I did just in case.
I returned for a scan at 32 weeks and they said it had moved slightly but not enough to rule out a c-section.
Then I went back at 36 weeks and it far enough up that I was cleared for natural birth.
As previous posters have said a lot can happen in 16 weeks. I spent the best part of that time thinking I was gonna end up with a section at 37 weeks and I ended up giving birth naturally 1 day shy of 42 weeks!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] take it as easy as you can, see your Dr/MW immediately should you have any bleeding and relax because you can’t control it anyway.
