Planning my Kids Names

Hello! [name_f]My[/name_f] DH and I are expecting our first child. We don’t know the gender yet but we are trying to figure out name options. We know we only want 2 kids max so we’re just trying to think of scenarios. Please let us know which names out of GG, BB, & BG/GB you like best!!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] a fair warning my DH and I like unique names. We also really like spunky names for girls so it’s okay if you’re not a huge fan, we have accepted that some people will not like our options. [name_m]Just[/name_m] choose your favorite one or scroll on please:)

2 Girls Options:
Option 1- [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] & [name_f]Mazie[/name_f]
Option 2- [name_u]Sky[/name_u] & [name_u]Ray[/name_u] (yes [name_u]Ray[/name_u] for a girl, it is a family surname)

2 Boys Options:
Option 1- [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] & [name_u]Ozzy[/name_u]
Option 2- [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] & Skylen (The root ‘Sky’ has a big meaning in the family but we can’t name him/her Skyler)

1 of Each Option:
Option 1- [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] & [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u]
Option 2- [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] & [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u]
Option 3- [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] & [name_u]Sky[/name_u]

This is tricky!

I don’t love super matchy so my instinct would be: [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] & [name_u]Ray[/name_u] and [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] & [name_u]Sky[/name_u] (I would go [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] but am still on board ;)) to mix up the rhythm and’s sounds. If I had to choose, would be [name_u]Sky[/name_u] & [name_u]Ray[/name_u] (and use nn Raysie for [name_u]Ray[/name_u] and maybe nn Bluey for [name_u]Sky[/name_u] or something sweet like that).

For the boys, [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] & Skylen for me.

Mixed, [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] & [name_u]Sky[/name_u] (or else [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] & Sky), I just don’t warm to [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u], possibly be I’m Australian (Aussie), but I also just like this more tailored set of names together.

[name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] and [name_f]Mazie[/name_f]
[name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] and [name_u]Ozzy[/name_u]
[name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] and [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u]

Honestly I think you have a lot of great options but my favorite for you isn’t listed (sorry if you’ve already considered it)!

Ozzy/Ozzie and [name_u]Sky[/name_u], regardless of gender. Both are gender neutral and spunky and beautiful, and it seems like you love both given that [name_u]Sky[/name_u] has significance and [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] and [name_u]Ozzy[/name_u] are on both your lists. I feel like they make a perfect pair!

If that’s not an option then I like [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] + Ozzy/Ozzie and [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] + [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] best! [name_u]Sky[/name_u] and [name_u]Ray[/name_u] just feel a little cheesy to me (as in the sky and a sunray) and I just prefer [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] to [name_m]Ledger[/name_m].

[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] & [name_u]Rae[/name_u] (I would spell it this way)

[name_m]Ledger[/name_m] & Skylen

Ledge & [name_u]Skye[/name_u] (I would spell it this way for a girl)

Congrats on your first pregnancy!

gg: sky + ray - love this one, here’s to ray for a girl

bb: ledger + skylen - unique but cool. i love oaklen, but it feels a little unbalanced with ozzy, like a fully name vs a short nickname. i assume oaklen and skylen are too matchy?

gb: ledger + sky - ozzie comment remains, though slightly hippocritical as sky is just as short :joy: would oaklen and mazie be an option? they have similar vibes to me.

I like [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m], I don’t think I’ve heard it before. Have to vote for it with my favorite Ozzie/Ozzy.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Here are my thoughts-

G/G:

[name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] & Mazie-I like these together, but I’m more of a cute gender bender nn with a full feminine full name kind of person. [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] feels too boyish on its own…but I can see it being super cute as maybe a nn for [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]? [name_f]Odessa[/name_f]? [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]? These are all kind of a stretch, but maybe cute? Is [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] said Mah-zee (as in mad, but with a ‘z’.) [name_u]Or[/name_u] May-zee. I like both, but prefer the latter. Also, kind of like it as a nn. Basically any ‘M’ name works! I prefer more classics like [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] or Maureen; probably not so much your style.

[name_u]Sky[/name_u] & Ray-These are cool! They both remind me of the sun; you know…like sun rays. I think that [name_u]Ray[/name_u] is unisex enough, and nice that it’s a family name.

Boy/Boy:

[name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] & Ozzy-I still like [name_u]Ozzy[/name_u] better for a nn; love [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] for a boy! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you? [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] I’m not sure…I like [name_u]Oak[/name_u] & [name_u]Oakley[/name_u]. Maybe [name_u]Oakland[/name_u] would be good. I just think [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] feels sort of made-up-y. It’s not the worst name ever; I prefer other [name_u]Oak[/name_u] names. Either way, these are fun for brothers. They sound cute, but sometimes I do feel like it’s best to give each their own initial.

[name_m]Ledger[/name_m] & Skylen-Something about [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] doesn’t sound pretty to me. I don’t think it’s very name-y; I just think of a list. Skylen is okay; I prefer [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] (this spelling) or just [name_u]Sky[/name_u] for a boy is nice.

B/G:

[name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] & Ozzie-I feel the same here as I do for brothers with these names.

[name_m]Ledger[/name_m] & Ozzie-Again, not big on [name_m]Ledger[/name_m].

[name_m]Ledger[/name_m] & Sky-Still loving [name_u]Sky[/name_u].

[name_u]Sky[/name_u] & [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] (G/B) are my favorites if I can mix & match!

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] my rambling helps.

2 Girls:
I really like [name_u]Sky[/name_u] & [name_u]Ray[/name_u] together (and separately!). [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] & [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] are cool too, but I have difficulty picturing middle-aged women named [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] and [name_f]Mazie[/name_f]. However, [name_u]Sky[/name_u] and [name_u]Ray[/name_u] are both names that I think suit someone of any age.

2 Boys:
I think the name [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] sounds pretty sweet, but I still don’t like [name_u]Ozzy[/name_u] for an adult lol. Would you consider [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] & Skylen? To me, [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] is just ehhh. Not terrible, but forever tied to [name_m]Heath[/name_m] [name_m]Ledger[/name_m].

1 Boy/1 [name_f]Girl[/name_f]:
[name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] again for the boy. Would you consider [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] & [name_u]Sky[/name_u]?

Overall:
I think with the importance of [name_u]Sky[/name_u] in your family, you should incorporate it with any gender combo- plus it is a sweet name. I also don’t think there is a problem with the name Sky/Skye for a boy, though I do prefer it for a girl. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite of your combinations is [name_u]Sky[/name_u] & [name_u]Ray[/name_u].

Your names are very cool!

[name_f]My[/name_f] faves are:

[name_u]Sky[/name_u] and [name_u]Ray[/name_u]

[name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] and [name_u]Ozzy[/name_u]

[name_m]Ledger[/name_m] and [name_u]Sky[/name_u] (though [name_u]Ozzy[/name_u] and [name_u]Sky[/name_u] would be :pinched_fingers: )

Thanks everyone for your opinions & advice!! We are open to switching the names up and I really like some of the combinations you’ve recommended. Ozzie/Ozzy is one of those names that we absolutely love but does come with downfalls. We were worried it wouldn’t grow with them when they get older and the Australian connection isn’t great though we’re in [name_u]America[/name_u]. We love [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] though and I’m surprised that most people aren’t crazy about it. Would it change your mind if he mainly went by the nn LJ? [name_f]My[/name_f] DH also recommended to me last night the girl name [name_u]Remi[/name_u], I LOVE this name. What are your thoughts? More than likely it would be [name_u]Sky[/name_u] & [name_u]Remi[/name_u]. After so many connections with the name [name_u]Ray[/name_u] to sun rays, I would rather save it for a middle name!

I agree with whoever mentioned that most (all?) of your name choices are gender free/gender neutral, so I wouldn’t stress too much about the gender combinations, just go with options you love. [name_u]Sky[/name_u] and [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] for a boy/girl or girl/boy both work great. [name_u]Ray[/name_u] and [name_u]Sky[/name_u] for boy/girl, boy/boy, girl/girl or girl/boy work great. [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] and [name_u]Ray[/name_u], [name_u]Sky[/name_u] and [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m], [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] and [name_u]Ray[/name_u], etc. they all work. The only outlier is [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] - which is a more feminine name and probably not very comfortable for a boy (although fashion does change regularly - I met a boy called [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] the other day, presumably spelled different though).

Your naming style is not particularly similar to mine, though I like the vibe and I think they’re great names in their own right - I like [name_u]Ray[/name_u] for a girl as well! The only name I’m personally really not a fan of is [name_m]Ledger[/name_m]. To me it sounds like naming a baby Table, Chair or Tablet. [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] reminds me of having to write out ledgers for accounting modules at university, and the nickname Ledge just sounds like the word; window ledge.

But that’s just my opinion. All the other names sounds lovely to me - and just because I’m not keen on [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] doesn’t mean it can’t be a great name choice for your family. But [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u], [name_f]Mazie[/name_f], [name_u]Ray[/name_u], [name_u]Sky[/name_u], [name_m]Oaklen[/name_m] - they’re all very sweet and fit nicely together regardless of gender.

I really like [name_u]Remi[/name_u] - it’s arty, zippy, pretty and confident! It would have to be my fave if your girl names suggested. I would have chosen [name_u]Sky[/name_u] with a [name_u]Skye[/name_u] spelling.

I like [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] (though [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] & [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] would remind me of [name_m]Heath[/name_m] [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] or “Aussie legend” - ledge can be short for legend here). I can see how others find it a bit too literal because it’s not super established - [name_u]Bridger[/name_u], [name_u]Brooks[/name_u], [name_u]Ryder[/name_u], [name_m]Gunnar[/name_m] etc better known as first names.

2 Girls Options:

I prefer Option 2 - [name_u]Sky[/name_u] and [name_u]Ray[/name_u]. I pick that because I feel [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] and [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] are way too matchy-matchy. Although the more I think about it, I like the names [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] and [name_f]Mazie[/name_f] individually better, and they will be individuals. So hard to decide!

2 Boys Options:

I’m going with Option 2. [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] could grow on me, and I find Skylen very interesting. I’m not a fan of the [name_u]Oak[/name_u]- trend right now.

1 of Each Option:

Option 3 I think. [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] & [name_u]Sky[/name_u]. But I do like [name_m]Ledger[/name_m] & [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] as well.
