Planning on using a nickname unrelated to legal name

I’m not pregnant, but just asking for everyone’s general opinion. I adore the name [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] for a little girl, i think it’s so sweet and reminds me of ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ which i love. The thing is, i feel as if it’s too nickname-y to use as a full name but i just don’t love any of the ways in to get the nickname. I don’t like any names with ‘sun’ or ‘son’ in and i don’t like any names that have the meaning sun enough to use them. Could i just use a name i love like [name_f]Mallory[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] or [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] and just call them [name_f]Sunny[/name_f]? Is [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] strong enough to use alone?

I am a full supporter of using nicknames that are not at all related to legal names!! Nicknames are much more of a feeling thing to me. I know several people who are called Sunny/Sunshine/variants because of their sunny personalities, not their names. That being said, [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] is definitely established enough to be used on its own. I think either option is a great choice!

I think it can definitely work as an unrelated nickname, however it’s a bit hit or miss whether it’d be a nickname to actually stick and be used throughout your daughter’s life, or if it’d end up just an “at home” nickname by the time she’s in school. For that reason I’d personally use [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] itself, I don’t think it’s too nicknamey! If [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Fanny[/name_f], [name_f]Lainey[/name_f], [name_f]Lani[/name_f], [name_f]Penny[/name_f] and all those similar-sounding names can work, why not [name_f]Sunny[/name_f]? I know plenty of adult women with cute nickname names who wear them very well.

I think [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] could work as a ‘general’ nickname - a bit like [name_f]Scout[/name_f], [name_m]Sonny[/name_m], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] etc.

Still, I think [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] totally works as a standalone! I’ve known a [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f] ‘Sunny’, a [name_f]Moon[/name_f], multiple Honeys - works well to me
