but this time, I feel like I’m actually making real progress! I’ve been SO picky about [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] over the years that combo-making has been nearly impossible. I think I have it down to two to about 4 I like ([name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Gavin[/name_m], and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u]), but [name_m]Gavin[/name_m]'s probably out, because it’s the name of my coworker’s son, and I don’t want to open that can of worms, haha, and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]‘s my favorite boys’ name, so I’d likely not hide it behind [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].
So I’ve started looking at second middle names. So far I have these:
I love the idea of a bird name with [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], particularly a rarer one, to give [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] a little life (my grandma LOVED birdwatching, so a bird name seems like the perfect way to honor her. [name_f]Oriole[/name_f] was just my favorite one so far. Something like [name_f]Oriole[/name_f], [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], etc., seem to honor her much more than [name_m]Hawk[/name_m] or [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], as she loved the little birds, but I’d be open to either). I like the idea of a more snappy, short family name (like [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_u]Grey[/name_u], [name_u]Beck[/name_u], etc.) to go with [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u].
I know they’re not terribly exciting, but I love them, anyhow. Any favorites from the ones I posted, or any suggestions, particularly of avian names? (I don’t expect you to come up with names from my family tree, lol.)
I love the flow and sound of [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u]. I personally feel neutral about [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] but this combo is very handsome and makes me kinda like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].
Have you considered [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_f]Starling[/name_f]? Sounds dignified and royal. Not a bird but I also love [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_u]Sterling[/name_u].
@[name_u]Jean[/name_u] - thank you! I think [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] is my default [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] full combo, too. I seem to [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] with most of my boys’ names, though. I do like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_u]Elias[/name_u] a lot, too, though. [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] was funny enough my first bus driver’s name in elementary school–he was a fun and cool guy, but I’m not sure I would consider us close enough that I would want to name my son after him. I love the idea of [name_f]Starling[/name_f], but I really only like it for a girl. I suppose I’m rather picky about my bird names?
ETA: Just saw your second post–I am super in love with Thomas Benjamin Swift and Thomas Benjamin Heron! I’m not sure of the flow of Benjamin Heron, but my little second cousin would get SUCH a kick out of having a distant cousin named after him, and I love Thomas Benjamin. (I tried Thomas Benjamin Robin, but I wasn’t convinced? Maybe you just need to convince me, haha.)
@oliveshoot - thank you! I hadn’t thought of the bird tie-in with [name_u]Finch[/name_u]–I was just thinking of [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] haha. [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] certainly is intriguing! I can’t decide if I like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] or [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] better. I suppose I’ll have to mull it over.
Anyone else want to chime in? I’m finding that, so far, [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_f]Oriole[/name_f] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] Swift are my favorites, but, minus a second middle, I love [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] almost the same amount. I guess I’m just not loving the full combos for [name_u]Noah[/name_u] quite as much? I’m not quite sure how to fix that, though. The family names I usually play with are [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m] (or any other variant of [name_m]John[/name_m]), [name_m]Robert[/name_m]/[name_u]Robin[/name_u], bird names, [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] names (my sister and I both share [name_m]French[/name_m] [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] names, so I always love adding [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] names to my list), [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], [name_u]Beck[/name_u], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]Lion[/name_m], [name_m]Eli[/name_m] names (for my sister’s middle, [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]), [name_u]Kieran[/name_u]/[name_m]Ciaran[/name_m], or the initials LB, [name_f]AG[/name_f], [name_m]JR[/name_m], KA, RM, NR, and RE, although most of those initials sets don’t really work with [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] (I suppose I could do an “R” name for [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u], though? [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_u]Reid[/name_u]? [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_m]Roarke[/name_m]? My two favorite “R” names are [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], but I’d like to split up all the two-syllable names with [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] and a two-syllable surname.
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] sounds so beautiful.
My favourite little bird names are [name_u]Finch[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], Serin, [name_u]Dove[/name_u] and [name_u]Robin[/name_u].
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] wins for me! [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] is a middle name combo I have on my own list, so I love this name!!
I personally like the flow of the [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] combos better.
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_u]Noah[/name_u] are both two syllables with an O emphasized first and then an A. I think [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] sounds better following directly after [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_f]Lark[/name_f] came to mind, as well as [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_u]Brooks[/name_u].
@wildmoonchild - thank you! I like [name_u]Dove[/name_u], [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] a lot, too, but I generally prefer them for girls ([name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] I DEFINITELY do, but [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] almost feels like a more traditional version of [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f]?). I’ll think about [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_u]Dove[/name_u] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f]!
@[name_f]Alice[/name_f] - thank you! I love [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_m]Birch[/name_m], but I can’t figure out how to get a family tie from him? [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_m]Melchior[/name_m] is a maybe, but I like [name_m]Balthasar[/name_m] more than [name_m]Melchior[/name_m]. [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_m]Balthasar[/name_m], maybe?
@coleyk - me, too, but there’s something about [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] I like, too! le sigh.
@elise12 - thank you! I tossed around [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_f]Lark[/name_f] earlier, but wasn’t convinced (mainly because I also love [name_f]Lark[/name_f] for a girl!), but maybe he deserves a second look.
[name_m]Arnaud[/name_m] (eagle)
[name_m]Adler[/name_m] (eagle)
[name_m]Culver[/name_m] (dove)
[name_m]Faulkner[/name_m] (a falcon trainer)
[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] (this one is probably a bit of a stretch, but it’s the mythical half lion/half eagle creature haha)
I think [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Crane[/name_m] is really cute, and I also quite like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_m]Griffin[/name_m]
@lozzalizzy - thank you! [name_m]Crane[/name_m] is cool, and I do like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Crane[/name_m], but perhaps not as much as [name_f]Oriole[/name_f], Swift, [name_m]Heron[/name_m], or maybe [name_u]Wren[/name_u]/[name_f]Lark[/name_f]. I [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] [name_m]Adler[/name_m], and almost my entire family are massive, die-hard [name_u]Philadelphia[/name_u] Eagles fans, but I’m not sure I love [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Adler[/name_m] as much as I want to (although it is so fun to say!).
