Please choose ten favourites from my long list!

It would be so amazing if you could help me narrow down this list by picking your ten favourites and ranking them in order of preference. Your least favourites, comments and suggestions would be hugely appreciated too!

[name]Abraham[/name]

[name]David[/name]
[name]Edgar[/name]
[name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Edwin[/name]
[name]Ernest[/name]
[name]Floyd[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name]
[name]Frank[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Gregory[/name]
[name]Hector[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Hugh[/name]
[name]Ivan[/name]
[name]John[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Otto[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Piers[/name]
[name]Robert[/name]
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name]
[name]Walter[/name]
[name]Wilbur[/name]

I like your boys’ list so much, too! My favorites:

[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Conrad[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name]
[name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Bertram[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]

Again, no particular order, I love them all! I can’t even initially pick out a favorite. I would probably say [name]Jonah[/name], [name]August[/name], and [name]Flynn[/name] are my three favorites, though!

[name]Davis[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Ivan[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]

Are the ones I really like.

Then:

[name]August[/name]
[name]John[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]

  1. [name]Gregory[/name]-[name]One[/name] of my very favorite names, I prefer the full name [name]Gregory[/name] to [name]Greg[/name]. Strong and classic
  2. [name]Abraham[/name]-A name with a lot of character. [name]Abe[/name] has a very friendly feel to it.
  3. [name]Abram[/name]-Like this and [name]Abraham[/name] equally although with this I’d use the nn [name]Bram[/name]. Although I prefer the whole name to any nn.
  4. [name]Jonah[/name]-Cool and simple. A nice alternate to [name]John[/name] and the like.
  5. [name]Edmund[/name]-Has a very rich solid sound. More interesting than [name]Edward[/name], as long as he doesn’t end up as [name]Eddie[/name].
  6. [name]Edgar[/name]-Resonant and strong. [name]Gar[/name] would be an unusual nn. Same goes as with [name]Edmund[/name] as far as the nn [name]Eddie[/name].
  7. [name]Simon[/name]-Has become more popular recently but still rarely used enough to be distinctive.
  8. [name]Hugh[/name]-Nice and simple, maybe a bit to quiet. It would depend on your last name how much snap it would have.
  9. [name]Peter[/name]-An open friendly name, it seems to have fallen out of favor the last decade or so which could be an advantage.
  10. [name]David[/name]-Great name but there are a lot of [name]Dave[/name]'s in the world.

Least favorite-only 8 were ones I didn’t really like, the rest I was just indifferent too.

  1. [name]Floyd[/name]-[name]Just[/name] awful
  2. [name]Samson[/name]-While [name]Sam[/name] is a good solid nickname [name]Samson[/name] is a whole lot of name for anyone to carry around.
  3. [name]Hector[/name]-Sound like heckler
  4. [name]Ernest[/name]-An old man name
  5. [name]Bertram[/name]-Sounds like a muppet
  6. [name]Conrad[/name]-Sounds nerdy and more than likely would end up with the nn [name]Connie[/name]
  7. [name]Walter[/name]-A fuddy duddy name
  8. [name]Wilbur[/name]-I don’t really dislike this but it tied very closely to the pig from [name]Charlotte[/name]'s [name]Web[/name]. Maybe if he just went by the nn [name]Wil[/name].

[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Conrad[/name]
[name]Edgar[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]

My least favourites are; [name]Simon[/name], [name]Peter[/name], [name]Wilbur[/name], [name]Walter[/name], [name]Robert[/name], [name]Hector[/name], [name]Frank[/name], [name]Ernest[/name] and [name]Edwin[/name] - sound like middle aged men, sorry!

My top 10 in order of preference:

  1. [name]Theodore[/name]
  2. [name]Edward[/name]
  3. [name]Henry[/name]
  4. [name]August[/name]
  5. [name]Flynn[/name]
  6. [name]Abraham[/name]
  7. [name]Jonah[/name]
  8. [name]Edmund[/name]
  9. [name]Walter[/name]

These ones I do not love or strongly dislike (in no particular order):

[name]Abram[/name]
[name]David[/name]
[name]Edwin[/name]
[name]Frank[/name]
[name]Gregory[/name]
[name]Hector[/name]
[name]Hugh[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Robert[/name]
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]

These I really do not care for:

[name]Conrad[/name]
[name]Bertram[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Edgar[/name]
[name]Ernest[/name]
[name]Floyd[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name]
[name]John[/name]
[name]Ivan[/name]
[name]Otto[/name]
[name]Piers[/name]
[name]Wilbur[/name]

Edited for privacy.

[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Frank[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Walter[/name]

  1. [name]Arthur[/name] - This name sounds regal and knightly, but also quiet and bookish for a modern person, both images which I really like.

  2. [name]August[/name] - Again, this sounds both regal and bookish.

  3. [name]Edmund[/name] - Very handsome, sophisticated name for both a boy and an adult man

  4. [name]Walter[/name] - This is the name of one of my current professors that I love, so it makes me think of a soft spoken, well educated, and kind man.

  5. [name]Frederick[/name] - One of my uncles middle names, plus there is the Harry Potter association and the Frederick Douglass association, which overall gives me a very positive vibe when I hear the name.

  6. [name]Theodore[/name] - A lot of positive associations with this name as well, such as Theodore Laurence in Little Women and Theodore Roosevelt. I also love the nn Teddy for a young boy.

  7. [name]Henry[/name] - Again, a soft spoken, educated, kind gentleman.

  8. [name]Edwin[/name] - This gives me an image of a quirky, yet somehow sophisticated young man.

  9. [name]Patrick[/name] - This is my dad’s mn and I know a few others with this as a fn and they were all nice people. I get the image of an approachable, very friendly and relaxed, handsome and kind man.

  10. [name]John[/name] - I don’t think you can ever go wrong with John, it can fit any sort of personality.

That is a tentative ranking…it was really hard to put them in order, but I ranked them as first names and as if I were thinking of naming my own child. All of them are excellent names and depending on the circumstances (for example, which mn and ln they’d be paired with) I might shift the order around some, but that’s how I feel about them currently. That is definitely my top 10 without question, though. And of course you can see I like names with a very specific image in my mind.

Excellent list. I think I’ll list them in the order I like them in
[name]Vincent[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Robert[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Conrad[/name]
[name]Edmund[/name]

[name]Bertram[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]

These are the ones that I like (in no particular order) -

[name]August[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]

[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Robert[/name]

I really didn’t hate any of your names (except maybe [name]Floyd[/name]… I can’t stand the sound of it!). Most just aren’t my style. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Patrick[/name] though!
