[name_m]David[/name_m] is a family name. I have gone back and fourth on this name a lot. When I was in school there were hordes of Davids. I have heard the name less and less as an adult.
[name_m]David[/name_m] was fairly popular in the 1980s, but has waned a lot over recent years. My 27-year-old brother is named [name_m]David[/name_m]. I think it’s a nice name and would sound cute on a baby.
Most of the Davids I know are my dad’s age, but [name_m]David[/name_m] is truly timeless. I think it’s a handsome name. It would be so refreshing to meet a baby [name_m]David[/name_m].
[name_m]David[/name_m] is a wonderful, classic name. Go for it!
[name_m]David[/name_m] is a good strong name. All of the [name_m]David[/name_m]'s I know are in their 20s or older, but I’d love to hear it on a baby now.
is a solid name.
There were a fair number in my generation (born 1962), and in the generations before mine, but I have taught for 25 years (grades 3-12) and am trying to think of Davids I have taught - one springs to mind only. No, actually two.
Not sure about the little toddler crop though. [name_m]Davy[/name_m] is cute for a little boy and [name_m]Dave[/name_m] has an amiable cheer to it.
Thank you, all, for your opinions.
I love the name! I think it’s a classic and will never go out of style. It’s great for a first name and also a middle name.
All the Davids that I know are in their 20s. That being said, I find [name_m]David[/name_m] a tad boring. It is definitely a strong, traditional name, but it is a wee bit yawn for me, especially compared to the other boy names in your signature.
I know a lot of Davids. Many of them are younger than me. My best friend’s little brother is [name_m]David[/name_m]. It is nice, but is kind of boring for me. It’s a classic, but I think it is better for a middle name.
[name_m]David[/name_m] is a lovely, strong, timeless name.
I think a cool / unexpected nickname could elevate it, though. Something like [name_u]Day[/name_u], [name_u]Dai[/name_u], [name_m]Dax[/name_m], [name_u]Dash[/name_u], [name_m]Dewey[/name_m], [name_u]Davi[/name_u]…
[name_m]David[/name_m]'s strength lies in his versatility. He is a doctor, an outdoorsman, a marketing executive, a contractor, and an artist–free from association with one particular person or stereotype. There will always be a few Davids around, but not one will need to repeatedly spell or explain his name.
I think it’s a nice and classic name. I prefer it in a middle spot cause it’s a tad boring for my taste. There’s nothing wrong with the name though.
If I’m to be brutally honest, I find it really boring. I just know SO many Davids. It’s on a par with [name_m]John[/name_m] or [name_m]Steve[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m]…yawn.
It’s not offensive, or ugly, it’s just a bit meh.
Thank you, all, for your honest opinions.
Sugarplum, I love your suggestions of modernizing it with a fun nickname. I really like [name_m]Dax[/name_m].
