please help! 4 weeks left-need fresh ideas

4 weeks left before baby girl #3 arrives, and we still do not have a name that we love. I’m looking for fresh ideas from my trusted berries! Sisters are [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. we like vintage, timeless names that have a happy and sweet feel to them, but are not too common. Last name is a bit long so we would also prefer a first name that is easy to pronounce and spell. [name_m]Just[/name_m] to give you an idea of our style, names on our list are:

[name_f]Mae[/name_f]/[name_f]May[/name_f]–DH loves but I do not
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]–I like but DH does not
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]–we like but are hesitant it is too irish (we have no irish ties or roots at all)
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]–like, but don’t love. worry about pronunciation and spelling issues
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]–i do not like ellie as a nickname

any opinions on your favorite from our list and new ideas would be greatly appreciated! i’ve been obsessively looking for the right name for the last 8 months, and am worried we won’t find the right one. please help! thanks so much in advance!

Lila and Nora are lovely together, good luck!

[name_f]May[/name_f]/ [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are my favorites from your list. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and:
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f] (so all your girls end in a?)
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_f]Kate[/name_f]/ [name_f]Katie[/name_f]
[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u]/ [name_f]Junia[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellen[/name_f]

Goodluck

My favorites from your list are [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].

[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] &

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]

Oh my goodness. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] are two of my dream names (I love, my husband vetoed)!

I think the phonetic spelling of [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] isn’t as Irish as [name_f]Meabh[/name_f]. Although it is gorgeous, your other daughters have easily pronouncable names.
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f] feels a bit heavy to me compared to the soft sweetness of [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f].

Names I love with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f]:
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Zara[/name_f] (too modern?)

Good luck!

I just wanted to chime in on your choice of [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].

We have an [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and we thought we’d use the nickname “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]” as it reminded us of a sweet girl we met when we were engaged and the name was ever since a special one for my husband. However, “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]” just hasn’t stuck as a nickname. We called her “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Lu[/name_f]” for a while and that got shortened to “[name_f]Lulu[/name_f]”, which right now (she’s only a toddler) seems like the cutest nickname and really suits her. I’m sure it’s a nickname that she’ll grow out of and will eventually go by just [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] (which we call her 1/2 to 2/3 of the time).

Anyways, just thought I’d say that I think “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]” is avoidable if you choose to go with [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].

I like everything on your list, except for [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].
Other suggestions to go with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] & [name_f]Nora[/name_f]:
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f]Mina[/name_f]/[name_f]Mila[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]

I also liked the suggestions of [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Anya[/name_f] & [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

I’m not really crazy about any of your current choices with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is my favorite from your list. I’ve always liked the nickname [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] with [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].

Of the other suggestions I really like [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], and [name_f]Stella[/name_f].

I also like:
[name_f]Alma[/name_f]
[name_f]Adela[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] best, though [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are also fabulous choices I’d be thrilled to hear on a new babe. [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is just fine, but it’s not my style.

What about [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], or [name_f]Cora[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Calla[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f] ([name_f]Helen[/name_f]?), [name_f]Sara[/name_f], [name_f]Aura[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f] (pron [name_m]Lenn[/name_m]-a), [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_f]Cassia[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]…

I love pp’s suggestions of [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Alma[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

Great names!

[name_f]Niamh[/name_f] - pronounced [name_f]Neve[/name_f]
[name_f]Aoife[/name_f]
[name_f]Orla[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f]
[name_f]Bella[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f]
[name_u]Penny[/name_u]
[name_f]Tilly[/name_f]
[name_f]Millie[/name_f]
[name_f]Moya[/name_f]

Hmm…
Well [name_f]Lila[/name_f] & [name_f]Nora[/name_f] have a very wholesome, slightly southern feel to the names, they also have a slight nickname vibe. So for me this would rule out anything overly formal. Thus I would eliminate [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. Despite being gorgeous names, they feel overly formal next to [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. To be honest I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] but if the DH doesn’t I would eliminate this choice but have you thought of other flower names…?
Other flower names:
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - ‘[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]’
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] - ‘[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]’
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] - ‘[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], & [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]’
[name_f]Posey[/name_f] - ‘[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Posey[/name_f]’
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - ‘[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Violet[/name_f]’
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] - ‘[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Calla[/name_f]’
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] - ‘[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Iris[/name_f]’

[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is lovely, she does work with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] because like them she has that retro vibe. Yes [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is Irish but at the end of the day Irish names have become universal many people use Irish names who aren’t Irish. [name_m]Declan[/name_m] has risen in popularity, do you think every parent of [name_m]Declan[/name_m] is Irish? No of course not! Similarly with [name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Connor[/name_m], and Nimah, so popular in the UK but I suspect the parents of [name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Connor[/name_m], and [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] aren’t Irish and many of them haven’t even been to [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]. Furthermore you do get your DH beloved [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/[name_f]May[/name_f] without actually using the name.

I like [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/[name_f]May[/name_f] but if you don’t I wouldn’t use the name. Your the mother after all. Your opinion comes first!!

Have you looked into other names ending in ‘a’…?
Suggestions:
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], & [name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Juna[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Juna[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Bella[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Bella[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Anya[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Etta[/name_f]

Lastly other suggestions that just work with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] & [name_f]Nora[/name_f]…
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_f]Margo[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Margo[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Fay[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Fay[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] - [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped x

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is beautiful! [name_m]Just[/name_m] so you know, I have a cousin [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] (she’s only 10) but she has never ever been called anything but [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]! I couldn’t even imagine calling her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Nicknames are definitely not inevitable!
Best of luck.

Wow! Thanks for all the great suggestions and thoughtful comments! I’m compiling a list and will bring them to dh. He’s so picky he has vetoed quite a few that were suggested that I like including freya, [name_f]Stella[/name_f], ivy, iris, [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], ruby, jane, and cecily.

We loved [name_f]Claire[/name_f] but were worried about its popularity, so it is now on our short list. [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is cute but I strongly associate it with the Disney cow…

[name_f]Rosa[/name_f] is sweet but for some reason I find rose so much prettier in its simplicity. Dh just told me last night that he is worried that [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is a flower name, and with rose would seem too much like a theme. So I guess that nixes other flower names…

I love
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]-is this vintage enough?
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]-does this name seem dated? Like from the 70s?
[name_f]Adela[/name_f]
[name_f]Millie[/name_f]-too nickname ish?
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]-again too nickname ish?
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]-is nickname [name_u]Jules[/name_u] inevitable?
[name_f]Zara[/name_f]-is this vintage or modern?

Bb2duesoon- thank you so much for your input regarding [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]! It’s great to hear first hand experiences with a name, and I think lulu is adorable! Question-my dh wants me to ask you how people pronounce [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. Is it with a soft “s” -eese? Or eeze?

Thanks again guys! Keep the suggestions coming! I will update when dh goes through these names!

Personally I would go with something with a different sound, maybe even 1 syllable, so it’s not too matchy with the others. For example, I would avoid [name_f]Isla[/name_f] which rhymes with [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f]/[name_f]Flora[/name_f] which rhyme with [name_f]Nora[/name_f], other 4 letter names starting with L and ending in a…

Names that fit the bill:

[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/[name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]
etc.
And I like [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f].

To answer your a couple of your questions above, [name_f]Esme[/name_f] maybe feels less vintage, but it fits well in that it is short & sweet, 4 letters, but with totally different vowels sounds than [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. And I don’t think [name_f]Faye[/name_f] is dated, I think it is on the comeback and would be a fresher choice than [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/[name_f]May[/name_f].

Wow tori101! What a great analysis and thoughtful input! I really appreciate you taking so much time and care into helping us! I completely agree about [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] sounding more formal next to [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. I couldn’t put my finger on it but you spelled it out exactly.

[name_f]Love[/name_f] flower names ivy, iris, and calla. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it is too matchy with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] (also a derivative of lilac flower)?

We were debating whether the name has to end in “a”, and were actually undecided on that. Of those names, i
like [name_f]Etta[/name_f] but dh doesn’t. I also love [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] but they are way too popular.

phoebe and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] I love but dh doesn’t. [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] we both love but it is very popular as well.

[name_u]Jem[/name_u]-thanks for the input and experience with [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]! I’m happy to hear that a nickname isn’t inevitable! Great to know!

I have a [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and no one has called her [name_u]Jules[/name_u] (but she’s only 1, so I guess it might happen eventually).

I love [name_f]Esme[/name_f] with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] because it matches in short-and-sweet-ness but has completely different sounds. For similar reasons, I also like [name_f]Eve[/name_f].
I would avoid another flower, although [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is lovely with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. Maybe I’d make an exception for [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. But [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] share the long I with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] so they sound very similar to me in addition to being floral, and [name_f]Calla[/name_f] shares the -la.

[name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f]/[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] are others that have been mentioned that I think would be nice too.

Before I even read your list of possible options, I thought, “[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] would be pretty!” It was funny to read it right after it popped into my head. It’s a plus that you and hour DH both like it. I don’t think it is a problem to have an Irish name even though you haven’t any cultural ties, unless you have a strong opinion on it. I think it’s really beautiful. Other names: (maybe you’ll like, maybe you’ll hate)

[name_f]Joelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Andi[/name_f]
Faelle ([name_f]Fay[/name_f]-[name_f]Elle[/name_f])
[name_m]Kael[/name_m]/Kaelle ([name_m]Ky[/name_m]-[name_f]Elle[/name_f])
[name_m]Cole[/name_m]
[name_f]Coco[/name_f]

I don’t have many ideas and I don’t know if they are your style, but good luck!

I like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] best.

I’m glad to hear you don’t feel we need an “a” ending. We were worried it would be too matchy. And I totally agree a short and sweet one-syllable would sound nice. I really like
Tess
Faye
Pearl-but this is Nora’s middle name so we can’t use it.
Esme

I love Juliet! Such a pretty name. Good to know she doesn’t get any nicknames. I really like esme too but dh says it doesn’t sound “like a real name” and we are worried about pronunciation issues. Do you pronounce it Es-may? Or Es-mee?

Good point about iris and violet with the long "I"s, and I’m happy to hear others love rose… Now if I could just sell dh on it! I adore it.

I’m happy you thought of maeve with our sibset! I’m not that familiar with the name so I wasn’t sure it had the same feel as Lila and Nora… Would you guys consider it vintage? Mythical? Medieval? Does it sound like a happy name to you?

I adore coco, but as a nickname. It’s actually one of the reasons I like Corinne-nickname coco would be adorable!

Thanks again guys! This is really helping to clarify things and give us new ideas! Keep them coming!

I don’t think of [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] as vintage really, I think of her as strong, confident, mythical maybe, mysterious. [name_f]Love[/name_f] the meaning.

As for [name_f]Esme[/name_f]–I’m not sure if this is correct, but I say [name_f]Esme[/name_f] without an accent Es-mee. With accent, Es-may. Good luck!

My first thought was [name_f]Mia[/name_f] then [name_f]Esme[/name_f] (Es-[name_f]May[/name_f]), then [name_u]Isa[/name_u].
