We are expecting our first daughter (and third child) in only a few weeks and still can not decide on her name. Is it [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] or [name_f]Frances[/name_f]?
We have two sons already, and their names are [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] ([name_u]Max[/name_u]) and [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m].
While my husband has kindly agreed to name our daughter [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] (as this was initially my first choice), he is not too keen on the name, but assures me he’ll come around to it once she arrives. I love the name and feel like it could be the one.
However, we both like the name [name_f]Frances[/name_f] as well - this is actually my middle name, so it would have some meaning to it if we chose this option for our little girl.
The names are so very different and I am absolutely torn on which to choose. [name_f]Frances[/name_f] has such a sweet ring to it and is definitely unique. We could call her [name_f]Francie[/name_f] for short and it would be super adorable. But [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]… it has such a soft and old-school sound to it and I really do love it as well.
Any feedback on these names would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]?
Practice saying the names aloud as if you’re calling your daughter and see what sounds best to you both.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is my favourite. [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is ok too, but [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is so cute. You could have [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] (like verystrawbery suggested) or [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]
I like both names but I personally prefer [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. Either choice ([name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] or [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]) will by gorgeous, but if your husband prefers [name_f]Frances[/name_f], maybe that sways it?
Personally I have never liked [name_f]Frances[/name_f] as a name, but I love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and think it is truly an adorable name. So my vote is for [name_f]Hazel[/name_f].
I personally prefer [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] but I feel that since you and your husband both love [name_f]Frances[/name_f] you should go with it! It’s important that both of you love the name.
I love Franice (Alias bff) but since you have two boys already, on paper unisex [name_f]Frances[/name_f] automatically becomes masculine. I know its not [name_u]Francis[/name_u] but reading it out still sounds the same and with male names it gets a male vibe. If you had two girls, [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], & [name_f]Frances[/name_f] - that would be a different and more cohesive sibset since besides the masculinity I feel [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is the odd name out with [name_u]Max[/name_u] & [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m].
Maybe uses you middle as inspiration instead of namesake - [b][name_f]Francesca[/name_f] /b? it balances the more elaborate [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] & elevates the sibset to have an old world gilded vintage charm versus a working class new world charm. Yet they can still be transformed with [name_u]Max[/name_u] & [name_f]Francie[/name_f] into more warm friendly names.
Thank you everyone for your advice on this one. I really appreciate it! I pray that we can decide on this right away. It’s driving me nuts! Again, thanks so much.
I think I like [name_f]Frances[/name_f] the best but I do worry like the previous poster that with two boys already, [name_f]Frances[/name_f] will seem masculine. Is [name_f]Francine[/name_f] out? [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is pretty too. Good luck deciding.
I love both names! I think [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] or [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] would both be adorable. I slightly prefer [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], so my vote goes to [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]!
I am partial to [name_f]Frances[/name_f] since my all time favorite girl’s name is [name_f]Francine[/name_f] I think [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is an Amazing name!!!
