Please Help First Time Mom with Names (My List Included)

Hi I’m Gentry, and I’m new to this forum. I’m currently 4 months pregnant with a beautiful baby girl who I can’t wait to meet come late September. I have a unique name ( my user name is my first and middle name) and have always loved my name. I hope my girl will love her name too. Will you help me pick a name from the following list, or give me your recommendations?! I just don’t want anything that could potentially hold her back. All my loved ones have given me complete freedom to name her whatever I want, so there’s no stopping me! I’ve been crushing on vintage names. Let me know if you think any of these are just too common as well.

[name_u]Finley[/name_u], [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] are all pretty popular where I live. I wouldn’t be surprised if you met another little girl in her class with those names. If you’re looking for more unique, I wouldn’t go with one of those.

I like [name_f]Leona[/name_f] [name_u]Wynn[/name_u] a lot! I think that’s beautiful. [name_u]Unique[/name_u] without being too out there.

I also like [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] [name_m]Ford[/name_m] and [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_u]Gale[/name_u], but [name_f]Leona[/name_f] is my favorite!

I’m liking [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Fae[/name_f] or [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] [name_m]Ford[/name_m] as combinations from your lovely list! I prefer the [name_f]Faye[/name_f] spelling if that matters but am a fan of [name_f]Faye[/name_f], so pretty.

[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f] are also really pretty although I am neutral on the middle names. I would suggest [name_f]Violet[/name_f] as a middle. [name_u]Or[/name_u] keeping [name_f]Faye[/name_f] as you love it!

Oh gosh I’m crushing on your name list ! I like sooo many of your names , however if you are looking for more unconventional/ uncommon names Faewynn, [name_f]Leona[/name_f] and [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] fit this

Here are my thoughts on the list:

[name_u]Finley[/name_u] Fae-I personally find [name_u]Finley[/name_u] better for a boy. And [name_u]Finn[/name_u] names in general, but particularly [name_u]Finley[/name_u] for a girl is getting a tad popular. I don’t hate the sound (like I said, love it for a boy!), but it doesn’t feel super special.

[name_u]Hadley[/name_u] Fae-This is a bit modern & not super special sounding in my opinion either. It’s cute enough…just actually kind of like I hear it a ton.

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] Fae-Rosalie is so darling. It’s slowly rising the charts a bit. I wouldn’t say that it’s way over done. But it feels better than [name_u]Finley[/name_u] & [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], because it’s more classic, you know? It has such a friendly cheerful vibe.

[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] Gale-This name is way more popular than I realized looking at the SSA charts. I don’t hear it very often in real life. It’s not my personal favorite, but I have no good reason why. [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_u]Gale[/name_u] is sort of a description though, right? I like [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_f]Fae[/name_f] more.

[name_f]Leona[/name_f] Wynn-Oh, [name_f]Leona[/name_f] is interesting. It’s different & smart & pretty. I like [name_u]Wynn[/name_u] a lot, but I prefer [name_f]Leona[/name_f] [name_f]Fae[/name_f] or [name_f]Leona[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

[name_f]Kiera[/name_f] Ford-I don’t care much for [name_f]Kiera[/name_f], just because it feels so modern & only spelled that way because of the actress. That turns me off a bit. I like [name_f]Ciara[/name_f] or [name_f]Kira[/name_f] more. [name_m]Ford[/name_m] is way too masculine in my opinion.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] Rose-I don’t mind it. It’s not super popular. It’s super popular on these boards! But not in real life. I like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_u]Wynn[/name_u] more.

Faewynn Iris-It has a pretty sound, but I think it’s a bit made-up-y.

I’ve been looking at the charts too - only to find some of my favorites like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] are too common for what I am looking for. [name_f]My[/name_f] partner wants me to name her [name_u]Gentry[/name_u] after myself haha. [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] is on my short list. [name_f]Clover[/name_f] might be a new one to add!

I’ve been calling her [name_u]Finley[/name_u] in my belly, definitely was my frontrunner for a while. Now I may be going towards [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. I just want to figure it out so I can order her cute custom bow hangers and a sign!

[name_f]Heather[/name_f] was always one of my favorites but was vetoed by my mom for some reason. I love [name_f]Lillis[/name_f]! [name_f]My[/name_f] mother’s name is [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] so that would be a cute nod to her. [name_f]Carys[/name_f] has a beautiful meaning too which is something I like. Thank you!

Alot of these were on my original shortlist actually! I love all of them. [name_u]Florence[/name_u] was my first name for her, but was vetoed by my mom again due to us having a hillbilly cousin named this haha. But it’s still one of my favorites.

You like all my partner’s favorites! [name_f]Leona[/name_f] is lioness in Latin and I want her to be fierce. and [name_u]Wynn[/name_u] means fair or pure. I like this combination a lot. [name_m]Ford[/name_m] and [name_u]Gale[/name_u] are both family names that I hid in some of my names. Thank you for your input. I know my partner would want me to name her [name_f]Leona[/name_f], and it’s def top 3 for me.

Very nice list. I really like Autumn and Margot, just personal preference.

Depending on your area you might find Finley relatively popular or not. As far as assessing its popularity, you might also check on how popular Finn is on boys.

Autumn Gale translates in my brain to “hurricane” or something along those lines - this is probably picky but I would prefer an alternate spelling of Gale here or a different middle name with it.

Some other names you might like (sorry for any repeats):
Fiona (similar to Leona)
Genevieve or Geneva (same beginning as Gentry)
Lyra (either pronounced LYE-ra or LEER-uh)

I’m also a first time mum I had my little girl on 3.2.21 and it was overwhelming finding the perfect name there’s so many factors to consider and lots of things to think about but I wouldn’t be concerned about a particular name holding your child back. Children are called a variety of different names nowadays so I don’t think you need to be concerned about that.
