I like the name [name_f]Lila[/name_f] pronounced (lie-la) but afraid she will constantly have to correct and be mispronounced as [name_f]Leela[/name_f]. We live in US.
What are your thoughts?
Should I choose [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] spelling instead or [name_f]Lyla[/name_f], although [name_f]Lila[/name_f] to me seems prettier.
Thank you
I would go with the spelling you love and simply correct the mispronunciation if it happens. You have spelt it correctly based on the sound you are going for, and I do like [name_f]Lila[/name_f] best as well.
I second the previous poster: go with what you love! I agree that [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is aesthetically more pleasant. Also, based upon the pronunciation of “[name_f]Lola[/name_f]”, I feel like lie-la is a logical pronunciation.
I prefer [name_f]Lila[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Lila[/name_f], but I don’t know if you know this, but most [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and Lilahs actually go by Lie-la (However the only [name_f]Lila[/name_f] I know is [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-Lah, but I’m in Australia). So it might not be as big of an issue as you thought. But go for the spelling you like. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if she gets called [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-la once or twice, it’s not a big deal to correct people.
Since [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is quite popular and pronunced mostly as you want I don’t think you will have much of an issue. I slightly prefer the [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] spelling, but that’s just for looks and nothing to do with pronunciation. So just spell it [name_f]Lila[/name_f] as you prefer.
I think just go with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] - I’ve never heard of anyone with the spelling [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and pronunciation [name_f]Leela[/name_f]. [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] wouldn’t necessarily correct the mispronunciation, and [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] would probably always be misspelled as [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. I agree with you that [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is the prettier spelling.
I have never heard anyone pronounce [name_f]Lila[/name_f] as anything other than lie-luh (like the beginning of [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]). I live in the US as well. I think the odds of someone pronouncing [name_f]Lila[/name_f] any other way are about the same as anyone trying to pronounce [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] as foe-bee. The only people likely to pronounce [name_f]Lila[/name_f] as anything other than lie-luh (or [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] as anything other than fee-bee) are non-native-English speakers. And only a small percentage of those.
Stick with [name_f]Lila[/name_f]. Definitely the sweetest and most elegant spelling.
I prefer [name_f]Lila[/name_f].
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] is the best. [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] is nice, too.
I’m with the pp. I’ve only ever seen [name_f]Lila[/name_f] pronounced as Lie-la.
I actually prefer the [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] spelling though. I think it looks prettier but ultimately it’s your choice how you spell it!
