I’m English (although do not live in [name]England[/name]) and although we don’t know what we are having yet (31 weeks pregnant), I am guessing it will probably be another boy since we already have 2 boys!
Our 2 boys are called:
[name]William[/name] [name]Tobias[/name] [name]Seaton[/name] (we call him “[name]Toby[/name]” as [name]William[/name] is a family name)
[name]Augustus[/name] [name]Jeremy[/name] [name]Seaton[/name] (we call him “[name]Gus[/name]” or “[name]Gussie[/name]”)
Given that [name]Tobias[/name] and [name]Augustus[/name] are quite “grand” names, we are thinking we should go that way for #3 BUT with the option of a nice shortened nickname.
The names I like are (all with the middle name [name]Anthony[/name] as that’s my father’s name that we’ve decided to use).
[name]Ralph[/name] (or [name]Ralphie[/name] while he’s young) [name]Anthony[/name] [name]Seaton[/name]
[name]Raphael[/name] (nn ? ) [name]Anthony[/name] [name]Seaton[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name] [name]Anthony[/name] [name]Seaton[/name]
[name]Constantine[/name] (but not sure that I like [name]Stan[/name] for a nn?) [name]Anthony[/name] [name]Seaton[/name]
[name]Montgomery[/name] (nn [name]Monty[/name])
BUT, these aren’t terribly “grand” names (apart from [name]Constantine[/name] and [name]Montgomery[/name]). I have not cleared “[name]Constantine[/name]” or “[name]Montgomery[/name]” with my husband yet either!
[name]Hi[/name] there :- )
First of all I [name]LOVE[/name] the names for your first two boys! You have used some of my absolute faves - especially [name]August[/name] I love it
Anyhoo the first names that came to me are -
[name]Theodore[/name] nns [name]Ted[/name], [name]Theo[/name], [name]Teddy[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] nns [name]Seb[/name], [name]Bas[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name] nn [name]Tad[/name], [name]Thad[/name]
[name]Zachariah[/name] or [name]Zachary[/name] nn [name]Zac[/name]
[name]Benedict[/name] nn [name]Ben[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name] nn Oli, [name]Ollie[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name] nns [name]Nick[/name], [name]Nicky[/name]
[name]Phinnaeus[/name] nn Phinn,[name]Phinny[/name],[name]Finn[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name] nn Zek, [name]Zeke[/name]
[name]Alistair[/name] nn [name]Al[/name], [name]Ali[/name]
I really like [name]Raphael[/name] which you mentioned you like I would use the nn [name]Raffy[/name], I also [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Rafferty[/name] with the same nn.
All the best
[name]Rupert[/name] and [name]Raphael[/name] are great. If you go with [name]Ralph[/name], it might be helpful to note (depending on where you live) that Americans pronounce it to rhyme with [name]Alf[/name] (like the 80s TV alien) rather than the British pronunciation to rhyme with chafe.
Thanks for your feedback. I am English and have already pronounced [name]Ralph[/name] like r-alf (rather than [name]Rafe[/name]) - I had a boy in my class at school and his was always pronounced like this.
[name]Atticus[/name] would be pretty cool - although not sure what the shortened name of it would be.
I need to discuss with my husband now he’s back from his business trip!
You can keep ideas coming though!
Im not a fan of [name]Ralph[/name], [name]Raphael[/name], or [name]Rupert[/name]. They all lack in comparison to [name]Tobias[/name] and [name]Augustus[/name] imho. [name]Raphael[/name] might work with the nn [name]Rafe[/name]. I love [name]Montgomery[/name] “[name]Monty[/name].” [name]Thaddeus[/name] “[name]Thad[/name]” would be the perfect name imo. Or maybe [name]Lucius[/name] “[name]Lou[/name].”
I love [name]Rafael[/name] nn Raf. I think it’s very sweet and goes nicely with [name]Toby[/name] and [name]Gus[/name]. I also really [name]LOVE[/name] the idea of [name]Montgomery[/name] nn [name]Monty[/name]. I think it fits so well and is a name that doesn’t get much use but fits well in your sibset. Some other options (sorry for repeats, no time to read through all!):
Thanks guys! The ones on my short list are as follows (haven’t discussed some of these at all with my husband - I’d only mentioned [name]Rupert[/name], [name]Archibald[/name] ([name]Archie[/name]) and [name]Ralph[/name] to him all of which he was OK with (he was doubtful about [name]Ralph[/name] due to something to do with The Simpsons on TV!). I’m doubtful about [name]Archie[/name] as I think it may just be too “common” (I mean that in the true sense of the word rather than the snobby way!) - it’s pretty popular in the UK now I think. I have added some of your suggestions to my list.
Whilst I love the names [name]Rupert[/name] and [name]Ralph[/name] I am just thinking they don’t go well with [name]Tobias[/name] and [name]Augustus[/name] (even though we only use [name]Toby[/name] and [name]Gus[/name] on a daily basis).
The thing I do like about my current boys names is that they are great for babies/little boys as I can make them both an “y” or “ie” sound at the end i.e. [name]Toby[/name] and [name]Gussie[/name] or I also call him “[name]Gus[/name] [name]Gus[/name]”. I do like to be able to do that. I call [name]Gus[/name] “[name]Gus[/name]” when we are out and about, but quite often call him [name]Gussie[/name] at home (as do all my relatives).
Please keep your comments on my names and suggestions coming - you are being helpful in getting me thinking. We still have until my due date of 29th [name]July[/name] to decide. It will probably be a girl after all this!!
BTW [name]Seaton[/name] is a 3rd name as it runs in our family. Our surname begins with F and is [name]German[/name] and has 3 syllables.
