Please help me love these names

So most of these names I’ve never liked, and some I’ve recently felt a sudden hatred toward. These are my least favorite names, and recently I’ve been seeing them on nameberry all the time!!! Someone please try to convince me to love these names… I just can’t escape them. TIA!

[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] (em-EE-lee-uh)
[name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] (EM-ma-leen)
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] (LID-ee-uh)
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] (JEN-uh-veev)

Glad to know someone agrees!

I only came to like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] because of its status as a place - it’s dotted throughout Greek mythology! I’m also a fan of Beetlejuice, which helped.

Honestly, the only name I like on there is [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] but I prefer the spelling [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is okay but I don’t love it and it oddly reminds me of lizards. I don’t think you can really help anyone like a name. At the end of the day, we all like different names and have different styles, for example, some people like names like [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] and others like names like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], sometimes people can like both but it shouldn’t be forced upon people.

I don’t think you need to learn to love names you don’t like. It’s okay not to like names, even widely adored ones!

I think Emmeline is better than Emily or Emma. It’s not as overdone?

Same with Emilia although I prefer Amelia. I really like Amelie the best of the entire Em/Am family! Im not big on any of the others but if it isn’t Emily or Emma at least I applaud a bit! I don’t know if that helps!

I actually really like Lydia and Genevieve so I can’t help you there. I have never met a Lydia so it seems fresh to me. And Genevieve sounds really pretty with a French accent and im just glad it isn’t Jennifer!

But you are allowed to not like some names! You don’t have to change your mind. The world would be a really dull place if we all liked and disliked the same names. If they aren’t your cup of tea that’s totally fine!

I dont like Rose, Mae, Grace, June as middle names. It super bugs me when I see these get used in the middle spot constantly and I feel parents aren’t very creative. Unpopular opinion but thats just how I feel! Sorry not sorry

Thanks everyone! you have brought me new respect for [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], and I know I’m not going to like everything, but [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is beginning to grow on me!

I’m not a fan of [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], but I prefer [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Emilie[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] more so.

I love [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] over [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] simply because I can get the nn [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] which I love and it looks prettier to me. I know they are technically pronounced differently but to me when said out loud they sound the same. I also love [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] for the nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and it’s just so beautiful to me. So classy and fun! I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] but pronounced EM-ah-line. Again l love the nn [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] so that name gets me to that as well. I prefer it as a middle. In regards to [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], I don’t understand the hype. I am not a fan.

I’ve known two Lydias. One being in their 30s now and the other is 2 now. The name still hasn’t grown on me.

Emilia - I love the spelling and sound. I just think it looks really pleasing and sounds great. Nn possibilities: [name_f]Emi[/name_f], millie, lia, em, mila

Lydia - again I’m a lover of ia names and it begins with l. Soft sounding and delicate it looks and sounds beautiful. Fits with the like of [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f],
[name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Adelynn[/name_f]. It has all the right letters for the current trends

Emmaline is weird. I’m used to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] Pankhurst fought for women’s right to vote in the U.K. - strong female/feminist name. Whilst also having a frenchy feel, delicate and pretty. Victorian-Edwardian era so due a comeback it’s been 100 years but I admit I prefer [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f] to [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]

Ok, I used to (as in a few days ago) absolutely love [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. It sounds like a Renaissance princess! [name_f]Gen[/name_f]-a-veeev. It’s got a rhythm and richness to it that is just delightful. Also, [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is the patron saint of [name_f]France[/name_f] with an impressive history as a leader. And the nicknames [name_f]Ginny[/name_f], [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], etc. are fabulous!

However, recently I’ve become disillusioned with [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] because I’ve decided to be more traditional in my tastes.

As for the others, [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is another springy name. She’s Biblical and it just sounds lush and full. I can’t really explain taste preference beyond that.

Emilia, I’ll chalk that to [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_m]Clark[/name_m] and how it’s tamer in appearance than [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].

Lastly, [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], as in Pankhurst. I’m actually not totally into this name because I prefer [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], but the feminist icon and nickname options like [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] are appealing.

Emilia is simple yet different

Emmeline is sleek and vintage

Lydia is sensible but sweet

Genevieve is stylish and elegant

It’s okay not to like popular nb choices though:)

The only one I like is [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]. It’s less pretentious somehow than buttoned-up [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].
