hi there! i know a few people have asked for advice on changing their names on nb the past few days and i thought i’d ask for some help too! i’m getting desperate to officially change it now and i wanted to get some outside opinions on my choices!
it’s currently between [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and Rosenwyn. I wanted a name that was a little out there and [name_m]OTT[/name_m], and with some personal connection to me.
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] - Dahlias are my favourite flowers, for looks and symbolism. to me, [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is pretty and feminine, but has a bit of an edge, and the symbolic meaning of inner strength and positive change really speaks to me (due to the reasons for my name change). My hesitation is the pronunciation - i say dah-lee-uh with a long ahhh sound (like [name_m]Roald[/name_m] Dahl) and very little emphasis on the middle syllable. but here in the uk lots of people would probably say day-lee-uh if they saw it on paper.
Rosenwyn - relatively new to the table but really spoke to me. Rosenwyn links strongly to my heritage and has a really pretty meaning (white/fair rose). it’s out there but still contains recognisable ‘parts’ and is also a different way to get to a loved nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. it gives me the lovely imagery of a medieval maiden twirling on the cliffs by the sea - it’s very pretty but i feel it lacks any edge?
sorry for this long post but td;lr - which name do you prefer & why? also, if you have any middle suggestions for either please drop them! thank you!
After reading your post, it sounds like YOU really love Rosenwyn, so I think you should go with that one!! I also love the nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] for you so that would be my pick.
I also really like Rosenwyn…for me it’s got no less of an edge than [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]. (FWIW, I’d pronounce [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] the way you describe it, but I’m also in the US.)
For middle names, I’ll suggest some of my favorites…
thank you! using [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] Rosenwyn is a really great idea but i also feel like i love them both as first names. I love the suggestions of [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] as middles!
Hello, British person here (South [name_m]Wales[/name_m]). I would pronounce [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] the same way you do, but I do know some people would pronounce it the other way. It’s really pretty though. I’m not sure how Rosenwyn would be pronounced. [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-en-win, roz-ehn-win??
I love [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]! It’s so beautiful, elegant and underused! I would pronounce it dah-lee-uh as well. It’s such a beautiful name! Rosenwyn is very interesting. I think I’ve never seen it before but I really like it (I’m crazy about rose related names). I think [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] Rosenwyn would be absolutely perfect!
the official pronunciation is roz-en-win, however i tend to pronounce it more like ro-zen-win. not that i don’t like the official pronunciation, i’m just a sucker for [name_f]Rose[/name_f]- names
thank you! [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] is a long time love of mine and I also love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names ahh! i’m leaning towards using [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] Rosenwyn
