Actually, my father has just given up already and uses her middle name. I think he’s tired of me correcting him!

I would say to family members who struggle: just use her middle name or else her nickname ________ but if you do want to remember how to say her name just think of the word/name, “Ray” before you give it a go!

Oh that’s too funny all the Aurelias you have met pronounced it differently. I would expect it to be different depending on the country or region- like Beatrice changes dramatically from English to French to Italian. We are due to remain in Switzerland but I was hoping for an international name. I thougth going with a latin root would be a fool-proof way but clearly I was wrong. Thank you for your suggestions!

Yes, you are probably right. I spend so much time and energy into finding this ‘perfect’ name, I can’t believe I overlooked this aspect of it.

Also, remember that pronunciations, unlike spellings, are not standardized or legalized so if you do end up keeping the name [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] she can freely choose to pronounce it how she wants, no need to file a court petition.

Actually my #1 choice was [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f]. I did do my Homework on [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] and it DOES NOT translate well into [name_f]English[/name_f] (Orally 
)
my husband’s #1 choice was [name_f]Coral[/name_f] or [name_f]Cora[/name_f], and MAYBe we could combine them int Coralie??? I’ll have to do a few test runs on this.
[name_m]Can[/name_m] I ask where they were from? Because here it’s the AU part that varies most of all, between languages, the ‘re’ part stays pretty much the same.
But is that really the American pronunciation? I always thought it could be pronounced either way. I’d just correct people vs changing their name entirely.
And maybe they can call her by a nn like “Rae” to reinforce its au-RAY-le-uh (so it sinks in)?
There’s also [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or maybe [name_f]Aura[/name_f]? But I think [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] is very pretty any way. I agree I like it the way you intend it best.

@eldiazoni these were all in the UK. I’d say the AU part as rhyming with OR or the beginning of AWEsome
