My husband and I are TTC our first child, and while we know it’s early, we have NO idea what we are going to use for names! [name]Every[/name] time I come up with something I think I like, I get given a hundred reasons why it wouldn’t work. We’re so frustrated that my husband made a joke that we should just name our kids after our college teams, but I don’t think I’d like a baby named [name]Cougar[/name] or [name]Sun[/name] Devil…
Anyway, I found this site and you guys seem super-helpful, so I was wondering if you could suggest some names. We have ideas of how we’d like a name to “feel,” if you know what I mean, but I don’t know to search for names based on a “feeling”
For a boy we’d like something fun and distinctive. We don’t like many popular names (no -ayden names), and though we like traditional names (e.g. [name]Richard[/name], [name]Henry[/name]) we like them more as middle names, not first names. We don’t want our kid to have to give a last initial along with his/her first name. I like some surname-esque names, but my husband doesn’t like obvious ones ([name]Carter[/name], [name]Parker[/name], [name]Porter[/name], etc.). When I asked my husband what he wants, he says (and I quote, lol) “I want a name that you could see a star quarterback having! An athletic, tough kind of name.” while I’m not so specific, I would like something that’s not very serious or heavy, but also not ridiculous, you know?
For a girl, we at least have two that we can sort of agree on. My husband LOVES [name]Thessaly[/name], as one of his coworkers named his daughter that recently. I kind of like it, but I’m not crazy about it. I suggested [name]Saskia[/name], which he sort of likes, but not loves. So I guess that’s sort of indicative of our tastes, although I don’t know how to describe it really.
Sorry for writing a novel! We’re just really stuck. If you guys could offer ANY suggestions, I’d be super thankful. Hopefully this hypothetical baby will be real very soon!
