[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are trying to narrow down our list to two girls’ names. We have one child named [name_f]Julia[/name_f] already. Here are some ideas-please choose your two favorite. We are partial to names that highlight our icelandic/danish roots but open to other ideas as well. Thanks for your help!
I’m really having a hard time personally selecting 2 because they seem soooo different from [name_f]Julia[/name_f] to me. In that case- I have to choose [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] because they fit [name_f]Julia[/name_f] most to me and sibling names going together is a priority to me personally when giving opinions.
I’m sure you’re not open to middle names as first names- but if so I also love [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f].
I do love [name_f]Augusta[/name_f]-but wasn’t sure what it would be like to grow up having that as a first name!! I think we are tending toward [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_u]Britt[/name_u] (those are the two my husband likes best) but I really like the sound of [name_f]Lilja[/name_f]…We’re stuck
[name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and [name_u]Britt[/name_u] work best with [name_f]Julia[/name_f] in my opinion, though I would be inclined to find something longer for [name_u]Britt[/name_u]. [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] is very pretty, but a bit singsongy with [name_f]Julia[/name_f], which might not matter to you but would make me stray from it personally.
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] – can never get beyond the first syllable.
Brynndis – I actually really like this one. It’s new to me, and I feel like if she feels its too different and one point or another (seems many of us wind up having a qualm with our given name at some point) she can go by [name_f]Brynn[/name_f], which is also lovely.
I really like both [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] =) …also like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
Would you ever consider [name_f]Linnea[/name_f]? Swedish- a bit more easy for [name_u]North[/name_u] Americans (if you do in fact live in N [name_u]America[/name_u]) to pronounce, and very similar.
A lot of these names are way different than [name_f]Julia[/name_f] (which I personally love). I think [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] (not Brynndis), [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_u]Britt[/name_u], and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] look the best next to [name_f]Julia[/name_f].
The suggestion from ethiopiabound about [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] (lyn-ay-uh) is honestly PERFECT. Not only is [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] a Norwegian name, its easily pronounceable, looks good with [name_f]Julia[/name_f], has a flower meaning (like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilja[/name_f], which sounds too similar to [name_f]Julia[/name_f]), and has cute nn possibilities like [name_f]Linn[/name_f], [name_f]Linnie[/name_f], or [name_f]Nea[/name_f] (nay-uh).
Yay glad I nailed it with [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] and hopefully you’ll add it to your list! I had an adorable little girl when I used to teach preschool named [name_f]Linnea[/name_f].
Only warning with [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] is people like to think its [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]-ee-uh at first (like the word linear). You just have to train them out of it and I find it’s pretty easy for them to pronounce from that moment on.
Funnily enough I was about to comment how much I like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_u]Britt[/name_u]… I especially like them [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] as a middle name. [name_u]Britt[/name_u] [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] or [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Lilja[/name_f].
[name_f]Lilja[/name_f] sounds similar to [name_f]Julia[/name_f] so probably not great as a FN.
With the classic name of [name_f]Julia[/name_f], I like [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] for her future sibling. While I can appreciate your desire to honour your heritage, I’m just not feeling the other names. They’re just too similar ([name_f]Lilja[/name_f]), too different (Brynndis) or too harsh ([name_u]Britt[/name_u]) with a sister named [name_f]Julia[/name_f].
