My husband and I have finally reached, more or less, a definitive top 10 list for both boys and girls. (We’ll be TTC in the coming year.) All of these names are approved by both of us. I’d like to bring our list down to a top five that we can go from when we meet our child. Please note: our last name starts with K and is one syllable and we’re not too concerned with matching names. Thanks in advance for your help!
Here are the names that are decided, and non-negotiable:
I love [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (in that order) the most, but all your girl names are lovely. For boys, my favorite is probably [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]/[name_m]Charles[/name_m], but [name_m]Tom[/name_m]/[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]Connor[/name_m] are great too. Similar to [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] – maybe [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], [name_m]Declan[/name_m] or [name_u]Noah[/name_u]? Good luck!
Please choose one more out of these (suggestions for names similar to Nolan are welcome):
Charlie (Charles)
Connor
Nolan
Sam (Samuel)
Tommy/Tom (Thomas)
Wyatt
For [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], and [name_f]Bryony[/name_f], I would go with [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], or [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f] feel so nicknamey (to me) though I do think [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f] would be sweet as well. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] would probably be my number one choice of the three, just because it is sweet and familiar, but a little more soft and whimsical than the other names, provided you get that feeling from a brand new baby - basically, it’s different, but still fits in nicely with the other choices.
I gotta be honest, when it comes to the boys, the only name I do not really like is [name_m]Connor[/name_m], but that isn’t even a strong dislike, it just isn’t my cup o’ tea. I love [name_m]Charles[/name_m] with the nickname [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] (just don’t like nicknames alone) so that would be my choice, but really I don’t think you can go wrong. [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] are slightly more buttoned-up, but also come with charming nicknames, which makes them stand apart ever-so-slightly from the other non-negotiable options, as [name_f]Violet[/name_f] does with the girls. Also, [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] used to be my #1 boys but I let a friend use it!
I don’t like the double ‘k’ sound that comes with [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and your last name when one is spelt with “c” and the other “k”, but that’s just me.
I think [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] could be added to your top 5.
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m] or [name_u]Noel[/name_u] would be my pick to add.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] is my favorite, then [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. [name_u]Sam[/name_u] ([name_m]Samuel[/name_m]) is by far my favorite! I’ve only met two guys named [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and one female [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], so it’s more uncommon to me. It’s also a handsome name, imo.
By the way, I don’t know if you’ve thought of this, but since you have K as your last name, you might want to avoid O middle names if you go with a C name for a first. You’d end up with COK as the initials. Some people don’t care about initials, but I just wanted to warn you incase you hadn’t noticed
I love your non-negotiable girl names! We seem to have a similar taste. I’d add [name_f]Violet[/name_f] to the list. As for boys, I’d add either [name_m]Connor[/name_m] or [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. I don’t personally like [name_m]Tom[/name_m] or [name_m]Tommy[/name_m], but I love the name [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a beautiful name, strong and feminine at the same time. But I personally know 3 Violets born this year so if you are worried about it becoming a common name then you may want to reconsider. [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] I also love for being soft and strong, but for me is a bit reminiscent of older folk. However I have never known a child called [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] so that may be a factor. Certainly more unique.
For boys, I love [name_m]Charles[/name_m]/[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. A unique and strong name for a little boy and for a man. [name_m]Connor[/name_m] would be my second pick.
