I really like [name]Brody[/name]. Sounds nice with [name]Liam[/name], like you stated. Are [name]Brody[/name] [name]Aaron[/name], [name]Brodie[/name] [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Brodie[/name] [name]Keaton[/name] some combos you like?
Sorry, I should have mentioned… he already has a middle name. His middle is [name]Gray[/name], which is a family name honoring my late mother - it was her maiden name. I forget to mention that because “flow” really doesn’t matter to me, so I never factor that in.
Well, in that case, I still prefer [name]Brodie[/name]/[name]Brody[/name]. (: I think [name]Gray[/name] sounds great with it. But that’s just what I like, the only thing that matters is what you and you husband like.
Ok a lot of people have voted for [name]Charlie[/name] already, and a couple for [name]Rafferty[/name] too. I appreciate that very much. [name]Just[/name] wondering, can you guys give me some feedback on the names? What are your thoughts on the unisex-ness of [name]Charlie[/name]? What about [name]Rafferty[/name]? [name]Do[/name] you think it’s too weird? I like the idea of calling him [name]Raffi[/name] or Raf but we spent a couple of hours referring to him as that a few days ago, and while I was out at the store, my husband texted me and said “[name]Raffi[/name] is awake” and my first thought was that he was talking about a pet monkey. Seriously. That’s the impression I got from the name when I wasn’t thinking really hard about it. Any additional thoughts? The [name]Charlie[/name] issue really killed us. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your thoughts, Lovejaybayy! Which spelling do you prefer? For some reason, I like the look of [name]Brodie[/name], but my husband likes [name]Brody[/name].
Personally, [name]Brodie[/name] looks somewhat girly to me, but I still like it the best. [name]Brody[/name] looks misspelled and [name]Gray[/name] already has that ‘y’ at the end. But if you don’t mind that when you see them together, I don’t think it’s a big deal.
I love [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Archer[/name] from your choices, although [name]Oliver[/name] fits so well with [name]Liam[/name]. [name]Ollie[/name] and [name]Liam[/name] are adorable together! [name]Oliver[/name] is so sophisticated but still playful, cool, and handsome.
[name]Oliver[/name] (nn: [name]Ollie[/name]) - I’m not a huge fan of [name]Oliver[/name], either, and the only [name]Olly[/name] I know is actually an [name]Olivia[/name], but it isn’t bad and sounds nice with [name]Liam[/name]
[name]Archer[/name] (nn: [name]Archie[/name], [name]Ace[/name]) - Not a massive fan
[name]Charlie[/name] (nn: [name]Huck[/name]) - I [name]LOVE[/name] this. [name]Love[/name] [name]Love[/name] [name]Love[/name]. In my mind, [name]Charlie[/name] is all boy. I know there are a few girls named [name]Charlie[/name] out there, but I think your little one would be safe from being the boy [name]Charlie[/name], especially if he’s known as [name]Huck[/name], which I also [name]LOVE[/name].
[name]Bodhi[/name] (nn: [name]Bo[/name]) - If this is the one you and your DH both like, I say you should go with it. I wouldn’t necessarily use it ([name]Charlie[/name]'s my fave), but if you love it, I think you should use it
[name]Nolan[/name] - nice, respectable, will age well and goes well with [name]Liam[/name], but not a favorite - I agree with what you said
[name]Rafferty[/name] (nn: [name]Raffi[/name]) - I don’t think this is too out there at all. I like it. If you think of monkeys, though, maybe you should pass
[name]Brodie[/name]/[name]Brody[/name] (nn: [name]Bo[/name]) - I’m not a big fan, to be honest. I always think of [name]Brody[/name] Jenner, and for some reason that’s not a good thing in my head
[name]Milo[/name] (nn: [name]Miles[/name]) - I like it, though I think I like the NN better than the actual name.
[name]Keaton[/name] (nn: [name]Keats[/name]) - Again, I like [name]Keats[/name] far better than [name]Keaton[/name]. Have you considered just [name]Keats[/name]? [name]Keats[/name] [name]Gray[/name] Lastname?
[name]Beckett[/name] (nn: [name]Beck[/name]) - I like this one. I don’t think I’d ever use it, but it’s a name crush for me right now.
[name]Duncan[/name] (nn: [name]Dune[/name]) - Nice, but I like most of the rest of these names much better
[name]Aaron[/name] - I’ve never been a fan, but I think it’s because my bff in elementary school was [name]Erin[/name], so I always associated it with a girl
[name]Indiana[/name] (nn: [name]Indy[/name]) - My six-year-old has a girl in her class named [name]Indiana[/name], nn [name]Indy[/name]. I think this is much more likely to be a unisex name than [name]Charlie[/name] is.
Thank you for all of that, sis! That’s exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to get. We considered both [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Keats[/name] alone, but our last name starts with S, so they sort of run together … Milesnyder, Keatsnyder, know what I mean?
My husband was the one that mentioned that [name]Miles[/name] could be a nickname for [name]Milo[/name], actually, because I am not as big a fan of [name]Milo[/name] as he is.
Thanks especially for the feedback about [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Bodhi[/name]!
Does anyone think that [name]Archer[/name] should be a no-go with our last name? I never even really thought about it until people started mentioning it in and saying they shouldn’t be used together, in another forum I used to be on.
I have heard of a little girl named [name]Charlie[/name], but I think it’s still so far out there that there’s no way people would assume it’s a girl’s name at first. It’s the sort of girls name you have to explain constantly and fight for since it’s so classically male.
I wouldn’t worry about the occasional use of it as a female name. I’ve known [name]Henri[/name]'s, [name]Billie[/name]'s, and [name]Bobbie[/name]'s that are female but the names don’t feel any less masculine to me for the couple of exceptions.
I would have voted for [name]Archer[/name]- [name]Archie[/name] is adorable- but I don’t think it sounds good with your last name. My vote then was for [name]Keaton[/name]; it’s a great name and seems uncommon to me because I don’t know any. [name]Rafferty[/name] is good too.
[name]Charlie[/name] seems far too popular for my taste. But that’s me, you perhaps wouldn’t mind meeting many people who share your son’s name. I tend to forget common names way more easily so would remember your son sooner if he was [name]Rafferty[/name] or [name]Keaton[/name] rather than [name]Charlie[/name].
I figured since you were really set on these names that I might throw some others out there that go with [name]Liam[/name]…
[name]Keegan[/name], [name]Keenan[/name], [name]Ronan[/name], [name]Lorcan[/name], [name]Lonan[/name], [name]Rhys[/name], [name]Finnian[/name](nn finn), [name]Finnegan[/name](nn finn), [name]Colton[/name], [name]Landon[/name], [name]Logan[/name], [name]Bryson[/name], [name]Cullen[/name], [name]Craig[/name], [name]Gavin[/name], [name]Malcolm[/name], [name]Barron[/name], [name]Colby[/name], [name]Colin[/name], [name]Darren[/name], [name]Kiernan[/name], [name]Rylan[/name], [name]Shane[/name], [name]Flynn[/name], and [name]Ryan[/name].
I know some of these don’t necessarily have a nn but I’m confused because [name]Liam[/name] is a name without a nickname.
I voted for [name]Nolan[/name] but I also like [name]Oliver[/name].
But now I’m thinking that [name]Charlie[/name] with the nn of [name]Huck[/name] isn’t so bad. I think I’m a little hesitant on it because I don’t know how much I like it with [name]Liam[/name].
Best of luck!
[name]Brody[/name]'s personally my favorite–I really love it!–but since it wasn’t an option in the poll [name]Beckett[/name] got my vote (which would be my second choice. I really love [name]Liam[/name] and [name]Brody[/name] together, and just [name]Brody[/name] on its own.
[name]Rafferty[/name]!! It’s definitely starting to get trendy in [name]England[/name], I’m hearing it among the yummy mummies in Shoreditch and Islington…
Amazing feedback, thanks so much, everyone. You all are helping me fall in love with [name]Charlie[/name] again, and may be swaying me over to [name]Rafferty[/name]'s side too. It is all also helping me quite a bit in thinking about the others.
I love the name [name]Bodhi[/name] so much that I feel like if we named him [name]Brody[/name], it would be settling and for no real reason, so I think it might be off the list. I’ll end up wanting to call him [name]Bodhi[/name], but feeling like I can’t because that isn’t his name and I’ll just be thinking ‘why didn’t we just name him [name]Bodhi[/name]?’ all the time. Does that make sense?
dannikelli: Good point. [name]Liam[/name] was on our short list, but it definitely wasn’t my favorite and I never even really liked it very much, to be honest. I was never sure why, but I think I know now and I think it’s because of the lack of nickname. So thanks for bringing that up. I think I finally have my answer. I was far less analytical about names when deciding on a name for him. I trusted my husband’s fatherly instincts and his knowing as soon as he saw him. I am now glad I did. He is so perfectly a [name]Liam[/name]. I call him by his full name ([name]Liam[/name] [name]John[/name]) more often than not, I started calling him that in the hospital right after birth, it just felt right for me and it has stuck. That’s sort of the opposite of a nickname, but I sort of consider it that just the same.
I voted for [name]Charlie[/name]. It sounds wonderful with your last name. I’m not sure how you got the nn [name]Huck[/name], but I like it! Sounds great with brother [name]Liam[/name] too.
