A few weeks ago, we had posted a thread to get your opinion on [name_f]Rose[/name_f] vs [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. You all were incredibly helpful, however the poll came back at 51% vs 49%! At least we can be confident that they’re both solid names We plan on using both if we have two daughters.
Anyways, we are hoping that finding the perfect combo for either name will help us fall in love with one or the other! So we are looking for middle names for both [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f].
We are [name_m]French[/name_m] Canadian, so the middle would need to be pronounceable in [name_m]French[/name_m]. Our last name is two syllables, [name_m]French[/name_m], and a type of fruit tree. We prefer if the middle doesn’t have the same amount of syllables as the first name. We don’t mind unusual or quirky names for the middle spot!
I love both [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] so it would be difficult to choose a favourite! ([name_m]Even[/name_m] though only ones in my signature)
I do love the look of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] but since you can’t use those names they’re obviously out.
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] is beautiful btw!
Wow, thank you for all the great ideas! My husband and I like :
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] (he prefers [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] to [name_f]Ophelie[/name_f])
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
DH has also just announced to me that he likes the MN [name_u]Raven[/name_u]?? I told him it doesn’t match at all plus not pronounceable in [name_m]French[/name_m]. But perhaps we could find something more nature related?
Also, the MN doesn’t need to actually be [name_m]French[/name_m], just as long as our [name_m]French[/name_m] family members are able to pronounce it.
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Meriel[/name_f] (have never heard of it, but adore it)
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Violette[/name_f] (DH will need convincing ;))
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Neve[/name_f] (are you pronouncing [name_u]Nev[/name_u] or Neev? DH loves [name_f]Niamh[/name_f])
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
What about [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] or [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]? I love the prior suggestions of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] (or [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Arielle[/name_f]) too!
Since they have classic [name_m]French[/name_m] first and last names, we would like something more whimsical in the middle (if that makes sense). DH has vetoed [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] because he only hears “Marg” now.
You could always do [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Whimsy[/name_f]! A [name_u]Berry[/name_u] made a big splash picking that a few moths ago as a middle.
It’s too bad your husband doesn’t like [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]. [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is beautiful though. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f] sounds like one name to me, Roselena (if you’re pronouncing [name_f]Elena[/name_f] like [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] and not ellen-uh). Maybe try the spelling [name_f]Alaina[/name_f]?
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f] - might not go well with [name_f]Elise[/name_f] but [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] sounds pretty!
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] - I know it’s popular, but it goes with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f].
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f] - might not work with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] because they’re both botanical, but [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] is beautiful
[name_f]Ravenne[/name_f]/[name_f]Ravenna[/name_f] - alternatives to [name_u]Raven[/name_u].
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Romane[/name_f] - too similar to [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Romane[/name_f] is sweet.
[name_u]Julianne[/name_u] - if [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] is out, what about [name_u]Julianne[/name_u]?
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]/[name_f]Celestia[/name_f]
[name_f]Giselle[/name_f]
[name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] - a bit out there, but would make a great middle.
Overall, my favourites are [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f].
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] Merewen (not sure how this would fare in [name_f]France[/name_f] . . . but it’s gorgeous!)
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] Merewen
I also thought you might like Ismerie, [name_f]Melisent[/name_f], [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], and [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f], but they don’t work as well with the two -se ending names.
Pronounciation of [name_f]Neve[/name_f] - not sure if you’re still considering this, but the Nameberry page says it can be a variation of [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] (and so NEEV), or another name meaning “snow” that can be pronounced NEHV or neh-VAY.
