Please help: Winter vs. a beautiful family name

I’ve finally narrowed down my name selection to two choices. Both names have significant meaning to my family.

Can you guys offer feedback and vote on my baby name list here:

***Please note, I’m did not want to list the full names here for privacy reasons. The name that starts with “E” is actually my mother’s name. And since it’s so uncommon, I don’t feel comfortable typing it out here. It’s very special to me because my mother was also named after her grandmother, so it would be a family tradition if I pass it to my daughter. I feel “E” is a beautiful name, and my daughter’s nn would be Ever.

I also love the name winter because many of the special events/moments in my marriage have happened in the winter. We got engaged in the Winter…married the next winter…had our first child in the winter. I could go on! Pretty much all of our special moments happen in the winter. This baby was even conceived in the winter lol. I’m also very crunchy, and I think Winter is such a cute name for an earthy girl! We would nickname her Winnie. I have even caught myself calling this baby Winter. It just fits! However, it seems to be becoming popular. I have a family member who just announced they will name their baby Winter as well. Our kids will be basically born a few months apart.

I like that my mom’s name is unique but still feels current due to the nn Ever. And she’ll have a strong name as an adult. I also like the family tradition of passing this name on. However, I kind of feel like this baby is Winter. But I also wonder if it will transition well into adulthood, and if it’s a bad idea with my last name I just don’t want to make a mistake. Can you guys tell me what you think.

** Also, can you please refer to my mom’s name as “E” instead of typing out her full name? Thanks!******

What about “E” [name_u]Winter[/name_u] (with [name_u]Winter[/name_u] as the middle name)? I think that sounds so lovely!

Thanks! I thought about that, but my last name makes it weird. Her initials would be EWW.

Is your surname Wh!te like on the name list? Because if so, I think [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is too matchy with it. [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is a sweet nickname but [name_u]Winter[/name_u] Wh!te is too much for me. To answer your other question, I only know one girl named [name_u]Winter[/name_u] who is my age so I’m not sure if it’s becoming popular. I think E is a very pretty name, and I love the nickname [name_u]Ever[/name_u]. I think E [name_u]Winter[/name_u] would be a gorgeous combo, but I see where you’re coming from with the initials issue.

If you love the meaning of [name_u]Winter[/name_u] but don’t like the initials, maybe a winter-related name?

Thanks! Yes, that’s my surname.

I agree with pp that [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is really not ideal with your surname. [name_m]Add[/name_m] that to the fact that your other contender is beautiful, has so much meaning and connection, and is unique but on-trend and I think E is the way to go.

Perhaps you could use [name_f]Snow[/name_f] as middle name or [name_f]Neve[/name_f] or [name_f]Nieve[/name_f] as a nickname for the first name.

E [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is my favourite!

I like E, and I agree that [name_u]Winter[/name_u] White is too on-the-nose cutesy. It sounds like a fairy name, in more of a Tinkerbell way than a [name_f]Euphemie[/name_f].
What about winter-related names like:
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
[name_f]Demetria[/name_f] (or [name_f]Demi[/name_f])
[name_f]Lumi[/name_f]
[name_f]Niamh[/name_f]
[name_f]Noelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Snow[/name_f]

I agree with previous posters, [name_u]Winter[/name_u] with your last name is a bit too much… “E” [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is lovely though!

I’d have to disagree with a couple of the previous posters. I actually think Winter White works beautifully, and I’m not one usually for alliteration in names. I probably wouldn’t have even made the connection of white=snow + winter if I hadn’t tried to think what people thought was cutesy about it.

That being said, I can see why you are in a quandary. The E name is beautiful, and obviously means a lot to you. Yet, the child feels like a ‘Winter’ to you. Also, you are right, Winter is on the rise as a name. It is not trendy now, but it could be soon.

Maybe it would help to look at it this way: a middle name is still their name. This child wouldn’t just be E White with Winter as an afterthought if in the middle. I think of my middle name as just as much a part of my identity as my first name, because it was treated as such. Some people get throw away middle names and so it doesn’t mean much. It happens. But this middle has so much meaning to you that I can see you calling her Winter at times affectionately. Just because it isn’t her first name doesn’t mean you can’t use it, and having it as a middle gives her the identity you already associate with her.

Also, for the initials thing, yes it is a bit unfortunate, but you are going to get EW anyways if you just use the E name for a first name. Having the extra W in there doesn’t make it any worse and most people initial with just first and last letter. There are also many famous people with EW as initials. Emma Watson, just to name one  She seems to wear it fine.

I don’t think [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is too common at all.

I think [name_u]Winter[/name_u] E Wh!te is really gorgeous! I like alliterative names, and you could always still use [name_u]Ever[/name_u] as a nickname.

Thanks so much everyone!! I love all of the feedback. Another thing to mention is that my older child and my husband both have the initials WEW. So [name_u]Winter[/name_u] would fit right in with that.

I really like E J@ne Wh!te! I think that [name_u]Winter[/name_u] is a little too much with that last name, and the classic J@ne with “E” flows beautifully and is balanced and elegant. Plus, I love that it’s a family name.

I, for one, do not think there’s anything wrong with W!nter E. Wh!te. It sounds and looks pretty. Also, maybe it’s just me but it’s not like the name is Wh!te W!nter. When you reverse it (W!nter Wh!te), it sounds totally different to me. I would use it.

I would use E, 100%. I think [name_u]Winter[/name_u] White is a bit much.

Thanks everyone! We hope to decide very soon! I think I’m going to play around with calling her [name_u]Ever[/name_u] to see if it feels natural. So far, I’ve called her [name_u]Winter[/name_u] naturally without even thinking about it. So this baby might just be meant to be [name_u]Winter[/name_u]. I’ll play around with [name_u]Ever[/name_u] for a few days though, and see if it feels like that’s who she is.
