I have a question about the name “[name_u]Ray[/name_u]” that I cannot seem to find an answer to and would greatly appreciate some help!
I like short names and I would love to call my son [name_u]Ray[/name_u].
However, everyone keeps telling me that it’s a shortened form of other names (such as [name_m]Raymond[/name_m]) and that it’s not a name on it’s own. And the problem is - I really, really don’t like the name [name_m]Raymond[/name_m] and wouldn’t want to make the first name any longer.
Is that really the case?
Would it be completely weird to have “[name_u]Ray[/name_u]” as a first name?
Is there anyone at all with the first name [name_u]Ray[/name_u] and not [name_m]Raymond[/name_m], or are all Rays actually a shortened form of something else?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think if my son was called [name_u]Ray[/name_u], would everyone automatically assume that he’s [name_m]Raymond[/name_m]?
[name_u]Ray[/name_u] is a great name! I have a name that is commonly confused as a shortened name ([name_u]Lennie[/name_u]) and it’s never bothered me.
I love the idea of a short, simple name for a boy and [name_u]Ray[/name_u] isn’t too common either.
Thanks very much, guys!
That’s really helping to put my mind at ease!
We will most likely add a middle name too to give him some options, but I was worried that [name_u]Ray[/name_u] might feel uncomfortable with his unusually short first name if no one else has had the same name before and wasn’t [name_m]Raymond[/name_m].
I love [name_u]Ray[/name_u]! My son’s middle name is [name_u]Ray[/name_u] after his grandfather [name_m]Raymond[/name_m] and everyone loves it. I think [name_u]Ray[/name_u] is a fabulous first name and complete on its own. I love the imagery of a [name_u]Ray[/name_u] of sunshine:-)
O[name_u]Ray[/name_u] is a great name and just fine on its own. It doesn’t have the issue that some NN names have of being too cutesy. I would think it sounds good on a person of all ages and is lovely, sensible and well known without being common
